He’s not "so good,” but maybe he’s not "so bad?”

Hmm... so that means Driscoll likely kicks inside to RG and Johnson guts it out at RT like a trooper.   Johnson on 1 leg is better than Brown on 2.

Well why was he released?

Which was my original thought.... I mean, he can't be worse, right?   And the Eagles have a mini-bye week coming up with the Thursday game.  Might as well give it a shot.

On April 3, 2019, Spain signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.[5] During the 2019 season, Spain would start in all 16 games for the Bills, playing every offensive snap, committing only four penalties and not allowing a single sack. The Bills finished with a 10-6 record, qualifying for the playoffs where he started for the Bills' wild card loss to the Houston Texans.

On March 17, 2020, Spain signed a three-year, $15 million contract extension with the Bills.

Can't play though because of covid rules.......................right?

Just watched the first half on the all-22. No matter how bad you thought Jamon Brown was, he was worse. He did have one nice cut block.Other than that, nothing. He doesn't square up on the defender ; he turns and when he does he loses all his leverage,  Terrible feet. And Driscoll has no chance at RT right now. He simply isn't strong enough. His technique is OK but he still ends up in the QB's lap. I see a LOT of squats in his future.

What did you think of the play of Herbig and Mailata?

People always talk about players needing to go back to school if they are the consensus #1 pick because of Team X having that choice... but here's the thing about that, the following year, a team just as bad will be the one with the top pick, assuming that you stay healthy.

So, whether its the Jets this year, the Texans next year (with BOB out, it makes them perhaps more attractive), or the Browns, or the Bengals, or the Lions... there's a high probability that a team with a historically bad organization will be the one sitting at the top of the heap.  So, you either suck it up, believing you are the one that can make the difference and turn it around, you suck it up knowing that in 6 years you can go wherever the money and system fits you best while cashing in and getting security against injury, or roll the dice that an even bigger dumpster fire isn't waiting at the end of your college rainbow... but the college rainbow isn't a rainbow at all, but a super long highway filled with deadly potholes and potential pitfalls.  Your game falls off, your school goes into the dumper and instead of sitting at the top of the rankings you are mid-tier or worse... and then there's the ever present danger of injury while training/playing.  How many players now are not just skipping Bowl games but like Bosa, skipping half a season or more to make sure they are healthy for the draft process.   Waiting a year to cash in is a dangerous game.   And for every success story there is about it, there's that many and many more where it backfired.   Sometimes, a bird in the hand is way better than two in the bush.

I saw a couple games of the Browns this year. I think they're getting closer. Not sure what they need now.

Texans likely just need a new HC. I don't think Watson is going anywhere.

I haven't looked at Bengals or Lions so I don't know about them

I know everyone is going to freak out about him not being on PUP but I wonder if the emergence of Fulgham is letting Doug just hold off on Alshon for the time being. Why have him play and take away snaps from Fulgy?

#Bills announce they have released veteran G Quinton Spain. Started all 16 games last season for the team.

must be more to it. Only 29 and has started last few years.

Seems a bit early to give up on the guy then, if they just signed him to a 3 year contract.   Doesn't make sense.

If he was just with the Bills, I figured he'd already be tested and cleared.

Correct. Even if he was getting tested on Bills he would have to go through a waiting period like Toth and Brown had to do when they claimed him

I'm talking about teams with historically bad organizations.  Houston is the outlier there, BOB just made it a bad situation.

But, historically, the Browns (post-restart in 1999), Lions, Bengals, Cardinals, Jets.. these are the dregs of the league.  Fewer teams to fall down on their luck are: Jags, Dolphins, Washington...  but, the point is, when you are the #1 overall pick, you are going to go to a bad team, the question is whether or not its a bad organization.

That makes no sense.  So, if a trade happens, then a team would have to wait for that too?

Agree on Driscoll.  I figure a year in the program is what both he and Wanogho need.  Juriga too but I am not convinced Juriga has the ability to leap to the NFL.  As I mentioned, you can see the impact on Herbig from a year and it added muscle to Dillard too.  Then again, you have players like Pryor that just won’t make that effort.  Driscoll definitely strikes me as the type of player who will make the effort to improve.

Makes me wonder how bad Opeta looks to result in Brown playing instead of him.  Thing is, Opeta does look more like a LG than a RG to me.

The lions are in a ton of trouble when Matt Stafford leaves or they trade him. That team has a whole bunch of issues as well. I  Wouldn’t be surprised if the Lions move on from Matt Stafford this off-season. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they franchise golladay and look to deal him this offseason.
