Jalen Hurts out for rest of season with blood clots

Me too, but the clowns are thirsty for stats so give them what they want. This generation doesn’t know what it’s like to lose or how quickly you can go from winning championships to waiting 30 plus years for the next one. Perhaps they need to learn the hard way.

Meh. I feel jalen fans and herbert fans are kinda built from a similar cloth. Both are living off the 2022 version of their qb expecting them to return to that form one day. Jalen has the hardware being the plus one to his offense (literally nothing wrong with that btw) where herbert has failed being the center piece. I feel every time we try to make jalen the centerpiece, he looks pedestrian at best

Just to play devils advocate here, but, no one made or forced Jalen to play in that game. There were 3 medical teams involved (Eagles, Jalen’s, and the London one). They all most likely came to the conclusion that Jalen could play, if he wanted to. As the movement of him playing was better than him sitting stationary for hours.

If anything, it was the flying back that probably was the worst decision. Should have stayed across the pond and gotten as much treatment as possible for the issue.

Same with the sleeping matter. 8-10 hours of non-movement would have exacerbated the clot issue. So they kept him awake for as long as possible and probably kept him moving as well…..stretching, stationary bike, walking in the hotel, etc….

I’m just assuming all of this. I have no proof or evidence. Just me playing an MB doctor. 😊😊

That's all true, but the team has to be smart and prevent the player from further harm, no matter what they want to do. It's similar to the RGIII situation.

And I agree, the flying back and forth is definitely the "wtf?" moment for me. Like, they already knew he had a clot before the game, so why are they allowing him to immediately fly back? They just mishandled this every step of the way.

Given the timeline we’ve been given I don’t think Jalen was diagnosed with a blood clot until he got to the UK? And at that point the medical advice was he was okay to play and movement was key. So I can’t kill the team for that.

If this lack of sleep thing is true (seems Jalen and his team have debunked that?) then he shouldn’t have played purely from a not being at 100% and mentally being fried.

It does seem though like this is a really sad situation for Jalen but I’m not sure one I can kill the team for? Not based on what we’ve been told.

Yeah the sleep thing. The guy on WIP was going on about that. Unless Jalen was standing or with somebody watching him, he slept. Maybe not lying down flat for 8 hours but that may have been the idea. One reason for the recommendation to get up and move around on long flights is to prevent blood clots.

It also seems improbable to my layman self that a cleat injury to a calf would cause multiple blood clots in the lungs. There's something else going on there. Injury from a prior tackle? Dunno.

This has the potential to really snow ball. Howie could be in trouble with the league. This could end up with big changes happening

I did read somewhere, can't remember where, that the NFLPA is taking an interest. Maybe a silver lining to this dark cloud is that there'll be some sort of protocol developed for players with blood clots regardless of initial severity.

I think it’s about the clot moving though isn’t it? The clot started in his leg from the cleat injury and moved up.

Here's a take from The Guardian (UK) on Hurts playing with blood clots, and also looks at the wider context of injured players in the NFL playing through. Also mentions an altercation between Howie Roseman and Lane Johnson over an injury in Wembley back in 2018. We should just bomb the UK and call it a night. Might as well bomb Canada too ... just because.

Please bomb the UK. You'd probably achieve improvements that we can't afford to pay for on our own right now

Pellisero gives a good breakdown of what went down. All in all, it looks like too many were rushing to condemn the Eagles organization without knowing all the facts.

With all their domestic issues currently it's only a matter of time before it all burns down.

NFL reportedly will not punish Eagles for their handling of Jalen Hurts' blood clot

https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/breaking-news/article/nfl-reportedly-will-not-punish-eagles-for-their-handling-of-jalen-hurts-blood-clot-171624134.html

The Philadelphia Eagles received plenty of criticism after allowing quarterback Jalen Hurts to play in Week 5 despite knowing he was dealing with a blood clot in his calf. But after a review of the situation, the NFL reportedly does not feel that criticism was warranted.

The league reportedly found that the Eagles handled the situation "appropriately," per The Athletic. Because of that, the team will not face punishment for their approach with Hurts, who is now expected to miss the rest of the 2026 season after multiple blood clots were discovered in his lungs.

You're on the same timeline, don't worry. We're all Fed, whether it's the climate, AI, or chronic bad leadership, we've all had it.

back to nfl, idk how in the hell the league is still approving this week's game being played in Paris.

Because it would be expensive to cancel. If in doubt, follow the money

The difference is the diagnoses before and after the Jags game. When the blood clot in his calf was first discovered, it was diagnosed as a superficial blood clot. With this diagnosis activity is recommended as treatment, to promote circulation. (Although I still question whether strenuous activity like playing football was acceptable. They could have held him out of that game with calf injury.) After the game when doctors discovered the clot had moved, he was diagnosed deep vein thrombosis which is more serious. Especially after clots were found near his lungs. He started treatment with blood thinners and cannot play football.

Not surprising, though I suspect some will be very suspicious about it on social media.

Sure enough we have posts like this from people thinking Godell made the Eagles play Hurts to satisfy their international audience:

Maybe if it was mahomes or jackson but hurts? Lmfao that comedy

I read that he was at a London hospital the night before the game. So there were non-team doctors checking this out. Have there been any reports that they (the London doctors), said he was 'good to go'? Or something to that effect?

I read that Guardian article. I don't blame Lane for not feeling a real strong allegiance to the organization.

I probably should have added a disclaimer that I was being facetious, making fun of how unbelievable mad some people are about the whole Jalen thing. I don't want to get arrested for a "mean tweet" if I ever leave this country. The UK and Canada can fix their own problems (not that they're trying).

Can you at least accept me in before you do? I’m okay with wiping out the UK but give me a new home first…

of course not - the NFL shares a huge part of the blame by imposing these International games on the players in the first place.
