Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

It's funny how people act like there's only one career path, completely ignoring lessons learned from the past. Cunningham was demoted to a backup and eventually thrown out with the trash. He was out of football for a spell and then got a call to be a backup. The starter got hurt, he stepped in and had a special season. Alex Smith was booed out of SF after 7 seasons. He was united with Reid in KC and turned into a very reliable QB. Geno Smith was a laughing stock for most of his disappointing career. After backing up Wilson, he was given a legitimate shot to replace him after the trade. He is no longer the player that was cast aside years ago. Josh McCown and Ryan Fitzpatrick are examples of players that at the very least made careers of being bridge starters. Nick Foles has had success as a backup after being unable to hold on to a starting job for very long on any team.

Whether you like Wentz or not or root for him as a person or not, it's way too early to pretend the end of his story has been written. All I know is that right now, I'm a lot more concerned with Hurts' path / story.

Wentz has to essentially recreate himself as a person and a player to have a comeback though. The problem is right now is that he's viewed as a bad teammate and plays hero ball.

Will he be able to put aside his ego and sit as a backup for a extended period of time to get another chance? Who knows.

While doing some digital housekeeping, I found some screenshots from the old board. They're tagged Apr. 30, 2020, and the discussion is from the original Hurts draft thread. I was always on board with the pick, and when everyone was wringing their hands and losing their minds about how "dumb" the org. was for drafting Hurts, I was merely intrigued that we were seeing signs that they thought they might have to move on from Wentz way sooner than anticipated. I don't use the term lightly, but I think it's more than likely that the drafting of Hurts was an uncharacteristically calculated and shrewd manuever to plan for a post-Wentz future. Lurie and Roseman didn't want to move on from Wentz, but they were starting to see signs that they needed a contingency plan.

There is no way you get enough satisfaction from showing this to posters to justify the work that went into digging that up.

There was no work that went into it. I was just cleaning out OneDrive files and happened to come across these screenshots from the last day the old board was still online. In any case, I find them interesting, but otherwise...yes, yes, I do get a lot of satisfaction from showing all the haters just how wrong they were about this entire situation, and proving them wrong again when they want to make claims like "Well, NO ONE thought at the time that Hurts could've possibly been anything more than a career backup." Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and tell you that I believe the end of his NFL story has been written.  He will end up a commentator perhaps, but his starting QB days are over when the Redskins finish up with him.

Quite frankly I would be surprised if any team would make room for him on the bench, considering he doesn't have a history of being a helpful team mate.

Wentz is likely not going to be a starter again with the expectations that he’s a long term answer, but I’ve seen enough recycling in the NFL over the years, where I can see him being a place holder while a rookie sits a develops, similar to Doug P in 1999.

If he's willing to take one hell of a paycut, he'll catch on somewhere.  Holding a clipboard for a few seasons might be just the humbling experience he needs.

I just wish some team would pay me a few million to hold a clipboard.  I remember thinking guys like Gary Kubiak had the best jobs in the world.

I for one was not a fan of this pick albeit different reasons from all the Wentz apologists. First off I was pretty annoyed at that point of the Eagles once again spending a first or second round pick on a backup of development player. They needed starters and here they are again picking a guy who couldn’t help them. The other issue was well Wentz himself. He obviously couldn’t handle any kind of challenge to his position, and picking Hurts was exactly that. I loved how the beanbaggers kept telling us the Eagles messed up Wentz. I mean is it the Eagles fault every backup who went into games out performed him or had more success than him? Is it the Eagles fault it always seemed like the team played better for the backup? Is it the teams fault their starting quarterback wasn’t available enough for them? What I remember most about this time was how all these guys tried to rationalize this pick in their minds, but came up with some of the most outrageous outcomes. 😂 Yeah the Eagles are going to develop Jalen Hurts into a first round talent only to trade him away.  Or the Eagles drafted a player in the second round to make him Taysom Hill.  They didn’t want to acknowledge the truth and that was the Eagles weren’t 100% sold on Carson anymore and they were hedging their bets. Turns out they were right and all the beanbaggers were wrong. And no the beanbaggers don’t like rehashing this stuff, because makes them all look like fools.

Even some of the strongest Jalen Hurts haters have to agree that the man needs to be paid at this point.

Hater? Nah. Skeptical for sure though. Or was, can't really fault his play at all this season. Though I will say, he needs to do it when it matters most.

No Sir. You were a 100% hater and would now be spamming every day ‘I told you so‘ if things were any different.

Skeptical my ass. 😁

"Can't really fault his play" is one hell of a way to describe an MVP season.😅

Hurts has been an absolute beast this year and as a person he’s a class act. I couldn’t be more thankful he’s the QB of the Philadelphia Eagles young eagles fans have a great role model on and off the field

Criticizing a player ≠ hating the player.

I know that's difficult to understand.

The beanbaggers are playing the revisionist history game now. They have been exposed, but still lack the stones to admit they were wrong. Most of them anyways. There are a few who manned up and admitted they were wrong, but few and far between.

Jalen Hurts surpasses Carson Wentz's 2017 season in almost every category

Jalen Hurts is having, arguably, the best season of any Eagles quarterback ever.

In just his second full season as a starting QB, the 24-year-old is completing 68.1-percent of his passes. He has thrown for 2,940 yards, 20 TDs, and just three INTs and has a QB rating of 108.3.

On the ground, Hurts has rushed for 609 yards and nine touchdowns with just two fumbles lost.

If you add it all up, Hurts has accounted for 3,549 yards and 29 touchdowns with just three interceptions and five total turnovers.

His 2022 season, through 12 games, has surpassed Carson Wentz's 2017 season, where Wentz was set to win NFL MVP before tearing his ACL.

Hurts is amidst a two-horse race for NFL MVP with Patrick Mahomes, but after another Eagles win (11-1) and a Chiefs loss (9-3), Hurts may have the edge. At the very least, it's close.

You, 4for4 and downunder alone filled dozens of pages making fun of anyone refusing to agree Hurts is 'garbage‘.

But hey I‘ll chalk this day down as the day where even the last haters felt forced to get behind our franchise QB. With a big fat smile. 🙂

Most of those guys have been pretty silent these days. #imlovinit. 😂

A New Week, A New Storyline.  This season has so many symbolic connections.  Jalen plays his former OC in College Brian Daboll.  Jalen and Brian won the College Championship in 2018 the same time the Eagles were on their Super Bowl LII Run.

I've been giving him his props this entire season, because he's earned it. Including in this thread, the main thread, GDT, etc.

But sure, if you want to say I'm just now being positive about him and ignore everything beforehand (in regards to this season), go ahead.

@ManchesterEagle @Bwestbrook36 have said as much in this very thread, that I've never outwardly hated him, rooted for him to fail, etc and they have both been more on the Hurts train than I was.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, I guess.

Oh I thought there was some kind of new rule in this place where you couldn’t mention Wentz nor can you ever imply Hurts is better than him. 😂🤣😂

Everyone was excited (rightfully so) about the season Wentz put together in 2017 before getting injured.  Only purpose of posting that article was to point out that Hurts is actually having an even better season.

Swoop has always pointed out when Hurts has played well or better than he thought. I was on and off the train myself but that was last year's rollercoaster performances.

I don’t exactly feel the same excitement about Jalen’s better season than Carson”s first. I wasn’t like every game that year was a great one. The Chiefs game and the Giants game comes to mind. Don’t know it kind of feels like certain people around here are just waiting to get negative on this guy over the smallest issues. I guess it’s better to over analyze every throw or decision this young man is making that just enjoy the ride for some people.
On a side note I read some of those Twitter responses towards Joe and it felt like this place.
