The GM brought in a WR that the offensive coaching staff couldn't figure out how to implement.  The GM also brought in a DE/LB that the defensive coaching staff couldn't figure out how to integrate either.   So, how much influence did the coaching staff really have on the GM?   Oh, and did we forget about the HC saying his OC and WR were safe one day, only to have them removed literally the very next day?  Sure... the GM was doing what the HC wanted and the vision was 100% Doug's.   That's a good story.  Too bad the actual events and facts don't support that one bit.  Instead it would appear that the GM/Owner were the ones pushing the direction, against the HC's wishes.

The OL wants crazy athletes, eh?  Then how do you explain Matt Pryor and Nate Herbig, who wouldn't exactly be at the top of anyone's list for 'crazy athletes'?

Obviously, the coaching staff have a vision.  The GM has a vision.  The owner has a vision.  My contention is that these visions are not unified.  Hence the problem.  When the owner hires a GM, then the GM (and owner too, I suppose, as Lurie is always involved in that process), then they need to hire the HC that shares the same vision as they have.  If that vision differs, then that's going to lead to problems.   And that is the issue as I see it with the last 3 years.

So you think Howie brought in Tate and Avery without conferring with Doug and Schwartz? Look what I found on the trash heap?

Or more likely, they wanted help then when they got the players, realized they had no clue how to use them. Schwartz has always liked fastballs off the bench for passing situations (Sweat, Hall, etc.). Who knows with Doug, maybe he was toying with moving Agholor outside? Then didn't like the look.

Pryor was a late 6th rd pick and Herbig a UDFA, and Stoutland has a lot of input in OL drafting and signing. We bring in 3-4 UDFA OL after every draft.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

The best "Big" man workout I can remember was Barrett Brooks (and Poe at DT the same year).

Brooks VT 32", LJ 8'9, ran a 4.98 with a 1.71 split, 4.58 SS, 7.42 cone at 335 lbs.

Which is why I'm not worried about him, he's got tremendous athleticism and a great work ethic. He'll be back this year.

Depends who is on the board at the time of the picks.  I wouldn't be upset, but I would prefer if we draft 2 DBs that 1 of them is a S who can cover.  Ss who can cover are just as important and valuable as CBs now.  That's why I would like to see us get two Ss with cover ability who can both tackle enough instead of 1 FS and 1 SS.  Having two Ss who can cover will really help out your CBs.  It's a passing league now.

Yup.  in today's NFL safeties have more value to a defense for me as safeties can offer more to as a defense, for instance malcolm jenkins could play in the box deep Third cover the slot cover TEs effective blitzer and occasionally even cover WRs out wide where as most corners are relegated to one side of the field and are sketchy tacklers.

Lurie literally had a press conference to explain that Doug wanted to keep trying to repeat while Lurie felt a rebuild was needed and that’s why they were parting ways.

What you’re saying is that the owner of the team went on national television and outright lied, completely inverting the opinions of himself and Doug, and that subsequently no reporter has since been able to find a single source calling out this blatant inversion.

Or, we can be sane, and accept that the story Lurie told was accurate.

Yes, the spin conference.  I'm judging it based on what actually happened, not what the 'story' was after the fact.  And yes, I believe that Lurie's version of things was a bit slanted.   And that a lot of it was covering for either Howie's mistakes... or his own when he veered out of his lane and got handsy.

Barrett Brooks was drafted in 1995 and Dontari Poe in 2012 so...

Not sure what they're serving down their in Texas but I think it's time to lay off😉

Play nice, us old men get confused at times.

Yes, they bring in a lot of UDFAs at OL, but haven't drafted many recently... and Pryor was one of them that they did draft.   Hardly an athletic OG.

But, yes, I think that Howie makes personnel moves based on whatever criteria he sets.  He likes to make splashes.  Bringing back Desean was much more splash than substance.   And again, I'll remind you that the move to bring Desean back wasn't the issue.  The issue was the CONTRACT that he gave Desean.  That doesn't fall on the HC one bit.  Desean was under contract when they acquired him.  No need to give him a new deal.  Had they not, they could have gotten out from under him with minimal cost.  Instead, they are still on the hook for another $5M now that's dead, while the 49ers who he will attempt to play for this year will spend less than that.

Still no answer on the HC having his coaching staff decisions being overruled?  But, we are supposed to believe that Howie and Lurie were letting all the other decisions be made by HC unilaterally.    Ok.  That fits...   🤔

I really hope Barrett is fired by CSN.   But, I'm guessing you are referring to BRANDON Brooks.

I've never seen fields play but this clip would dispel the notion that he doesn't get off his first read.

I imagine he'll be the 3rd qb taken.

I just can't believe the niners really traded up for Mac Jones.

Even so Id take fields over Lance, Lance seems like a bust to me he put up pretty mediocre numbers against mediocre competition and doesn't have a substantial amount of tape like some other prospects.

36.5 inch vert broke the record

10-foot-1-inch broad jump tied the record

Doug didn't want to bring in a real OC. In fact, there is no "Doug" coaching tree, Reich had already been an OC in SD for two years before he was hired in Philly.

So yeah, at some point Lowie got frustrated, the one thing that characterizes most successful HCs (other than Belichick, who is sui generis) is their ability to find and develop staff - and prepare for eventually losing them.

Greg Lewis as a RB Coach?

The notion I got from the blog is Justin Fields is a one read QB who is the second coming of Dwanye Haskins.

He’s much better than Haskins and can go through reads. He’s got the tools to be a good QB.

Springsteen has admitted to being tight fisted, which is not uncommon for people who grow up poor, it's hard to shake the feeling that your prosperity is temporary and disaster awaits just around the corner. But he not only does a lot of benefits, he's been generous to causes and his band, especially as he's aged and felt more financially secure.

Celebrities tend to live in "Fortresses" - I would, remember John Lennon. America is full of crazy people with easy access to guns.

Why does Springsteen always look like he is taking a monster dump?

Would you be upset if we went Corner in 1st then Corner in 2nd?  Like Horn, Asante?

Horn I'm 100% on board with in round 1. Round two I'd rather a different route such as LB, S, WR or to a lesser extent DE, OL

Rationalizing overruling the HC in one case, while trying to build the case that the HC was the one defining the vision of the organization.  You don't see the inconsistency there?

BTW... they never did hire a 'real OC' last year after that overruling of the HC.  So... seems that your rationalization misses the mark.

And if they didn't trust Doug's decisions for his coaching staff, how would it make sense for them to trust him with the decision on which players to overpay?   🤔

Nah, they were trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Houston Police say a complainant has filed a report concerning #Texans QB Deshaun Watson. This is the first known report filed to the Houston Police Department, as all cases up to this point have been civil and have not involved police.
