I'm guilty of this.  Growing up the only manual car we had was a 64 Stingray and my dad wouldn't teach me that.  "I don't know why anyone needs to learn a stick anymore" I was told in the early 90s. So despite schmoopies best efforts I never learned.

Now I have an EV that mimics engine noise if you want

My parents didn’t have any manual cars when I started driving either but all of my older friends did so I’d get them to let me drive their cars. But I grew up riding atvs and dirt bikes so I knew the mechanics of shifting and clutch and everything, I just need to train my feet to coordinate instead of my hands.

The first manual transmission car I ever drove was my buddy’s firebird. I pulled out of my drive and got to the stop sign at the end of my road like a 1/2 mile away taking it nice and easy. As I pulled out onto more of a major back road he says "every once in a while the throttle sticks so if starts to rev up when you push the clutch in, just give the pedal a quick kick and it’ll kick down”. So in addition to coordinating my feet I was also having to give the accelerator pedal random kicks to get it to not rev out of control. While also learning and getting comfortable driving as I was still on my permit. Good times.

My dad only bought manual transmission cars. But when my siblings and I learned how to drive, we all got automatic transmissions since it was easier to pass the driving test (and we weren't messing with around with his car learning how to drive. ;)). So I learned to drive manual after mine broke down. And I had some experience from 4-wheeler/ATV/snowmobiles. My first new car purchase was a manual, dating myself, over 20 years ago.

Why else do you have a jeep? It's that, and the ducks.

Don’t forget waiving to each other so it feels like you have friends because you made a common purchase.

Correct answer: "Yes, actually. That is what I wanted you to do. Be right back."
