I can’t and won’t defend Hurts in round 2, but other than a center replacement for Kelce, I don’t think it would have made a lot of sense to draft an OL high.

We had just traded up for Dillard in round 1, Seumalo is the guy at LG, Brooks is the guy at RG and Johnson is the guy at RT. Al of them for the foreseeable future — at least at the time FA opened and the draft rolled around.

Eh, Lane is only 2 years younger than Kelce, and Seumalo isn't so great that you can't look for an upgrade there. I wasn't well versed in prospects this year, but you could look at our depth heading into the draft and definitely see it warranted investing resources, even as high as a 2nd rd pick.

At that point eagles were up 17-0 they go into halftime 17-0 getting the ball back they can come back establish the run milk the clock and let there defense which was playing well make wash earn it.

Instead the offense kept giving washington short fields because pederson wanted to be aggressive.

Well that aggressiveness lost the game.

Horrible game plan outside of the first 15 plays.

You’ve forgotten how we won the Super Bowl.

OK.  So a few years ago, Big V had to start for Lane.  He looked awful initially.  Our #6 OL wasn't good and that reflected on the suspect depth at the time.

However, it was just one of the five positions on the OL.  That is something that you can compensate for schematically and still survive. In fact, almost all teams can compensate for one suspect backup, or even starter, on the OL.

We had three backups playing yesterday at the same time.

That is my point about depth.

This isn't a new phenomenon. We have some old guys as starters, it's gonna happen again. While we may not have 3 backups playing at the same time in many games this season, you shouldn't be surprised to see at least 2 of them again in stretches. Even JP, who himself was signed as a stop gap, isn't exactly known for his durability as of late.

The game should have been 17-3 at halftime.  I don't believe Haskins gets the ball into the end zone if Pederson doesn't keep calling timeouts and slow the game down for him.  Let the raw young QB have to manage the clock in hurry-up; they wouldn't have gotten anything more than a FG IMO.  Then with plenty of time to go 45 yards to get in FG range, the Eagles throw 2 bombs 50 yards downfield.

Terrible decision making.

I have no issue with Doug calling pass plays at the end of the first half. It was a chance for a dagger. Even after the pick, we HC two chances for explosive plus at the end of the half. Keep firing.

And a backup replacing a backup at RT.

Ehhhh. Washington has their own timeouts to use if needed. Doug wanted to give our offense another crack at it — and we missed two deep balls that had a chance. The decision was fine.

Agreed.  But Haskins isn't Brady.

I am not sure, but there should be an "opponent's offensive competency" overlay to their aggressiveness model.  That was game where I'd made them go 80 yards as much as possible.

Wentz was really good before that pick. You guys are complaining just to complain.

Neither was Case Keenum. And Washington’s defense wasn’t as good as Minnesota’s.

They should have been passing to the RBs on first down not running them.

Somewhere Andy Reid is reading eagles fans saying this crying tears of joy and feeling the stress of  years of criticism rolling off his shoulders.

He's almost 28, dude. I swear the extreme Wentz apologists make me wanna pull my hair out. This guy is so coddled by many fans and beat writers, and for what? Measurables, press conferences, and three quarters of a superstar season three years ago? He's injury prone, fumble prone, inconsistent, and erratic as a passer. He's made some highlight plays, and I consistently acknowledge that. But come on, man -- at some point, the excuses have to stop.

They’re not excuses, they’re called reasons

what do you want to do, cut him?  Trade him?  Don’t be stupid.

instead of building the team around him we’ve been dicking around and hoping he can single handedly score points

That was a gut punch. Gotta reel that in, Zach.

aside from Kelce, they seriously didn’t even know who was going to start on the OL and which position they’d play as of 2 weeks ago

they also knew that DL was the Skins’ biggest strength—we all knew that

yet they had no plan for getting into a rhythm or trying to throw the Skins defense off balance.  Basically just dust off the 2019 playbook and fire it downfield.

a new coaching staff was able to get their defense to identify our plays and come up with huge turnovers, and they barely had a preseason to do it.  And it was the Eagles that looked like they had a new coaching staff

it was embarrassing

Football is a game decided by personnel matchups.  Anyone forecasting the game could see it was a stacked WASH DL against a thin and beat up Eagles OL; it was even the first narrative that Burkhart gave to open the broadcast on FOX.  Even when the Eagles jumped out 17-0 WASH already had 4 sacks, in the first 17 minutes of the game.  The lead wasn't sustainable when the Eagles were getting crushed in the trenches.

Rivera and Del Rio schooled Pederson in this game.  Their defense ate up every screen the Eagles threw, and were still able to register 8 sacks and force 5 turnovers.  The head coach has to be able to adjust when the defense shuts down what was working in the first 20 minutes.  The offense was anemic in the last 40 minutes.  How many short fields did Pederson give WASH with bad decision making?

Wentz played poorly, no question.  Pederson put him in harm's way with bad game planning, though.  Adjust, move the pocket, shorter throws.

Agreed. At least for the second half.

They did have a pretty big turnover two weeks later. ;)

I give both Wentz and Pederson a free pass for this one game, because I know they're both capable of much better.  I'm a bit more confident in Wentz at this point, though.

It was a very positive thing that the Rams beat DAL -- but only if the Eagles beat the Rams.

Yes, Pederson needed to do better as well.

But Carson put the ball on the ground and took unnecessary sacks.
