March 21, 20223 yr To go down this stupid list. 1. crime rates started increasing in 2020. not pinning that on Trump, there's definitely a lot of stupid liberal DAs across the country who are deciding not to prosecute certain crimes which is empowering criminals. those stupid DAs coupled with economic effects of Covid squeezing the poorest are both leading contributors I'd wager. Biden, for his part, is a voice against defund the police in the Democratic party. 2. energy independence ... the US was net exporter in 2021: https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=mttntus2&f=m .. yes we still import and export, as we always have, but Biden didn't "shut off production" despite what the right has to say. 3. economy - unemployment is down under 4%, GDP growth is strong. inflation is the worry, and a big one, but overall the economy is in pretty good shape - especially contrasting our recovery with other advanced economies. 4. the XL pipeline was nowhere near completion and would have shipped tar-sands oil that required addition of domestic oil just to be able to be refined, and would have been shipped off to other markets - it would not have directly contributed to the US supply of oil OR gasoline. (it would have, at some point though, contributed to global supply so it's fair to say that canceling it reduced potential supply in like 4-5 years. but not right now.) 5. afghanistan was a poorly executed exit. but we're out. other than being able to be a talking point for Republicans, who actually cares at this point? I have a lot more pride in my nation under Biden's leadership than under Trump's. For certain there are a dozen people I could name without thinking I'd rather be president, but if the alternative is Trump then yeah, Biden is the best president ever.

March 22, 20223 yr Author Quote And So It Begins... Ketanji Brown Jackson appeared yesterday for the first day of hearings into her potential elevation to the Supreme Court. In our preview, we said the whole affair would be "a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury. Signifying nothing." Nothing that happened yesterday has caused us to revise that opinion. Jackson, of course, played her role, which was to acknowledge how she is humbled by the opportunity, and then to say absolutely nothing of substance. From her opening statement: Today will be the fourth time that I have had the honor of appearing before this committee to be considered for confirmation. Over the past three weeks, I have also had the honor of meeting each member of this committee separately, and I have met with 45 senators in total. Your careful attention to my nomination demonstrates your dedication to the crucial role that the Senate plays in this constitutional process. And I thank you. And while I am on the subject of gratitude, I must also pause to reaffirm my thanks to God, for it is faith that sustains me at this moment. Even prior to today, I can honestly say that my life had been blessed beyond measure. Sounds nice, says little. The Democrats on the Judiciary Committee had two goals yesterday. The first was to emphasize, over and over, how historic this is, and how it's the Democratic Party that plans to put the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, which will be an important accomplishment for the Democratic Party, a.k.a. the party that expects to put the first Black woman on the Supreme Court. The second goal was to point out that the machinations of a certain party that shall remain nameless, but that is definitely not the Democratic Party (of first Black woman on the Supreme Court fame), have undermined faith the Court, and that seating a Black woman on the Court (something you can thank the Democratic Party for) will help to clean up the mess made by the unnamed party that has never seated a Black woman on the Court. Meanwhile, the Republicans also had a couple of goals. The first was to do some score-settling, and to use these hearings to passive-aggressively emphasize how wrong the treatment of Brett Kavanaugh was (and also the treatment of Robert Bork (!)—Republicans apparently hold grudges for a long time). Some are even describing the hearings as "Kavanaugh hearings, year five" as opposed to "Jackson hearings, day one." The Republicans' second goal was to tear the nominee down a bit. They didn't do a lot of this yesterday, but they did a little, and their questions about Jackson's allegedly tolerant attitude toward child pornographers and terrorists are going to take center stage today. This is, in many ways, the worst kind of political theater. The senators appear, to the casual observer, to be doing their jobs and vetting the candidate. But anyone reading this site knows that, at most, there are four senators whose votes are in question: Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). And even that list may be too long. Further, because none of that quartet is actually on the Judiciary Committee, their votes are likely not being swayed by the testimony given during the hearings. It would save everyone a lot of time and effort if those four just went to lunch with Jackson at the Olive Garden, and figured out if she has at the support of at least two of them. (Z)

Your first point is why there will be a red tsunami at the ballot box. To your last point, that botched exit - rushing out of the country with our tail between our legs - was a huge factor in empowering Putin. And anyone jumping to the conclusion that everyone criticizing Biden or wokeness or the liberal bubble press is a Trumpbot is an idiot. WTF? Where do you get the idea that Biden was "months ahead" - he's still weeks behind with the equipment Ukraine needs. We do know for a fact that he knew Russia was going to invade at least weeks before it happened. Why didn't he send in real deterrents then? He could have created a no fly zone during the Olympics, sent in anti-aircraft missiles and those Migs. But he waited until after Putin made his move. Had he acted sooner, Putin would have realized he couldn't win and wouldn't have invaded. Now that he's in though, he has to save face so getting him to stop is going to be next to impossible. Instead of crowing about how US intelligence sources knew that Russia was going to invade, Biden should have kept his stupid mouth shut and just sent Ukraine all the equipment needed for a proper defense before they had a chance to invade.

He did act. Supplies were sent beforehand and boots were on the ground in Ukraine training their defense forces to be the overachievers that they are right now. And by not keeping his mouth shut he was able to organize the most biting sanctions levied on a country in history. But I guess if I was an uninformed stunad I'd probably be completely unaware of any of this and come to a similar conclusion as you.
