I'm 100% convinced that if Wentz doesn't make that Rookie mistake and turn the ball over to end the first half, we're sitting here 1-0. For as bad as our O Line was, Haskins was worse.

Can't change the past. Watch the tape. Don't dwell on it and get right back in the thick of things with a win over the Rams this week.

Life goes on.

I agree that without the short field I don't think Washington was going to put up 27 pts.  My concern is the lack of adjustment by the offense in the 2nd half.  I agree they have time to fix these problems but Pederson's playcalling was a problem.  It was the same issue as the beginning of last season.  They needed to make quicker reads.  Why there wasn't a single slant route thrown to Reagor is a big question for me. There were no first down passes to the RB out of the backfield aside from a screen.  These are easy passes that allow the team to control the game.

I love Zach Ertz. He's played through broken ribs for us. He's going in the Eagles ring of honor and I hope he puts up enough numbers to go into the HOF.

At the same time, he's been complaining about his contract for months. He's saying that he's underpaid (he's not). You can't publicly complain about your contract, then cost your team. Had he not talked about it, today's conversation is very different.

I think half of the issue is that before the game there were reports of Ertz and Howie being far apart over the contract and Ertz isn't happy and how that could effect his mindset coming in to the game.  There were multiple beat writers talking about this prior to kickoff.  Then he drops a routine catch on 4th down with the game on the line....not a good look.

Also, the mindset of has been been a great player in the past is why the Eagles are facing cap hell next year.  Ertz's backup is ready to take over.  Ertz wants top TE money.  It's a less than ideal situation for Ertz if you ask me and he needs to be on top of his game every single snap this year...especially with the game on the line.

To be a successful GM in the NFL you have to look ahead 1-3 years to forecast what you can do with your cap.  We all thought Howie was some genius but look what we are facing and the decisions made in the past and a lot are questioning that.

Ertz has been a great Eagle but that doesn't make him immune from criticism when he makes a bad play.

Trading a TE for a high 2nd or 1st when you have a younger cheaper, option that is just as good behind him isn't a stupid idea.  Paying him more for nostalgia reasons and not building for the future is a stupid idea.  This team is not good.  Zach Ertz will be wasted here.  Only viable argument against trading him for a high pick is the fact that Howie will be making that pick.  Ertz will be 30 in less than 2 months.  Our Cap issues are going to be a major problem for this team.  His squabbling with 2 year left on his contract isn't going to help things.

I don't think people are really understanding what we are looking at after this season.  It isn't pretty.  Your words seems to be falling on deaf ears.  There are a few of us on here that are able to look at the big picture.  It sucks because I hate to be a doom and gloom kind of guy.  I'm an eternal optimist but man when you look at how this team is built and where the Eagles truly have young talent to build around it's really bad.

In the NFL, good organizations pay a player for what they can or will do.  Not for what they have done.  Howie and Lurie have taken the stance to "Award" players.  That is why this team has slid as far as it has and will continue to slide.  Decisions like that.  I was not a huge Andy Reid fan, still don't like him.  But he and Banner had a mindset of, "you move a guy a year too early instead of a year too late".

See my post about 3 slots up.  Said that exact thing.  Successful teams are looking ahead 1-3 years.  The Eagles used to be great at that.  I think what happened is Howie wanted to do whatever he could to win back-to-back SB.  They mortgaged the future to go back for 53.  He struck gold with guys like Blount, Jeffrey, Robinson, Long, Ajayi and Curry.  That formula won the SB but it isn't sustainable to stay successful.  Add in below average to poor drafting and here we are.

Hey want something to laugh about on a Monday? And I'm a huge Raiders fan.

What the HELL is GruDawg doing giving Victory speeches in the locker room like he just won a pennant after week one?

WTF? 2020 keeps getting weirder lol

The Eagles blew a 17 point lead to last year's 2nd worst team...and it was somehow not the worst loss of the weekend.

What's the word on DeSean? How come he kept going in and out grabbing his shoulder?  You could tell the Eagles want to use their receivers more and that they fell back into the rut of looking for the TE's . That stuff will get better. Only question is whether it will be soon enough, they could get buried quick with probably the most brutal first 6 in the league.

He tweeted last night that he wasn't hurt and didn't get hurt.  He certainly acted like he did/was, though, and was definitely favoring that shoulder.

Its all doom and gloom here, so I thought I'd bring some good news.  I was looking at Kelce's cap numbers yesterday

So if he retires after this season, he will be a 10 million dead cap hit for a 1.7 million dollar loss.  But if he plays out his contract and then retires, he is only a $7.2 million dollar dead cap hit.

Cap Genius

Offense looks stale again.  Even after all the added weapons, there was no creativity.  We have 2 receivers that should be good run-after-the-catch types and we don't call any quick slants.  No jet sweeps.  We deactivate Hurts, because we're not creative enough to use him and then we see the Saints first play of the game is a creative way to use Taysom Hill.  No designed roll-outs when it was obvious that dropping straight back was not working.  We have deep threats that should open the middle if the field up for our TEs and RBs to eat all day, but our OL wouldn't allow enough time for that to develop.

Hated the trade the second they made it.  What a waste of draft capital and cap space.

I think a lot of people who fail to see the "big picture" are still holding out hope that this team can rekindle the 2017 magic.  Lurie and Howie seemed to be included in that.  This can be done rather quickly, if they take the organizational stance to do it.  But until then, they are just kicking the can down the street.

The most alarming and concerning for the future...IMO.  Is Wentz.  He has not progressed in certain areas and I am not going to just chalk it up to the bad O-line play or bad WR play anymore.  This deep into his career a star QB should be able to elevate his teammates.  He still holds onto the ball too long, he still spazzes out and takes unnecessary hits.  And he'll still continue to get hurt.  He still sails the ball and he still has deep ball accuracy concerns.  I honestly think, he is what he is.

Serious Question:  Does anyone feel like Carson can calm the huddle or the sideline down as ish starts to go sideways?  Does he seem like the calming confident leader?  Or does he seem like the guy who needs to be calmed down? That is why I all him Ginger Spazzbot.  Love the guy.  Love the person he is and the competitor he is.  But I am not so sure he's the guy we thought he was.

I hate to say it but that calm in the huddle presence is what Jalen Hurts excels at (not saying I want him in the game, just a fact).  I love Carson too, he has all the tools to be a tp QB, all-time Philly great but has to take that next step this year.  He only had 7 INT's last year so 2 in the first game is alarming.  Maybe we can say OK no preseason, the rust needs to come off but those were bad decision throws....the 2nd being the exact same thing.  The fumbles are very concerning.

Right now, Carson Wentz is like a bad Brett Favre.  He has that talent but he's sloppy, making bad decisions, was horribly inaccurate after his hot start and clearly you could see him losing his cool.

Incorrect.

If he retires, he has to pay back the bonus money on a prorated basis. He would have played 2/3 years of his deal, so 1/3 of his bonus money which is roughly 5M. So if Kelce retires at the end of the season, an outcome that none of us want, then he'd we'd actually create cap space.

Saints are just far above us on the field, play calling, coaching, talent evaluation and drafting... It’s depressing

Well, I don't interlock the two.  But fair enough

Yes in a perfect world you trade ertz for a 1st and DG steps up to TE1

The problem is the Eagles will use that pick to select Arthega Whiteside 2.0 who is actually Mack Hollins 2.0  SMH

Play 2. No idea what Carson was doing.

Play 3. Can't tell you why Reagor hesitated but I didn't see it that much.

Play 4.  What we don't see is Carson was under massive pass rush and had to scramble, forcing the poor throw.

Zach Ertz to the Jags plus picks for Cam Robinson

Move Peters back to guard. LOL love it if the Jags would do it.

I don't believe that is true.  Can you point me to where this is stated?

My understanding is that a retired player, cap wise, is treated the same as a cut.  HOWEVER, teams have the option to go after bonus money, which is known as "The Barry Sanders Rule".

Edit:  For example, look at Luke Kuechly.  He retired and the team designated it as a post June 1st retirement, so he will have the following cap hits

Team Year Cap Charge Cash Paid
Panthers 2020 $4,710,000 $0
Panthers 2021 $7,130,000 $0

I don't disagree.  But Kelce crap the bed yesterday in so many ways and not a peep from folks here.  Ertz dropped a pass.  Kelce, with no crowd noise, couldn't see blitzes and help the two to his right to make the right play, got manhandled most of the game, couldn’t get off blocks, couldnt create space, just not a good day.

The point is, it was a bad 35 minutes for most of the team.  Stars, All Pros included. All of them

You would rather Howie waste the pick naturally through the draft?

To be fair, I criticized Kelce in one of the other threads. He played poorly. As did Peters.

Blaming Reagor on this play is not understanding WR play. His "hesitation" is based on looking at the QB to see where he's throwing it. You can't run full speed with your head looking back. Once he sees the ball, he accelerates. On that play, I was also surprised that Carson throw to the middle of the field instead of the sideline given where the safety was. If Carson throws to the sideline, it's 6 IMO. To be fair to Carson though, it seemed like the play-call was a post so expecting a rookie WR to adjust off of it is tough.
