I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I have in the past before I bought a smoker.

Absolutely.  Ben should have been embarrassed by his poor foul shooting long ago.  But he's been coddled for too long... called a treasure, etc.  The reality is, his foul shooting should have been called out by his coach long ago, AND never allowed to get to the point it did in Game 4... and when Doc saw what they were doing, he needed to start pulling him in that game. Doc cost the Sixers game 4, not Simmons... because Doc knew the problem but did nothing to address it.

I get that defense is important, but unless you’re Dennis Rodman or Ben Wallace, especially a PG, should be able to shoot a basketball into the hoop from below the rim

Yes... hence the need for the offense/defense subs, because he is a better defender than anyone else on the roster.   But can't be allowed on the court at the end of the game offensively if at all possible.

Maxey is already a better point guard than Ben

watch Doc not play him tonight

He definitely won't.

The game is Sunday night.

Yeah posting country music = insta-ban.

Hokey pokey is ok because as you know, that's what it's all about.

That's pretty hilarious and kind of sad that the blog is where most of the reports come from. Curious on who does it the most in here lol I mean you can see some wild convos in WU

Is there also penalties for people abusing the report feature?

I guess I'm in the minority that just keeps scrolling when I see something about basketball, baseball, or something else that doesn't interest me in here

You'd turn people away from the site if you gave warnings or suspensions IMO. Since you have the reports maybe you can message whoever it is and let them know personally to take that discussion to CVON. That might be more work for you but a message from a mod on a personal level may help better

We wanted the "let em play refs!" approach. I explained in the guidelines the differences in sub-forums.

We created guidelines because people asked for them, and were reporting each other and wanted clarity.

No.  The fact that they didn't do it sooner is what is embarrassing.  That's on Doc.

A blind man should have seen it coming... and I have proof.  saw the need for it coming.  He's a liability to the team offensively in the 4th quarter of a close game.  We saw it in Round 1.  Atlanta wised up to what to do in Round 2 and stole a game they had no business winning in Game 5.   And Doc finally smartened up, put Simmons' ego on the back burner, and did what was necessary for the team.

The global, greater problem is Ben Simmons.  But he has been here for 4 years and is what he is.  If they lose the series, it will be because Doc waited too long to do what needed to be done with Simmons.

I disagree.  The greater problem is how the Sixers have dealt with and covered for Ben Simmons.  He was never held accountable to improve a basic portion of the game.  excuses were made, criticisms were swatted away, but the reality hasn't changed... and neither has Ben's game.  That's the fault of the organization because they never challenged him,

If you can’t shoot a free throw, that’s a muscle memory/hand-eye thing. Or nerves. I’m not sure how fixable that is

Make him shoot granny style

win win in that it increases his odds and humiliates him at the same time

If it was worked on as a youngster and someone got that flapping elbow down, he might have had a chance.  But the truth is, it is muscle memory, but there is an easy answer to fixing it...  work.  Lots and lots and lots of work.  It takes committing to it.   But if people who have a stroke can be taught to walk again, write again, etc. a world class athlete can be taught proper form for a free throw.  This isnt something where his instinct has to take over.  This is a stoppage in play, he has time to think, focus on the proper form and do it right.

But, shooting lots of free throws with terrible form won't improve his shooting percentage.  He needs to fix his form.  He needs to tear it down and build it all over again, as if he was never taught how, because he was never taught how.  He would likely never be a "great" foul shooter.  But he can get better than being the worst shooter beyond 12 or 15 feet in the history of the NBA for a "guard".  Maybe he could only get to 70%... maybe in the playoffs that would drop to 60% or even 50%... but where he is right now is criminally bad.

It also would eliminate the muscle memory problem... and let him start fresh.  People laughed at Rick Barry... but he was 89%.  Top 5 all time in the NBA, I believe and was the best ever for a while, I think.

The truth is that the Blog has mostly been a smaller community and we have always veered off topic.  Most in this group don’t venture to CVON or any other forums.  You are letting some newcomers police our group whereas even PE.com let things pretty much alone.   So PM the supposed offenders and look closely at the reporters.  Are they regular posters on the Blog or visitors?

It’s June.   We traditionally get a bit off topic with little Eagles to discuss. That includes talking about barbecue, the Civil War, economics and other topics including occasionally some current topics.  Many of us contributed to the funding of this board. That doesn’t give us license but it does show an interest in continuing a group that has been talking with each other for close to two decades    A little leniency is appropriate because we do tend to do some self moderation.  We also are known to PM each other.  Take greend’s advice.  If the post doesn’t interest you, scroll down.

BTW, what type of smoker do you prefer?

Here is my opinion on 3 possible levels of moderation depending on the severity of the issue. @Moderator6

1. Off topic discussion. Its going to happen. Let it happen. especially in the offseason. (no hockey talk allowed though).

2. Off topic discussion gets political. Fine. But if its getting a little carried away, verbal warning via PM. Not a real warning. No points.

3. It devolves to race baiting. If the race baiter gets reported, real warning/suspension/points.

Tony Dungy was real focused on changing habits. It is easy to revert to old habits and difficult to change and not revert in the heat of the game.

The problem I always found with trying to change muscle memory is sometimes the more I concentrated on the issue the more my attempts to change made things even worse. Look at all the golfing "training equipment” on the market, for example. Not sure Simmons is fixable.

Would you rather have Mailata end up winning LT position because he's younger?

Younger, larger and far greater potential.
