I booked a trip at this resort for the summer, then a week after I booked it, this happens, then a few weeks after this, the US state dept issues a level 2 travel advisory. Maybe it's a sign.

They shut down the shark walk encounter after this happened, but we weren't planning on doing it anyways  One of the slides has a tunnel that passes through the big shark tank though, which is probably going to be unnerving at first.

Good chance the kid stepped on the shark or did something to provoke it.  I had a small reef shark swim by me while snorkeling in St. Croix a few years ago - never even looked my way.

From the reports, the shark came up from behind and swam between the kid's legs and the kid then tried to change his stance which spooked the shark. This is a paid encounter with trainers at the bottom of one of their exhibits with people watching, which is why it was filmed like that.

I’m going to Jamaica soon. Level 3 there.

We were planning to be at the resort 100% of the time anyways, but it makes me curious about what that ride from the airport is going to be like.

100% facts - we had an hour drive from the airport to our resort in Jamaica and it was exactly as he described.  We did NOT leave the resort

We were in Turks and Caicos when crime was starting to pick up there shortly after the Haiti earthquake, but didn't see anything crazy like that. But I had a work trip in mexico a year later that was similar to this. Groups of small kids just roaming around on their own, most of them looked like they hadn't bathed in months, stray dogs everywhere, having never seen anything like that before, it was jarring to say the least.

I want to go to Ricks and "cliff” dive. My wife isn’t going for it.

My sister went to Negril like 20 years ago and said it was a blast. That was back when things were probably a bit safer though.

We'll be in Negril, which I apparently pretty safe. We do plan on getting some edibles from a store near the resort that my buddy recommended. But other than some excursions through the resort we're staying inside the walls the whole week.

Ricks is one of the things we're doing. Both of us. Hopefully it'll be safe.

Me too. What part you going to?

Schmoopie is searching vacation spots as we speak

I had no idea this was on the agenda until an hour ago
