Anyone watching MNF:

If Wentz makes the exact same throw that Herbert made to Keenan Allen for the TD (which he can do with ease), "Insert Eagles WR here" allows the DB to run the route for him and intercepts the pass.  Over the top Wentz haters blame the entire throw on him trying to be superman.

Wasn’t the big knock on Herbert was that he couldn’t throw downfield?

If anyone felt that way, they weren't watching Oregon games.

Brees is one of the greatest QB's of all time and the Eagles pretty much couldn't beat him if the future of humanity depended on it, but I'm about ready to call it on his career.  All he can do is dump it underneath to Kamara.

The Saints wouldn't scare me if I were a fan of a contender.  As an Eagles fan, every Sunday scares me.  But with what that team has become, I'm not going to pencil that in as the typical lock loss that it usually is against them.

But those corners don’t even fit with each other. Some are zone, some are man. Some can’t tackle. Some can’t run. It wasn’t as simple as "play X” with Douglas and Darby and "play Y” with Mills and Darby.

Darby couldn’t figure out cover 3. Mills couldn’t figure out double moves and could never run. Douglas can’t play man in single high. Ideally he presses, but when he’s beat it’s over. He needs more help over the top. We wanted to be single high to take away the run game and easy completions over the middle. Jones was mentally and physically soft.

The corners never fit.

Why do we continue to get corners that don't fit the scheme? I know some of them are from the Kelley regime , but doesn't Schwartz have some input on the guys he needs for his scheme? We stuck with corners that don't fit the scheme but can't adjust to play to their strengths. Either Schwartz doesn't know what kind of CB he needs or Howie isn't working with him to get the talent he needs. Regardless it isn't working and both need to go.

I think the last CB the Eagles had that made the pro bowl was Asante. I really liked the Slay signing and think he is doing well. I don't fault him for the penalties he picked up as they were ricky tacky. Other than Slay, we really have not put legit resources into that position for some time.

because they switched to a man style defense.  if you noticed, slay is almost always on the other team's number 1 guy.  before we screamed as to why schwartz did not have our "best" corner follow the best receiver.  well, you have to have a good corner that's able to play one-on-one to do that.  and those types of corners aren't cheap.  they HOPED nrc could be that other guy to play opposite slay.  and i don't want to have nnamdi ptsd and ask slay to play a style that does not suit him.

before when we had our corners just stick to one side of the field, offenses would just move their number one receiver to the side of our weaker corner and torch us all day.  but, investing in a man corner and putting that money there has a trickle-down effect of maybe the safeties maybe not being as good.  same as heavily investing in defensive line and maybe the linebackers maybe not being up to par (though investing on the lines is NEVER a bad thing -- wars are won in the trenches)...  but that does not excuse what we're seeing out there at linebacker for the birds.

I'd rather they spend the money elsewhere. The rules are so skewed to favor offense that even corners that are elite and paid accordingly get torched weekly.

Or in eagles case the offense rarely tests slay because it's so easy to pick on the other back 6.

Finally getting a good corner is a waste when the rest of the back 7 are useless.

Maddox not an outside starting corner. Gerry worst cover LB in football. Riley a glorified special teamer who has made zero plays this year. Edwards showing why he was undrafted, mills useless as a corner and a safety. Mcleod probably the second best guy in back 7 after slay is JAG. They have zero play makers in their back 7 because they have all their money tied up in 3 DTs that aren't on the field at the same time, one aging DE and one corner.

It's just a poorly constructed defensive roster playing in a predictable defense.

Jim Johnson believed in building in the trenches as well but he co structured his defense differently he believed you take care of the edges corners and DEs first then build inside out.

2017 eagles believed in money spent on safety and D line, both defenses didn't put much stock in LB.

Now can one honestly say whats Schwartz defensive philosophy construction is??? 3 DTs and one good corner doesn't seem like it's a winning formula.☹️

Most defenses believe in being strong up the middle DT LB Safety and that worked really well for some really good defenses like the ravens and bucs.

Eagles up the middle have COX, Gerry💩 and Mcleod. That's not good enough.

If one wanted to build on the edges like JJ it would be graham barnett slay and maddox. Again thats not going to get it done.

Schwartz or eagles need an identity on defense 8 d line man is a good thought but with the passing rules as they are it's too easy for offenses to just nullify the pass rush when the back 7 can't cover even a little.

The giants pass rush in their super bowl teams was ferocious they also had some semblance of coverage in the back 7 at least more than 1 corner.

The broncos super bowls with peyton manning they had a feirce pass rush and they also had elite corners and good cover backers.

The eagles have 3 good DTs and 1 good corner and a bunch of guys.

If that was the plan it's a poor one.

So who are some options at DC? Any interest in Dan Quinn?

Yes.  Especially if he can start tomorrow.

I’m not sure I understand the Quinn love other than he isn’t Schwartz. The Falcons have been a disaster defensively going on three years.

But people for some reason want their HC and GM in Philly?

I don't have any interest in anyone for any coaching position over 50 with a name, ego to match, who has had success in the past followed by more recent failure.

Those types exclusively try to win with what worked for them years ago.

Wentz....5 Seasons....second  season 11-2 gets a ring and gets Foles home field, and a hungry D helps first two games big time , then in SB FOLES  plays like an MVP and makes up for D too.

Rodgers....12 seasons 1 SB ring

Brees 19 seasons 1 SB ring

Lets give the dude some time too and stop the bashing.....I think he needs to see some smiles from you people or something, maybe he reads your nastyness lol

Herbert is the truth could see in senior bowl

agree on all but 2 , i would restructure cox and ad a year or 2 , dump or trade mills.

They have a ton of money tied up in 3 DTs in Cox Jackson and Hargrave, sad part is those 3 guys are rarely on the field at the same time.

So while Hargrave is sitting on the sideline getting a breather making top money the QB is throwing all over the field against minimum paid trash at corner safety and LB.

One would think money towards guys that play majority of snaps together Instead of the backups would be a better allocation of resources.

I'm not sure what howie does. Cox and jackson both have hefty contracts that will be tough to get out of or trade. I can't imagine that jackson with his cap number has a ton of trade value, not sure if cox will restructure he has in the past but at some point it'll catch up and come due. Personally I thought cox was more effective in a 34 moving around from RE to LE and DT. In a 43 Schwartz too often just uses him to occupy doubles to free up other guys If Schwartz is retained I'd trade cox I don't feel Schwartz has utilized Cox to his fullest if Schwartz is gone then I'd look for a DC that has some schemes that can take advantage of some of the things cox can do.

Then again maybe cox has just declined to the point where he's just a guy that's going to eat up doubles in the middle like a NT😒

He’s just the only option I could think of that’s available as a DC. I don’t stay up to date with other teams position/assistant coaches so I’m legit asking who are some people that are out there?

Brees looks like Wentz.

Do they matter if you don't win it all.....just a bigger heart break....actually I had too many with Mcnabb,Vick, etc...

OK

Brees - first 5 years:  0-1

Brees can't make half of the throws that Wentz made yesterday at this stage of his career.

Your 2nd point is fair, but I'd like to actually see him play in a playoff game first.  Even now, after his dreadful start (with a major improvement in the last 2 games), his season ending injuries should still be his main criticism.

I think his point is that you know you're going to be in the thick of it every year with a QB like Rodgers or Brees. The consistency is obviously there. It's not with Wentz right now.

No the falcons D has been doodoo

but Dimitrov interests me. But Houston should hand him a blank check

So you telling me the way the D played last season in the playoffs we don't win that game with Wentz ?

Or yesterday

Also the two picks weren't even that bad, he is playing better. One was when it was already over and other might have been on Ertz

And won 0 playoff games with the team that drafted him...because teams don't stick with QB's who win 0 playoff games for more than 5 years.

I really couldn’t say, to be honest. I’d be interested in some names too.

A doctor explains Daks injury. OUCH  This is nasty
