I know that you think intlligence directly correlates to the money in one's bank account, but it doesn't. I'm sure you know some stupid rich people. It quite literally directly correlates to wealth and income. It’s the single best predictor of wealth in all of the social sciences. Frankly, this is probably the single most established statistical correlation in the entire field of study and has millions of data points collected over a century to substantiate it.

November 14, 20213 yr Some studies apparently suggest IQ is: 1. A better predictor of poverty than economic success. This is a bit of hair splitting, but I can buy that low IQs are more likely to indicate poverty than high IQs are indicators of success because economic success requires the confluence of various factors including increased income as a motivator. There are plenty of examples of highly intelligent people in my network that have achieved some measure of financial success but chose to cap their standard of living and spend their time devoted to intellectually stimulating but less lucrative interests. 2. Possibly building on the first, @EaglesRocker97 worded his statement as "money in one's bank account" which is very different from income (realized or potential). INCOME is more highly correlated than wealth, which could certainly be explained by people who are high earners (who are disproportionately of higher intelligence) tending to spend more of their earnings. This goes to a predilection that is probably less correlated with intelligence: whether an individual is highly motivated by monetary wealth. Just because you're smart doesn't mean you'll measure your value by your bank account. I'd say most people who have high potential for income generation get to whatever standard of living they feel comfortable with, and then their motivations shift a bit. Some continue because of some innate drive for more wealth and material possessions (nothing wrong with that), but not all and it may certainly not correlate with intelligence. Likewise there are those lower on the intelligence spectrum who have a strong drive for material wealth but lack the ability ... I would guess this is a class of individuals always glomming on to get rich quick schemes or coming up with new business ideas that are either bad or that they have not the skill to execute on.

November 15, 20213 yr Yeah, she went there Quote Suspicion has sprouted out of the bitterness. Last month, White House aides leapt to the defense of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who was being hammered with outrage by Fox News host Tucker Carlson and like-minded online pundits for taking paternity leave after the adoption of his twins in September. Harris loyalists tell CNN they see in that yet another example of an unfair standard at play, wondering why she didn't get similar cover any of the times she's been attacked by the right. "It's hard to miss the specific energy that the White House brings to defend a White man, knowing that Kamala Harris has spent almost a year taking a lot of the hits that the West Wing didn't want to take themselves," said a former Harris aide, reflecting conversations last month among several former aides and current allies. Buttigieg, of course, isn't just a former 2020 Democratic primary rival; to many party insiders and suspicious Harris supporters, he is a likely challenger for the next open Democratic presidential nomination, whether that comes in 2024 or 2028.

We all love the sound of "infrastructure bill” but is that what the money goes to? before we get too happy. Quote Here’s a breakdown of the bill: ROADS AND BRIDGES The bill would provide $110 billion to repair the nation’s aging highways, bridges and roads. According to the White House, 173,000 total miles or nearly 280,000 kilometers of America’s highways and major roads and 45,000 bridges are in poor condition. And the almost $40 billion for bridges is the single largest dedicated bridge investment since the construction of the national highway system, according to the Biden administration. PUBLIC TRANSIT The $39 billion for public transit in the legislation would expand transportation systems, improve accessibility for people with disabilities and provide dollars to state and local governments to buy zero-emission and low-emission buses. The Transportation Department estimates that the current repair backlog is more than 24,000 buses, 5,000 rail cars, 200 stations and thousands of miles of track and power systems. PASSENGER AND FREIGHT RAIL To reduce Amtrak’s maintenance backlog, which has worsened since Superstorm Sandy nine years ago, the bill would provide $66 billion to improve the rail service’s Northeast Corridor (457 miles, 735 km), as well as other routes. It’s less than the $80 billion Biden — who famously rode Amtrak from Delaware to Washington during his time in the Senate — originally asked for, but it would be the largest federal investment in passenger rail service since Amtrak was founded 50 years ago. ELECTRIC VEHICLES The bill would spend $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging stations, which the administration says are critical to accelerating the use of electric vehicles to curb climate change. It would also provide $5 billion for the purchase of electric school buses and hybrids, reducing reliance on school buses that run on diesel fuel. INTERNET ACCESS The legislation’s $65 billion for broadband access would aim to improve internet services for rural areas, low-income families and tribal communities. Most of the money would be made available through grants to states. MODERNIZING THE ELECTRIC GRID To protect against the power outages that have become more frequent in recent years, the bill would spend $65 billion to improve the reliability and resiliency of the power grid. It would also boost carbon capture technologies and more environmentally friendly electricity sources like clean hydrogen. AIRPORTS The bill would spend $25 billion to improve runways, gates and taxiways at airports and to improve terminals. It would also improve aging air traffic control towers. WATER AND WASTEWATER The legislation would spend $55 billion on water and wastewater infrastructure. It has $15 billion to replace lead pipes and $10 billion to address water contamination from polyfluoroalkyl substances — chemicals that were used in the production of Teflon and have also been used in firefighting foam, water-repellent clothing and many other items. it's fairly popular too: Quote The Post/ABC poll, conducted by telephone between 7 and 10 November with a weighted sample of 1,001 adults, suggested that 63 per cent of Americans support the infrastructure bill and 58 per cent support the social bill, compared to 32 per cent and 37 per cent against. 63% is about as good as you're gonna get with today's political climate. in conclusion, president biden

LAX's renovation is basically a total rebuild of one of the busiest airports in the nation spread out over decades, and one that resides within the city and has a lot of NIMBY opposition.. individual terminal rebuilds are in the $100s of millions, not billions. I'm sure there are plenty who would have liked to see more made available for airports, but that's what Congress could agree on.

November 15, 20213 yr 46 minutes ago, Dave Moss said: I don’t think intelligence correlates with wealth at all. Fwiw. I think you could make the argument that ambition is much more important. Ambition is certainly important. No denying that. But there is no real way to measure ambition. And intelligence generally puts a hard cap on how much of your ambition can be realized. It doesn’t matter how hard you work to become Warren Buffett, if you’re an eighty IQ type of person it just isn’t going to happen. You just don’t have the intellectual horsepower to do the work. Wealth has less of a correlation with intelligence when you control for inheritance, but here’s the kicker... intelligence is mostly a heritable trait. So the smart people tend to be given more money from their parents and at earlier ages because their parents also tend to be smart and make more money and are able to do things like give their kids a down payment for a house or seed money for a new business.
