"There was a revealing moment in Howie Roseman's presser Wednesday when he was asked about siding with his coaches over his scouts to make the Jalen Reagor and Jalen Hurts picks, and he answered the question matter-of-factly, without denying that that's exactly what happened."

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/nfl-draft-2021-eagles-howie-roseman-has-revealing-press-conference-moment

Why would he side with his coaches? Well, going into 2020 it was either go for it or fire Doug and Schwartz, because they weren't interested in rebuilding.

That's where winning the SB screwed up decision making, it gave Doug and Schwartz the pull to influence personnel decisions, the same way AR got that pull after a long streak of playoff appearance and a SB loss. Coaches in all sports tend to prefer "win now" solutions, because they might not be around to "win later." Lurie might have pushed the scales a little for Hurts, but I think with Foles gone Doug wasn't comfortable with depending on Wentz to stay healthy, and face it, he loves his RPO.

That's why I'm far more comfortable with the draft the next few years, not only does Sirianni lack the SB pull, but he was hired explicitly to manage a rebuild, so his incentives align with the personnel department - add as much talent as possible, worry about "need" a few years from now. Which is why "NFL ready" will not be a priority in this draft.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Anything is possible. Say they liked Lance but considered him high risk, well at #6 that risk could be too high but at #12, with a 2022 1st rd pick in the bag, that risk might be worth taking.

Analytics-oriented team (Panthers) + a GM that likes CBs with size (From the Seattle tree). Makes sense.

Stinks of smoke to get a trade up

Lurie forgot to tell Nick and Howie that.  You’re the one who assumes these guys go out and have Lurie speaking into their ears, yet neither Howie nor Nick named Hurts the starter — even when asked repeatedly in their PC

The Eagles don’t have a starting QB.  Sirianni said as much, Hurts plays like he’s not a starting QB, and Howie said "all options are on the table”.  I would not take a QB at #12, but if Lance and/or Jones is sitting there at #12 it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they took a QB

That’s ridiculous.  If they liked a QB in the 1st round of this draft, they wouldn’t trade down to 12. They aren’t drafting a QB in the 1st.  I don’t know how many times it needs to be said.

I wouldn't say the won't...I mean seriously with this front office. But yes logic would say they won't.

college YAC is nothing like the NFL contact he will see

So what’s the excuse for the other WRs who didn’t out perform in YAC then? If it was so easy they should have done better right? He led the NCAA man

A few days before the draft half the rumors are pulled out of some reporter's butt and the other half planted.

Even though I like Mills better, I could see the Howie taking Trask in the 3rd round. Esp with Brian Johnson as our QB coach.

Trash in the 3rd would be a little too high for me.

Exactly why Howie would take him there:) He loves take a player one round too early.

Didi has seen 2 pitches.  2!!!   And he’s gotten 2 outs.  1st AB was a double play after a lead off single by JT.  JT leads this current inning off with another single and pops it up Jimmy Rollins style.  JFC

On a bummer note, seems like the league has a book on Bohm.  I'm not watching much but he must have a kryptonite.

It’s my fault.  I said two weeks ago he should be leading off.  Just the mention of it, caused him to go into a drought.

Fix it.

Phillies are a .500 proposition at best until they commit to building up their pitching.  Can’t go on a winning streak when you’ve only got two starters capable of winning games.

Seems a waste of time

Top 3 are good.  But the bullpen still sucks.  Howard should be getting starts.  Ridiculous that a 24 year old starting pitcher is being treated like a high school pitcher.

Day 1 and 2 are very good; Day 3 goes off into the weeds a bit

Neris!  3-0 on Goldschmidt and battles back for the save.

Isn’t drafting a QB at #12 smarter than drafting him at #6?  You come out ahead an additional first round pick .....

Yes.  I'm OK if they use 12 on a QB-though it's not my stated preference.  What I can't abide is after having gone back, blowing capital to go up higher for a QB.  If somebody falls to 12-and they decide he's BPA-all well and good.

Anderson is a great pick there. As is Chrisman as you get a guaranteed starter.

This website has the most realistic draft simulator, in my opinion.  https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/mock-draft-simulator.  It is a lot more realistic with trades, too. It's tougher to get a great draft.  The PFF mock and PFN mock are too easy.

I don't really want to see the Eagles go for one of the tier 2 WRs on day 2.  It just feels like our usual opportunity to add a Reggie Brown / Jordan Matthews target eater.  Not sure I see any guys projected to go in round 2-3 at WR that offer an interesting dimension to our offense.

There are few good WRs with decent size in this draft. That’s definitely an issue in terms of fit.

Thought this was interesting and it builds the case to go CB in round one.

Reminder that only 6-8 of the top 12 players we have been conditioned to go in the top 12 picks by mock drafts will actually go in the top 12 picks. The Eagles will be a contributing variable in this.
