I don't care if Toohil wasn't dressing for games.  If he showed even the smallest bit of potential to be a pass rusher in this league someone will snatch him up.  If the Eagles lose him to bring Curry back that's another bad roster decision in a line of bad moves.

Yep.  They've demonstrated a complete disregard for roster spots all year long.  To lose someone with even a touch of potential is ridiculous.

Seeing that they had Claypool moved to specifically to the spot should have been a tip off to call TO. I won’t kill Schwartz for having him on the field, but once they spotted the mismatch and we’re set to attack it...

Is Schwartz even allowed to call TO?  Not that he hasn't, but I can't remember him ever doing it.

Also wasn't there some report that we ran out of DB's because of Slay's injury, and that's why Gerry was out there?  Doesn't excuse having him 1 on 1 vs. Claypool, but would excuse him being out there at all.

Find me one where the offense doesn't have a RB on the field.

Find me a play where a LB isn’t on the field.

I asked the question before and never got a response. Was he out there because he’s the only player with a radio?

And is it really that uncommon to have one LB on the field even with 5 wide?

Three players can have the radio, just one on at a time. I have no idea who else would have it and they would have had to switch helmets. I'm guessing McLeod is probably one of them.

James replaced Slay. We still had Wallace on the sideline. I'll take Wallace over Gerry in that particular situation, as should any rational defensive coordinator.

These are common occurrences in every game. I get that you hate Schwartz, but there are plenty of instances where teams leave their LB to run with WRs down the seam.

The problem is that when a LB covers one of our WRs, it's not the glaring mismatch that Gerry-Claypool was.

So I think the shock factor is elevating the vitriol here.  :smoke:

Yup losing toohill for curry would be a bad decision. Even if curry goes on to finish with 5 sacks for a 5 win team😒 hopefully no one claims him

Schwartz said that’s Doug’s call, but he’s allowed to call TOs if there are 10 men on the field.

I can remember Sean Lee running down the seam with our WRs in cover 2 and it not being open. Of course, he was also awesome when healthy.

Los Angeles had previously used seven defensive backs on 15 or more snaps twice this season. They employed it 18 times in a Week 7 win at Cleveland and on 15 plays in the regular-season finale at Denver.

I thought the whole point of Nathan Gerry was to get a great coverage guy at a LB spot.  Why else convert a college safety to linebacker?

2020 continues to make a sick joke of all the best laid plans lol.

I remember that. They had one healthy LB on the roster. I said at the time I thought it might have been the wave of the future. It wasn’t.

You really can’t not have any linebackers out there. Like other people have said, they could run the ball with a WR or TE over and over and easily pick up at least 5 yards a pop. Big Ben could also easily take off and pick up a ton of yards.

It’s one of the safety’s responsibility IMO to recognize that Gerry is lined up on Claypool and move over to help him.

Something to keep in mind, how many times has any of those DBs played middle linebacker in a cover two?

It's not the wave of the future until teams stop utilizing a RB. But situationally, you need to be ready to deploy that extra DB if an offense trots out 5 WRs on you. And as someone said before, it's defensible when you have a somewhat competent LB, but clearly that's not the case here, so it's thoroughly indefensible. And yet here we are on a Tuesday...

There's nothing we can do.  Because of the ill-advised massive contract we're stuck with him until after 2021 at the earliest.

We'll probably be really bad until then so hopefully we can either build a team strong enough to carry him, or find someone else we can win with.

Well I disagree with your opinion.

He has played at an elite level, and then did it again last year with the team falling apart around him.

Let's get Reagor back, Seumalo back, Ertz' head back in the game, and give the rookies and new O-Line a little time to gel.

The offense did enough to win last week, and Carson played well.  Travis Fulgham had a huge game, a guy who Aaron Rodgers could not make look good enough to stay in Green Bay.

Good, let them give it a whirl. If they try to handoff to a WR in that situation, I'll gladly take my chances with the way we were winning at the point of attack on Sunday.

Like, it's not even close to being debatable. Every dialed up run was essentially a gift to us in comparison.

It's Gerrys responsibility to crash into Claypool to give McLeod time to cover his assignment and then move over to help.

I said he should have called a TO. But for the record, I believe Ebron was on the field and flexed to the top of the screen.

It wasn’t five WRs.

We were stopping the run because we had Linebackers back there. The 4 DL would not be able to match up alone against 5 OL plus possibly a TE and stop them.

In fact, the Steelers only had four healthy WRs left with Johnson out of the game.

Nate Gerry is terrible. It's really as simple as that.

Fine, whatever. Still far better to have a S there in place of a LB.
