I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

The problem with Nolan Patrick is that he’s objectively the worst of any of the top 5 picks. It could be argued that Hischier hasn’t been leaps and bounds better, but Hischier, Heiskanen, and Pettersen have all been named all-stars, and Cale Makar logs 25 minutes per game with the Avalanche.

When I watch the Flyers play (which isn’t a lot anymore) I seldom notice Patrick at all.  Joel Farabee looks much more advanced despite being a year younger.  The #2 overall pick should be a top six forward by now and Patrick isn’t close to that level.

You realize he didn’t play hockey for about 18 months? I’ll start making conclusions about him towards the end of this season. That said, I would have hoped to have seen a little bit more from him so far, but too early to tell.

Geeez in mid 2000s in Arizona in state tuition was $2000 a semester. It’s jumped to $10000. But Villanova is an awesome school but damn $200000 is steep.

Just saying they’re some of us who think that he was a solid player but very overrated before missing the 18 months. I think he’ll be a solid player. I don’t think he becomes this star that a lot of flyers fans (not you but there’s a lot of these type of flyers fans) seem to always think their prospects are automatically going to be.

Nope.  Actually my parents said go out and find a job.  I found places that were hiring, asked for applications.  I looked in the paper to see who was hiring and made phone calls asking for interviews.

I worked as a mover one summer with about 20 guys from a halfway house.  I was the only white guy.  You know how I got that job?  I drove up because I wanted a labor job to keep me active during the summer.

Even if I did get a job through my social network that's the whole point of having one.

You're white?  Had no idea.  Thought maybe you were related to 2pac.

Who has the most degrees across the board ? Yes , you’re correct millennials  .

now I don’t know how you define education , so do share .

Lincoln had no degrees and must therefore have been an idiot.

I am not sure what you’d have to give up to get him but i feel like Tk and frost are likely just starting points. Probably gonna need to include someone like York with those two. Steep price to pay. You’d have to also unload a big contract to get it under the cap or deal ghost somewhere cause TK and ghost make up eichel’s 10 mil and the flyers don’t have the cap unless they do that.

One way or another Buffalo would have to agree to take Voracek as part of the deal.

I guarantee that the increases in college tuition have nothing to do with faculty salaries.

What, were you hoping for more ridiculously unrealistic mock drafts?

the millennials are by all measures the best educated generation of all time.

Millennials hold the highest rates of high school graduation, the highest rate of college graduation and the highest rate of masters and doctorates degrees. Yes, they've been saddled with insane levels of debt, but that money wasn't entirely wasted.

That doesn't make them "smarter" in fact it doesn't even make them better "educated".

Wasn't there an independent thread for mocks in the past so the blog is not spammed....

Technically yes, they no longer own this board so they can piss off

I feel like voracek they wouldn’t want to take on that contract at their current state. Maybe they try and flip him.

Those are pretty fuzzy parameters....

What we are witnessing is the byproduct of the greatest dilution of education in our country's recent history. In my county the two high schools with the highest graduation rates have the lowest overall test scores in math and english language arts. Some schools have no criteria for their AP courses so any student can opt in on their own so many students have inflated GPA's.  Again the two high schools also have the highest AP participation rate but the lowest AP results....I seriously question what their priorities are.

In addition, many colleges are packaging BA/MA degrees programs to new students...not for the benefits of the student, but as a way to increase tuition revenue...MA's and doctorates are being given away like candy

Both of my kids loaded up on AP classes.  Heck, back in the dark ages, my sister and I took what were AP level classes and the tests before college.  (So glad I declined the credit for my freshman level history at A&M because my Prof was a military historian.  We blew through the other stuff and languished on the Wars. Damn, I loved it and I am damned near a pacifist).  Most of my kids classes were solid classes of college freshman level. You do have to take and pass the final at a certain level for credit.  Just means you are taking higher level courses.

My daughter is working on her second undergraduate degree through PSU World Campus.  I think that distance learning is moving way past Phoenix University and quality education with all the tools they offer.  My sister pioneered teaching online at her college and has some interesting thoughts on it, mostly pro but cons towards the added burden on the teacher. Also many institutions are giving away courses on the internet or selling them as Great Courses, no tests or credits. Cheap learning unless you are in it for the credit.  I recommend.

This is off topic so I will reply and then move on. Education is not about the number of degrees.

My dentist has her own practice - it's just her but she has another dentist who works in the office part time. He works at another office too - she is a new dentist for me so I don't know what the actual relationship is but the part timer is not a recent graduate just getting experience. my guess is late 30"s to early 40's. A few weeks ago I was in the dentist office with my wife and the dental assistant was out. The part timer needed an X-Ray and was freaking out because the assistant wasn't there and he didn't know how. He finally interrupted the hygienist who was with another patient.

My sister's father in-law was a dentist. I don't know how old he was but I'm thinking born early to mid 1930's. He had an assistant(s) to handle "tasks" like x-rays etc. But he was capable - the office didn't shut down because the assistant called out sick.

I had another example but it gets too personal (as if the above wasn't). My point is the millennial education has gradually moved to specialization and while there may be more (and higher percentage) with a higher education that does not make them more educated - I would argue that millennials are far less educated - even those with college degrees.

If you need to get blood drawn, DON'T get a doctor, no matter how many degrees s/he has.

Get a nurse.

I know very educated people who are stupid as hell. They can do a quadratic equation in their mind but are Rain Man about everything else.

No they wouldn't want him but would have to take him to get the other cheap, young talent.

I will take experienced, street smart/common sense smart over book smart 7 days a week and twice on Sundays. That is a dying breed. We are all doomed, thank goodness we should all be dead before we see the end.

You are absolutely right. But the doctor should know how. If I was a doctor, I wouldn't want to do the nurses job, but I would want to know how.

I go back and forth on this, and I'm not sure there is a right answer. I agree you don't want to Darnold them and throw them out there with no supporting staff where the QB will never properly develop. On the other hand, if you have a sub par to average QB and you build up the roster, you keep pushing yourself towards mediocre to average which puts you in no mans land to get a QB unless you do a massive trade  up.

Unless you can evaluate that QB with more foresight than others.  HOU traded up from #25 to 12 to select Deshaun Watson in the 2017 draft, and KC traded up from #27 to 10 to select Patrick Mahomes in the same draft.  It really wasn’t all that expensive, either.  KC gave up a 3rd round pick and next year’s 1st, where HOU only gave up next year’s first.

I guess we will find out how astute Sirianni and Steichen are at evaluating QB talent.
