My thought is that there are a lot of "ifs" on the line related to health, returning this season or next, playing a new position.   The past 2 seasons and all of this one have relied on the hope that these older, veteran players stay healthy.   It has proven to be a poor strategy and while Mailata is an amazing story, he is not the norm.  Eagles need to be ready next year with better, younger offensive linemen that aren't all developmental, position changing, they could be good in a year type of guys.

The offensive line is the group that can make the rest of the entire team better.  It is the only group that can do it and the SB year is proof.  That line was so excellent 2 RB at the end of their careers and a FA rookie RB were made to look like stars.  A 2nd year QB an MVP.  A TE becomes an All-Pro.  A back up QB wins the SB.  Since then, the line has disintegrated and so has the team.

Investing in the line is investing in wanting to win.  Continuing to draft projects and hoping. Stoutland can make them serviceable is a bad strategy.  Stoutland with talent is what we want, because that is a SB winning formula.  If, like you said, all our guys come back, remain healthy and play an entire season it is a formidable line.  But it is time to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Mailata - Seumalo - Kelce - Brooks - Lane, with Dillard, Driscoll, Herbig, Opeta and Prince ain't a bad start. Healthy, that's the best OL in the NFL.

This is a group with the depth to withstand injuries, Seumalo can move to C, Driscoll is probably the future LG, Dillard gives you a LT option.

And there's Stoutland, look at how the Eagles OL has performed v Dallas, both beset by injuries, Eagles put up 25 points a game on offense against two top defenses, Dallas, at home, 10 points against Arizona without Jones.

Nothing wrong with adding more talent to this group, but it's not a situation where you have to reach.

Thinking about Jamon Brown makes me ponder what would be the most fun if I could have 15 minutes of shame in the NFL:

— try to tackle Derrick Henry

— try to cover Tyreek Hill on a go route

— try to block Aaron Donald

— try to spy Russell Wilson

The good news is I think I’d have a decent stat line if Nate Gerry were covering me

Yikes.

Gotta be Wilson. The others will put you in the hospital

I wonder if Brandon Brooks comes back to play this year.  That last video of him training (I know I'm about a week or 2 late) is just incredible.  One thing about Brooks at RG is that IF he can stay healthy he could play another 5-7 years.  Problem is can you have any confidence in him staying healthy.

Covering Hill

He'd go and all i could do is watch

One of the LBs I hope Howie will call about is Blake Cashman. Good athlete. In year 2. Not currently starting for the jets but seemed very solid as a rookie. Joe Douglas owes us.

Dont forget Reagor too.

Julio, Reagor, Fulgham, Goedert... yeah.

I just need a LB for the defense too.

Mark Simoneau might be available.

The 2nd 5 aren't that great.  And I'm not talking  about reaching. Reaching and hoping is what we have been doing. I'm suggesting they draft guys who can play right away, not guys like the 2nd 5 you mentioned.

My point is give Stoutland real talent and see what he produces rather than late round picks and college FA.

Worse for Atlanta over the next two years.

For me it always made the most sense to trade Ertz after this season; obviously that was before his subpar performance to start this season.  I thought for sure the Eagles could recoup a 2nd round pick before next draft.  Right now I’m not sure the Eagles could get a 3rd round pick in exchange.

If Howie could get an offer of a 3rd before the trade deadline he should pull the trigger.  The timeframe for Goedert to return also plays a big role.

Julio just signed a monster contract extension a year ago. It makes no sense for them to trade him IMO.

It’s sad that we keep kicking the can with players so much that we still get little cap relief even with trades.

Any shot Goedert plays Thursday?

think the f.o. have any interest in john ross?  at the combine he ran a 4.2..  one year he had 7 redzone touchdown catches..  of course he's a deep threat.  but things have not worked out for him in cincy.  my concern is like the video below... drops.  but he may just need a change of scenery, like agholor.  i think he has this year left on his contract.  so he may not cost anything much at all.  prob. could be had for a 7th as he's asking for a trade and cincy prob. doesn't have any leverage.

here's a flemlo vid on him:

flemlo's a cincy fan..  and puts out some good vids of players around the league which requires research.  so, i don't think his take would be that of someone just knee-jerking an opinion on a player.  especially one on his fav. team.  we always need help at wr and this could be a cheap "kick the tire" sorta deal, that if it doesn't work out...  it's not like we would be married to him.  if he works out for us, great.  we could prob. extend him on the cheap too.

Just spit balling... realistically for a trade to make sense involving Julio, I think it would take a 1 and 4 or maybe two 2’s.

Not necessarily saying the Eagles should do it, but I think that’s pretty realistic.

Injury prone, drops passes, mentally weak?

No thanks. However, he’s exactly the kind of player Howie would be willing to give up a 3rd for.

he could just need a change of scenery..  and as i pointed out, has one year left on his contract.  couple that with a trade demand, and i think he could be had for cheap.  and if he flat out sucks he could be considered cheap rental that could me moved on from easily.  if he works out and you gave up a late round pick for him, it could be a steal.  the tools are there, just his time in cincy was fubarred from the get-go (with his head coach calling him out).  i wouldn't trade an early pick for him, but if cincy lets him go for a 7th..  why not?  he's 24.  he's not an aging vet with a multi-year contract that would eat cap.

7th rounders COULD be valuable, but i don't know how many mailata's you'd hit on every draft.  i think john ross could prove more upside than a 7th (if cincy accepts that).  if they would ask for more..  mooooove on. lol!

Feeling optimistic about DeSean for the fourth week in a row

I really do not want to do a Julio Jones trade simply because he’s had issues staying healthy and he’s 32. If I’m gonna make a trade for a wide receiver then I’m calling the Lions. There’s been no contract extension talk and I was listening to Sirius and they had a lions reporter on there saying golladay is not happy. His contracts up at the end of the year and he’s just gonna get franchise tag next year. I’m curious if the Lions would be willing to part with him.
