I'm just glad people are finally seeing the light with regards to Howie and Schwartz

i think yesterday was the straw that broke many backs.  we understand "okay, maybe schwartz doesn't have the talent on his side of the ball".  some will even say, "okay, maybe we gave up on talent like fort too early" and schwartz and crew may have flubbed releasing him..

but then you compound that with putting the talent you do not have (gerry) on a guy (claypool) that was drumming your defense all day ,on a key third down situation, while the game was still somewhat within reach?  something has to change.

you also look at a barren cupboard of young talent due to recent drafts and the gm that's supposedly the mastermind behind it.  we've missed out on so many guys, taken after our picks...  we're lucky to have found a mailata, fulgham (not even drafted by us), or ward...  but that does not excuse the misses (JJAW) and questionable picks (hurts).  and there's always been a suspicion of the history of bad drafting by that gm.

Unfortunately for us the SB win got him a get out of jail free card.

I'm worried he really does have one. We squeaked into the playoffs last year and so Lurie may think this season is just a bump in the road

It was Patrick Chung on Dez Bryant all over again...

Not sure.   When the Chip Kelly train went off the rails Lurie acted.  This is arguably as bad or worse.

I've been so impressed with Herbert. Looking forward to watching him.

I am not a GM, obviously. I'm not an expert, but, here's what I would do:

Get what I can for Ertz and Cox

Pray that Fulgham progresses, because Fulgham and Reagor could start on the outside next season IF they both continue to do well.

Get rid of Peters

Get rid of Clement

Get rid of Jackson

Get rid of Alshon

Do whatever is needed to get one of Chase or Waddle (Chase/Waddle, Reagor, Fulgham, Hightower, Watkins and Ward will hopefully suffice).

Get rid of Gerry

Get rid of Epps

Keep Mills on a cheap deal for safety/depth only. If he wants too much, get rid of him.

Draft as many LBs, corners and OL as humanly possible. Think McCleod, Wallace, Parks and Mills will suffice if everything else was set.

Fire Jim Schwartz

Can't fix it all in one off season, but I sure as crap guarantee you they would be better than this year's team.

2017 super bowl team had the least amount of money allocated to corner and one of the highest amount allocated to safety.

The thinking was that corners demand more money on the open market than safeties and safeties do more than corners.

Mills was a liability that whole season and darby was oft hurt. P Rob a bigger nickel than what they have now played out of his head on league minimum.

The LBs while not bank busters were making more than the league minimum and were better than what they have now with bradgam hicks then kendricks who played well.

This year they kind of went opposite as they spent more money on corner taking slays contract and signing NRC whose been sub par all the while they gave the lowest amount of money allocated to LB in the league and other than mcleod not a lot tied up in safety.

I'm not sure why they got away from what helped them win a super bowl but doling out more money to CB and a lot less to safety and LB hasn't seemed to make a positive difference.

Having said that slay minus the steelers game has played well though his lack of turnovers is disappointing.

2020 Mychal Kendricks and Nigel Bradham cannot be worse than Nate Gerry and Duke Riley. I don't care how much you pissed either player off; say sorry or something, sheesh. Hell, Alex Singleton can't be worse than Nate Gerry or Duke Riley. Blows my freaking mind these fringe roster guys are starting because they "line guys up correctly" and "bring high energy."

Watching both Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas start for other teams shows that it's not a talent issue, it's a coaching issue. I'm not even saying those two players are good (they're not), but they're better than Mills. Just like LJ Fort (starting for Baltimore) was better than Gerry. Or Sendejo (Starting for Cleveland) was better than Epps/Ford. Hell, how long did it take Avery to get snaps? Chandon Sullivan & De'Vante Bausby are both getting real snaps in Green Bay & Denver.

That's coaching.

I don’t agree (big surprise). You aren’t going to change your scheme for Rasul Douglas, who is a liability in man coverage. Jones was just shot here. He ruined his chances, not the coaches. He needed a fresh start where he wasn’t proven to be weak minded and soft bodied.

Scheme fit matters. Look at all the corners we had here. None of them were similar or had similar strengths. We had zero identity at the position. We could never look at a CB in the draft and say "That’s an Eagle corner.” I blame the guy drafting and trading for the corners for that.

Yup. KGH was let go and he's playing better than both riley and gerry as well

It’s amazing we ever won a game with him as DC.

Saints Defenses is one of the few teams worse than we are in the red zone.

Or, I don't know, maybe the guy you spent a third round pick on this past draft. Any time I bring up Taylor it's "He's not ready" and "He's too green". Who gives a rip? Throw him out there and let the guy play just based off of his athleticism. So what he screws up some plays? It's nothing that Gerry hasn't been doing all season and Taylor at least has upside.

It's a shame we can't face Nick Mullens every week.

because they switched to a man style defense.  if you noticed, slay is almost always on the other team's number 1 guy.  before we screamed as to why schwartz did not have our "best" corner follow the best receiver.  well, you have to have a good corner that's able to play one-on-one to do that.  and those types of corners aren't cheap.  they HOPED nrc could be that other guy to play opposite slay.  and i don't want to have nnamdi ptsd and ask slay to play a style that does not suit him.

before when we had our corners just stick to one side of the field, offenses would just move their number one receiver to the side of our weaker corner and torch us all day.  but, investing in a man corner and putting that money there has a trickle-down effect of maybe the safeties maybe not being as good.  same as heavily investing in defensive line and maybe the linebackers maybe not being up to par (though investing on the lines is NEVER a bad thing -- wars are won in the trenches)...  but that does not excuse what we're seeing out there at linebacker for the birds.

Picking 2 project players on day 2 is definitely not looking good so far, that's for sure. But yeah, I'd throw Taylor out there in subpackages and either man cover or blitz. At least I know that if Taylor loses, it's because he hasn't had the reps; Gerry sucks because he just sucks.

To me a good coach can use players to their strengths.  They can change or adjust their scheme week to week depending on the opponent.

It's why I dont like Schwartz.  He has his way and nothing else matters.  You either fit into what he does or you're no good.

agree on all but 2 , i would restructure cox and ad a year or 2 , dump or trade mills.

But those corners don’t even fit with each other. Some are zone, some are man. Some can’t tackle. Some can’t run. It wasn’t as simple as "play X” with Douglas and Darby and "play Y” with Mills and Darby.

Darby couldn’t figure out cover 3. Mills couldn’t figure out double moves and could never run. Douglas can’t play man in single high. Ideally he presses, but when he’s beat it’s over. He needs more help over the top. We wanted to be single high to take away the run game and easy completions over the middle. Jones was mentally and physically soft.

The corners never fit.

This may age poorly depending on how the game goes, but teams seem to be snuffing out the Taysom Hill stuff this season with New Orleans. It's incredible to me that this front office wanted to waste second rounder on that.

Hurts can actually quarterback a bit though.

Not that it makes him worth a second round pick...

I’m not so sure the front office viewed that pick strictly that way. Still think there’s a bigger reason they haven’t been upfront about. fans And media made that point. Which is completely idiotic from the beginning to waste a second round pick on a gadget quarterback with a handful plays if that’s all they had in mind with him.
