I don't give two craps what the Falcons want.  I want to lose the Desean and Alshon contracts.

I agree, but you have to have takers.  I'm looking at who on our roster they would actually have interest in.

Not in my fantasy world.

Im just wondering, if we had money to offer Ertz the highest paid TE contract last year, can there possibly be some way Howie can absorb a Julio, or Amari Cooper, or even OBJ contract? Especially if he were to send out the Alshon or Jackson contract in the trade?

I know theres no way we can imagine it using our cap websites. But somehow I feel like its in the realm of possibility for Howie.

We can still win the division and host a home playoff game.  Imagine shedding Desean and Alshon and acquiring Julio.  Fulgham, Ward and Goedert would be running wild through the secondary with Julio pulling coverage.

Hard to believe that the Bears would trade Robinson sitting at 5-1.

The Bears are in prime position to be serious trade deadline buyers.  How often are they sitting at 5-1 atop the NFC Central?  They need to take every opportunity to get better.  I would be on the phone with them trying to work something out.  DP and Nagy have to be old pals from the AR days.

wtf? how are the 5-1? I think I paid attention to every other teams record except for theirs. I guess I just assumed their record sucked as bad as they do.

Well, their offense does suck.  But, their defense is also really good. Top 10 scoring defense.  Only a +12 net points.

Just looked at the Steelers... they've allowed less than 100 points so far.  Eagles scored more than 25% of those points... with Practice squaders and deep depth on the OL.  Shame our HC can't scheme.

Paper tigers. Beat lousy teams like Lions, Giants, Falcons and Panthers. Only impressive win was Bucs

I talked about this yesterday. In foles 3 starts the bears have scored 23, 20 and 11. And one of the touchdowns they got was a bucs fumble that the bears recovered inside the 15. So they’ve averaged 18 ppg in foles 3 starts. He also has thrown 3 tds and 3 ints. He’s been better than trubisky but outside of the falcons game he hasn’t been great.

Add on the defense has given up 19,19 and 16 over those three games. Bears defense is making it that if foles gets over 20 points they are highly likely to win. Comparatively the eagles offense against the niners, Steelers and ravens have averaged 25 ppg (took away singleton’s td). like wentz and the eagles offense over the last 3 have been a touchdown better than the bears.

Was "nostalgia for 2017" a mistake?  They had put together a winning roster and decided to run with it for a few more seasons.  Makes perfect sense.

The mistakes were within the execution of the plan above.  Didn't draft or develop talent all that well (remember, though, Sidney and Rasul were already aboard by then).  Didn't hit on any FAs.  Didn't successfully replace Reich.  Some unwarranted contract extensions.

How many teams win a SB and immediately start a rebuild?

Trying to stay competitive wasn't a mistake, Jeffries contract was, and so was DeSean. A lot of money spent on two declining players.

2016 draft:  #2 Wentz, #79 Seumalo, #153 Smallwood, #164 Vattai, #196 Countess, #230 Mills, #251 Walker

2017 draft:  #14 Barnett, #43 Jones, #99 Douglas, #118 Hollins, #132 Pumphrey, #166 Gibson, #184 Gerry,

2018 draft: #49 Goedert, #125 Maddox, #130 Sweat, #206 Pryor, #233 Mailata

2019 draft, #22 Dillard, #53 Sanders, #57 JJAW, #138 Miller, #167 Thorson

2020 draft, #21 Reagor, #53 Hurts, #103 Taylor, #127 Wallace, #145 Driscoll, #168 Hightower, #196 Bradley, #200 Watkins, #210 Prince, #233 Toohill

For all the knocks on Howie as a drafter, 2018 and 2020 are looking like "foundation" drafts, one more like these two and the rebuild will be near completed.

Remember the Wentz trade was #13, two players they wanted to dump (Alonzo, ???), #12 in 2017, #77 2016, #100 2017, 2018 #64.. Recouped the 2017 pick with the Bradford trade.

UDFAs added:  Ward (2017), Hebig (2019), Edwards (2019),  Opeta (2020),

SFAs added: Perkins (2018), Singleton CFL (2019), Le Blanc (2019), Ford (2019), Parks (2020), Fulgham (2020)

Howie,

You can spin it any way you like. The fact remains, however, that you need to up your game. Significantly.

It might be a bit premature to declare the 2020 draft as 'foundational'.

Is the release of Williams a sign that they expect Maddox back on Thursday?

Dont forget Reagor too.

Julio, Reagor, Fulgham, Goedert... yeah.

I just need a LB for the defense too.

Cowboys lost their starting backup tackle Knight to knee surgery today. So they'll be down to their 3rd string OT for the Eagles game.

Probably not. They released him off IR. More likely is he's healthy enough but they don't want to give him a roster spot so they cut him and will maybe bring him back to the PS.

There is a good chance Maddox is back for Thursday though.

Knight was pretty bad, can't imagine what is behind him.

Greg Senat, Dallas is his 4th team in 3 years, 6th rd pick of Baltimore in 2018

Alternative is Connor McGovern, 3rd rd pick out of Penn State in 2019, but he's listed at guard.

Eric Smith and William Sweet on the PS.

They've worked Seumalo at center, a lot. He's played every other position on the OL, so he knows their responsibilities. He's worked with Kelce for years. I can't think of anyone who is better prepared. A month or more ago I posted some stuff about Seumalo's stance, how it is much squarer to the LOS than anyone other than the C.. He and Stoutland worked this out. It's a very small step to playing center.

As for depth, next season we are returning Brooks, Seumalo, and Dillard. Lane too, one hopes. That's a lot of talent. Mailata looks like the real deal and Driscoll has promise inside, though not at RT. Herbig shows promise, though at RG rather than LG.

Lots of guys start as fringe NFL players and disappear unnoticed. Others flourish. I have great confidence in Stoutland. We should remember there has been no pre-season and the rash of injuries has almost everyone playing out of position. Jamon Brown, really?  We need a little patience here.

My thought is that there are a lot of "ifs" on the line related to health, returning this season or next, playing a new position.   The past 2 seasons and all of this one have relied on the hope that these older, veteran players stay healthy.   It has proven to be a poor strategy and while Mailata is an amazing story, he is not the norm.  Eagles need to be ready next year with better, younger offensive linemen that aren't all developmental, position changing, they could be good in a year type of guys.

The offensive line is the group that can make the rest of the entire team better.  It is the only group that can do it and the SB year is proof.  That line was so excellent 2 RB at the end of their careers and a FA rookie RB were made to look like stars.  A 2nd year QB an MVP.  A TE becomes an All-Pro.  A back up QB wins the SB.  Since then, the line has disintegrated and so has the team.

Investing in the line is investing in wanting to win.  Continuing to draft projects and hoping. Stoutland can make them serviceable is a bad strategy.  Stoutland with talent is what we want, because that is a SB winning formula.  If, like you said, all our guys come back, remain healthy and play an entire season it is a formidable line.  But it is time to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Maybe he should try scheming so they aren't down by two scores in the 4th qtr.

Jamon Brown is the worst football player I have ever seen
