In 2000 and 2004 I didn't bother. Lived in CA. No point. First vote for President was 2008 -- primary for Paul, general for McCain. Was still pointless as I lived in CA, but the voting location was on my street.

May 3, 20214 yr I also voted in the 2008 general for 3 reasons, beyond the voting location being within walking distance. 1. I always respected McCain for what he went through in Vietnam. Not a fan of his foreign policy, but he was genuinely a good man. 2. I lived in SF at the time and wanted to be the only person all day to vote for McCain at that precinct. When I voted in the primary they had to search for a while for the GOP ballots because they hadn't used them all day -- and it was like 4pm. 3. I really didn't want Obama to be president.

Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the presidency was terrifying.

I was actually thinking about that after I posted it, could Palin have been any worse than Trump? Probably not. Sure she'd be drunk most of the time, but she probably wouldn't have made Bristol secretary of state or anything... probably.

Sure she'd be drunk most of the time, but she probably wouldn't have made Bristol secretary of state or anything... probably. Palin would've been infinitely more easy to control. She's a complete moron and a fame hound, but she's not a mental patient. Trump's an actual certifiably insane person with deep emotional problems. If he wasn't rich, he would be screaming on a street corner.
May 3, 20214 yr Author If the GOP is seriously offering to do $600B in physical infrastructure, then Biden should get it done. It'd be another win. Make a counteroffer, but ultimately, take what you can get and run with it. You can always come back to the table after midterms and top it off.

The go-big-or-go-home mantra was smart with Covid relief, but it'll play itself out pretty fast if he keeps holding the line. Getting a straight infrastructure bill that's something like 700B is a lot and would make a huge difference. That's almost what Obama got in '09.

I'm hoping that the intent of the ambitious proposal right now was done in the interest of posturing and mollifying the base. Set the bar high, then hope you can meet somewhere in the middle that is still palatable to most voters. That's what a master negotiator would do.

Just don’t seeing Dems going below 1 trillion. If they did that would give GOP a win. They’d rather tank then give win to GOP and be able to blame them for nothing getting done. Country is just too divided right now for either side to let other get a win. Party above everything. 😭

We spent like drunk sailors to get through covid, can we pump the brakes for a couple years to give us a chance to breathe? Not that I ever expected democrats to reign in spending, but hopefully a couple senators share my concern. Ultimately, this is why I truly hated Trump. By diving headfirst into populism with trying to outspend dems, and being just an all around abject failure of a president in every imaginable way, he's essentially set the bar so low that things like this are not only plausible due to a lost senate, but also no longer seen as radical and DOA.
