Re the failed 2-pt conversion to tie the game, Doug said it was all on his play-calling and shouldered all blame.  Honorable thing to do to protect his players.  From what I saw on TV, it seemed the execution was more the problem.  Wentz fought for the ball from Scott, when the defense closed in.  Perhaps the defense played it well and closed in faster than our guys expected.

i disagree, that  play was never going to work against the steelers alignment, ,but the play got in late, and Wentz had zero time to change the play.

Everyone keeps praising Wentz for playing well for his play with a 3rd string o-line and PS WRs. And rightfully so. However, I can’t get past him looking like crap the first couple games when he had most of his starters.

Wentz is extremely talented and am far from wanting him shipped out of town (like some) but the him keeping it close with scrub players is maybe a little too much praise... need to win ball games. Plain and simple.

The question of the day will be how badly is Sanders injured.

I have to assume that we'll find out at Doug's PC today. His MRI should be done by then.

Couple of thoughts.

- I know stats aren't the only important thing for DT but Javon Hargrave has 3 games this year where he hasn't recorded a single stat (tackle, sack, QB rush/hit, batted pass).  Tell me again that money wouldn't have been better spent on Robby Anderson.

-Vinny Curry played 19 snaps vs Avery's 7.  How do we expect Avery to build off of the SF game if he only plays 7 snaps?  Horrible move bringing Curry back.

-Still not buying the Hightower hype.  3 drops on 19 targets this year.  He's a very very poor man's Torrey Smith with bad hands.  Smith had straight line speed but horrible elusiveness/quickness.  When Hightower does catch the ball he leaves much to the imagination RAC.

-Speaking of RAC, Ertz throws a nice stiff arm but then immediately falls down.  Time to move on.  A 3rd gets it done for me.

-Jalen Hurts has more quickness and speed than I thought.  Would it be silly to give him reps at RB?  I know he wants to play QB but the Eagles lack playmakers and guys who can make people miss.  Hurts can do just that but he's sitting on the bench.

-Josh Sweat is a player.

-Mailata is still playing well.  I don't see Dillard beating him for LT next year.

-Wentz carried this team of bums on his back.  He's still not playing his best and I have no idea if he's a franchise QB but all the credit to him for playing behind that line.

- This quote from BGN is precisely why the Eagles are bad.  Show me another team that relies more on their 5th-7th round picks than their 1st-4th.  This isn't a new revelation either.  It goes back to Jalen Mills and Beau Allen.  Give Howie credit for finding guys that can "contribute" but to rely on them as starters is just horrible when it comes to building a team.  I was going to list all of the 1st-4th rounders who have developed in to nothing but that list is far too long.

"The Eagles are giving a lot of snaps to late round rookies that are hurting the team. While the individual player will take the brunt of the blame, it’s important to say the Eagles are setting up their rookies to fail. Driscoll, Bradley and Hightower are given massive responsibility as late round picks and we’re somehow all shocked when the team struggles.

This is directly related to the lack of impact from early round picks. Jalen Reagor isn’t on the field. Jalen Hurts, while dynamic, is a gimmick and Davion Taylor looks like he is playing a different sport. Meanwhile you have rookie receivers all over the league that are balling out. Almost at a comical rate. Sure, it’s early in the season and even earlier in the careers of these players, but today was a microcosm of how the front office has failed the team and the coaching staff’s piss-poor management has failed the players."

That’s a yikes.

Oh jeez.  Saying that after the Claypool winning TD last week... Doug, each week we hear you say "in retrospect"  the job is to make the right call in the moment.

Just call a play you already used. Surely there were some from the same formation that the Ravens wouldn’t have immediately recognized.

23 now. Dont forget they added 2 more playoff wildcard teams starting this year.

That would make it 19. If it was 23 that would be just 10 teams

Yes!  I remember the genius of the Eagles offens is supposed to be multiple plays from the same formation.

And if we only have four 2 pt conversion plays then we aren't prepared.

Wtf...thats not something that I want to hear...we ran out of plays?! How is that possible? Not getting a single OC this year is really proving to be an issue.

Yeah I appreciate the honesty from Doug but I don't think any other coach in the NFL would admit they ran out of plays. I'd be fine with him giving a generic answer like "We thought we had the right call but it didn't work out" or some BS like that.

Yup. It doesn’t inspire confidence, that’s for sure.

Me too.  Kind of a momentum type killer even if the analytics support it from a pure math focus.

Where was hurts?! Atleast confuse them a bit ti give yourself an advantage at the goalline

Too bad it wasn't his only bad play. If Campbell would have thrown him any farther, he would have been off the field where he belongs.

It's not like they were down there all day. I only counted 12 plays in the red zone, minus the two 2-pt conversions. Strange times indeed.

Look who was on the field. Your playbook shrinks the deeper you go into your reserve tank with players. Sure they have a play book to study but from an execution standpoint you can’t expect them to know everything.

Then try what has worked and they do know.

Even Charles Davis was calling for a play to get Wentz on the move and either throw it or use his legs to get it in.  A wishbone play where the choice was Boston Scott (is his ypc much higher than 2 yards?) or a 2-yard sneak by Wentz when they couldn’t sneak one yard earlier — that was dreadful, especially when 2 earlier pass plays on 2-point conversions worked easily

Defenders were crashing down on both Wentz and the RB. The play had no shot.

Furthermore, Doug had a TO in his pocket if he didn’t like the play call or didn’t have enough time to dial up something. Another act of stupidity from Doug. It’s a growing and concerning trend.

The option had worked decently the whole game. I do have to go back and rewatch. I was sitting at a red light when the play happened. So I didn’t see it in detail.
