Eagles 2nd Round Pick - ELI STOWERS, TE, Vanderbilt

Ewwwwwww.

Gross.

Was really hoping for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren here, but I guess we needed a TE successor to Goedert. Personally I felt they could have waited on TE, but looks like we'll have to wait until to next pick to see if we get a S or OL.

Felt the same way. I would have waited on TE, definitely better value available at this pick, EMN particularly. Or Jacas, Dunker and several others. Oh well. Hopefully Stowers is good, but I would have drafted someone else and hoped for Stowers or just taken Roush at 68.

Just what the team needs. Another TE who cant block and is essentially a WR.

I don’t love it, but he essentially is our big bodied wide receiver.

I am very happy with the receiving group as a whole.

He's getting some comparisons to Fannin who was great on a really bad Cleveland team.

They tried getting a good TE prospect last year and people just kept picking them right before they got to draft.

I thought we needed TEs that block? Isn't that the whole essential part of the new scheme?

The guy is called like a second best value pick of day 2, so we should probably be happy?

We need legitimate threats across the field. This guys catch radius is insane and his ability to go vertical is well documented. Another way to attack defenses and another problem they'll have to deal with. They're adding complexity and weapons to our attack.

I thought we brought Johnny Mundt in to play blocking TE? We need someone to take over from Goedert, who apparently gave up blocking when he accepted his one year contract.

Ditto.

What does that really mean though? How do you define value now? Value is TBD.

Yeah, feels like they drafted two WRs

Well I hope that’s not how they view him … we already have one of those (Johnny Wilson).

let's hear it for Howie. FYI, Stowers was considered the best TE in College Football as the John Mackey Award Winner. Kind of reminds me of Zach Ertz. Also, the Eagles brought in a blocking TE if memory serves.

He won best TE in college football award. Nuff said. They took a WR who won best WR in college award and now TE. Howie is getting the best of the best at reasonable draft slots.

Is that award like the pro bowl?

Ignore me.

I actually kinda like the player/pick.

He was the consensus number 2 Tight End in the draft and supposed to go somewhere in round 2. They had a need at TE and took him in round 2. I'm not sure what the negativity is all about. Yeah, he isn't a good blocker but neither are half of the top tight ends in the league now. Furthermore he has been playing the position for a whopping three years and seems like a great kid with a high work ethic so he can get better at it. Either way, look at how Harold Fannin Jr. (a guy a lot of people on this board wanted the Eagles to take last year) was used in Cleveland this past season and how successful he was. We just drafted Harold Fannin Jr. on steroids because his athletic ability and upside is on a different level than Fannins.

Philly Special pt. 2

I've warmed up to this pick. Wasn't who I necessarily expected, but not a reach and addresses an area of need still.

My disappointment has shifted to the Eagles reaching for Markel Bell in the 3rd round with the other OL and DBs available at that juncture, would have been a perfect opportunity to trade down and recoup a 4th round pick.

Not sure if we'll be able to land a worthwhile S prospect with our late 5th round pick. Barring the team bringing in a veteran via FA/trade, we're rolling with a very thin safety room. One injury to either starter and we're in trouble.

0075,

IMO, a 5rd pick at Safety is not making an NFL roster. Camp Body or he hits the PS.

Does everyone forget ertz and Dallas were considered meh blockers? That part of the game can be developed with technique and adding some size to his frame.

Also, we signed like 3 Y TEs…
