Agreed.  I’m not sure if the 93% number is right or not, but I’ve read all kinds of stories on Twitter about people who owe hundreds of thousands of dollars.  It’s crazy.

You've spent too much time hanging around the likes of Munson.

  • While I disagree with Biden trying to save these idiots from themselves, it just proves what a wonderful human being he is. IMO we should encourage Trumpbots to all give each other Covid so they die o

Alright, let me try and give Dave the benefit of the doubt.

SLM would benefit if they really start collecting interest again in January, both on the loans they service and the small amount of loans they make. But literally every analyst who follows the stock thinks this is rather meaningless for them in the grand scheme of things.

None of this changes that the government controls 93% of the market based on its own data.

sallie mae's servicing company is now called navient, btw.  the entity still known as sallie mae now offers private student loans.

Yeah, just saw they spun that off. SLM has a small private loan book. Which isn't being impacted at all since truly private student debt isn't impacted by this.

Didn’t student loans used to have a fairly short loan period?  Like 10 years?  I keep hearing about 40-year-olds like Hazelton Eagle with huge loan balances.

I always thought they were pretty long term. My wife's were, but we paid them off years ago

Mine was 10 years, paid it off in 5.  I'm starting to get old though :-) so that was some time back.

You can opt for longer I guess

The standard repayment term for federal student loans is 10 years, but extended and income-driven repayment plans allow borrowers to stretch out their payments for as long as 20 or 25 years. These repayment plans can ease the burden of monthly student loan payments, but they can also dramatically increase total repayment costs.

Yeah back when William & Mary was $1000 a semester.

Standard is 20 I thought.

Haha, it wasn't that cheap but yeah.  I paid about $6k first year and then it went up each year and ended about $10k the last year.   My loan total was about $30k in today's values.

$20 says Hunt retweeted this from all his burners.

We paid my wife's off a few years ago in full before we even needed to make a payment. We only borrowed about 12,000 though, back when we were extra poor and not just regular poor like now.

I think my wife's was like 10k when we got married. I was rather ticked that the liability wasn't disclosed prior to the marriage...

You should have done a better job with the DD

Lmao.

My wife's college career was all over the place. She started before we met. Took random classes over a 5 year period and made terrible progress. Then in her late 30s got a few lucky career breaks and got extra motivated, went back, finished her associates and continued right through bachelor's and masters (and her degree even applied to her career, imagine that!). The loan was from when she went back, we didn't have a lot of extra cash at that time but she really felt she needed to keep momentum going.

Congrats to her!  All that momentum shoved you right into the kitchen and now she gets a life of you making the sammies.  Win win win.

I am sure to have that homemade salad or stir fry ready promptly at 12:30 though, as directed by management.

For the 1st time, when I mention "sammies" to you going forward I mean "food".

"Food" has 3 less letters than "sammies".

My wife got her degree is international business or something like that. She hasn't worked since we got married, so...money well spent?

Yeah, both in the total number of letters in each word AND in the total number of different letters in each word.

Now go make some sammies!

Well she isn't in debt and I'll assume she enjoyed at least some of school, so maybe?

My wife's degree is in regulatory affairs, quality and compliance. She is the global director of quality for a small but fast growing pharma company with several products in phase 3 clinical trials. She basically did the opposite of what people like HE did and got a degree in a field that is very marketable.

Not qualified, sorry.

Had she not gone to Pepperdine, I'd have never met her. So...she won or lost, depending on how much trouble I'm in.
