DaEagles4Life
Thought this is worthy of its own topic and a pretty big step. They will use the taxes generated from the sale of weed to help pay for treatment. In what would be a first in the U.S., possession of small amounts of heroin, cocaine, LSD and other hard drugs could be decriminalized in Oregon under a ballot measure that voters are deciding on in Tuesday’s election. Measure 110 is one of the most watched initiatives in Oregon because it would drastically change how the state’s justice system treats people caught with amounts for their personal use. Instead of being arrested, going to trial and facing possible jail time, the users would have the option of paying $100 fines or attending new, free addiction recovery cent ers. https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-portugal-arrests-elections-oregon-4feaaeb5e60f3a853810ae1853fb22ea
Toastrel
I have always failed to see why it matters if somebody is; angry, drunk, stoned, hateful, insane, stupid or any other condition, when they commit a crime. X crime = Y punishment. Can there be mitigating circumstance? Of course, but the fact that you CHOSE to get HIGH before 'not meaning to kill that person' doesn't matter IMHO. You killed them. You pay the price. It should not be illegal to be high, or drunk, or a member of the KKK. There are crimes, there are laws - enforce them when the person commits a crime.

You didn't But the law won’t mean that "magic” mushrooms have the same legal status as cannabis. Instead, it will allow psilocybin to be stored and administered at licensed facilities.

It's about propensity to commit crime under the influence. Somewhat similar to punishing drunk driving even if the driver is just over the legal limit and driving perfectly fine. Now if someone wants to trip balls in the confines of their own home, they should be able to do that. Out in public though? I think it depends on the type of drug and the effects it typically induces in people. Overall, this is a great first step, and I'm glad to see it. Have you seen LA lately, city is turning into a crap hole that is absolutely overrun with homelessness. The answer isn't do nothing and the current solution is failing. It's not going to be 100% successful, but it doesn't need to be. It only needs to be more successful than mass incarceration of non-violent drug offenders.
