Let's not forget, QB's get overvalued in the draft.  I wouldn't be shocked if there is a combine and teams fall in love with Trey Lance and someone reaches for him.

Someone’s going to fall in love with that kid. He has a cannon for an arm and he can run. I will bet anything at some point in this draft process some analysts is going to compare him to Patrick Mahomes coming out of Texas tech. I almost guarantee at some point in time that’s the comparison somebody’s going to come up with

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

People like Goedert more because he's got a more well rounded TE skill set including blocking, more physical and getting YAC.

And in truth... Goedert has all the physical tools to be a really really good TE, perhaps a top 5 TE in the league, but if he's half as good as Ertz he'll have had a really really good career.

Here's another one:  I never really liked him.  Solid TE, had a few very good years, a little overrated.

After he decided that it was his job to block people (at least try to) I really liked him both as a player and from what I know about his as a person. This year I don't like him so much as a player.

I mentioned it yesterday.   But... proceed with caution.  Mahomes needed to be reigned in a bit before they turned the reigns over to him.  I think Lance is far more raw and much more a runner.  He's an instinctual runner... but the running he did at NDSt could lead to a lot of bruises and potentially career altering injuries in the NFL.   He's got as much chance of becoming RGIII (if not more) as he does Mahomes.   Any team that does fall in love with him needs to do right by the kid and NOT start him.   He's basically taken an entire year off from football, and when he did play it was at the FCS, not FBS level.   He's got a steep learning curve, though he's got significant tools, and likely has the highest upside of any of these QBs.

Measure it how ever you want.  To me, Alex Singleton is the Greg Ward of LBs.

That’s fine. I think he’s an average linebacker by when i watch games around the league on sundays and he is not as bad as others and not great like others. He really is the definition of average when i watch other game then him.

I get the notion that you might watch games around the league.   Cool.

I am 100 percent agree with everything you said. I just know some analyst is going to go on TV and he’s going to be like this kid is Patrick Mahomes. If you get him playing at this level he’s going to be Patrick Mahomes and I have a feeling he’s going to move up draft boards because that’s how teams are going to think about him up

I’m 100% in agreement with you that’s why I think the Carolina Panthers make the most sense for him. He can sit behind Teddy Bridgewater for a year and learn the system and get caught up with the speed of the game and be ready by 2022. That’s the team that makes the most sense to me because Matt ruhle not going anywhere and they’re not gonna fire him after year two.

I think you guys are really discounting the fact that this guy hasn’t played football in over a year.

Hence me saying him going that high would be wild

OK that was not my point. I guess it’s cool to keep mentioning Greg Ward theory as your ultimate reasoning.

He's a great receiving TE.  Fans don't like him because he's not a 1940s tough TE knocking guys down and dragging them with him into the end zone.  People loved Celek and he didn't have the receiving production Ertz did.  Ertz is finesse and falls down almost every time he makes a catch, and it's a running joke about him with YAC.  People like Goedert more because he's got a more well rounded TE skill set including blocking, more physical and getting YAC.

We once had LJ Smith as the TE and it was embarrassing.  Having said that, Ertz is done here.  The contract dispute and the bad year, plus having Goedert means they're probably going to trade him.

I understand that the team is moving on from him and why he's not revered by some.  I also think some people are dumb for not appreciating him.  Ertz is arguably the best TE in the history of the team.  I mean it's between him and Retzlaff.  Retzlaff played 3 more seasons with the team and has less receptions but more yards.  Ertz is certainly the best TE in the Super Bowl era.  I think Goedert is fine but he's overrated here because of some of his RAC ability.  He lacks the route running finesse that Ertz has proven to be nearly as productive.  One of the criticisms of Goedert has been his ability to gain separation at the top of routes and that's not been an issue for Ertz.  Goedert reminds me of a Celek more than a Kelce or Kittle.

Since Reid left, their 1st round picks have been 2 OT, 2 DE, 2 WR, 1 QB

2013: Lane Johnson - #4 - OT
2014: Marcus Smith # 26 - DE
2015: Nelson Agholor #20 - WR
2016: Carson Wentz #2 - QB
2017: Derek Barnett #14 - DE
2019: Andre Dillard # 22 - OT
2020:  Jalen Reagor #26 - WR

No Corners.  No safeties.  No Linebackers.  (I don't count Marcus Smith as LB.)

Their 2nd round picks have been 2 TE, 2 WR, 2 CB, 1 RB, 1 QB

2013:  Zach Ertz #35 - TE
2014:  Jordan Matthews #42 - WR
2015:  Eric Rowe #47 - CB
2017:  Sidney Jones #43 - CB
2018:  Dallas Goedert #49 - TE
2019:  Miles Sanders: #53 - RB
2019:  JJ Arcega-Whiteside #57 - WR
2020: Jalen Hurts #53 - QB

2 Corners who got traded or cut.  No safeties.  No Linebackers. No DT or DE.

No wonder the defense has no legit young talent apart from Barnett.

I have been done with him for a while.  He seems like he is a little dramatic.  Dude played with no heart sunday all year and then gets in front of the cameras and cries like he's all heart.

Fixed that for you.

It's not about not appreciating him. 5 years from now, he'll be well remembered by the team and fanbase. Right now, after this dumpster fire of a year where he looked like he didn't want to be on the field, after crying about not getting paid enough, is the reason why there is vitriol towards him. Time will soothe those wounds, but after this year, F Ertz.

It really wasn’t just Sunday this year where he played with no heart. I’m not gonna say he didn’t put any effort into it. But there’s plays where he was just let guys run free to the QB and didn’t even attempt to make a block. I got to say that is really offputting and his body language was bad all year.

I respect what he’s done for the organization. And he’s going to go into the Eagles Hall of Fame when this is all said and done. But he and the organization handled this terribly this year. And they both come off looking poorly and need to move on from one another.

Barnett is not young or legit.  He's going into his 5th year.  He's average and won't get much better.

Barnett is young. He was like 21 when he came in to the NFL so he was a very young player when he entered the league. And he's better than average. He's not elite or even second tier but he's better than average.

Well I was being nice.  He's at least a quality starter.  I do want more out of a 1st rounder though.

My only real gripe with Barnett is he seems to be a headcase. Taking just the dumbest personal foul penalties, and seems to be a cheap shot artist. I hate those type of players.

Oh for sure. And not just the personal fouls. He gives away too many bone headed penalties.

This goes back to my point I made earlier that people are down and upset about Derek Barnett at pick 14 just being a capable starter. Yet people are going to be happy and justify at six that you just get a capable starter there? That’s absurd. When you’re picking in the top 10 you better get an impact player.

His age is young....his body isn't.  But the term "Young" would also imply he has upside.....he doesn't.  I am the biggest Vols fan in here.  I was hoping his great college career would translate.  @HazletonEagle and I go rounds....a lot.  But he got this one right.  I was willing to give him a chance after we drafted and wanted others to do the same.  But at this point, he is what he is.  Which is an average DE that can't stay on the field.  His "bend" got him to the QB a ton in college.  He needs more than that in the NFL and it just isn't there.

I’m actually curious to see what they do with Derek Barnett. Cause I’m with you I think he’s an average starting defensive end in the league. I don’t think he’s anything special. Now I don’t think Josh sweat is anything special either.  I wanna see what they do with both of them. Both are eligible for new contracts. Sweat is a free agent at the end of this upcoming year as well.

I really wouldn’t be so surprised if they trade Derek Barnett for a late round pick to somebody who believes he still capable of reaching the ceiling and he negotiates a new contract with that team. And they give some of the money they were going to pay Derek Barnett on the 5th year option to sweat as part of an extension

I think so too. LB is so bad right now that anything looks great

We were so hyped about Ward last season thinking he could be a starter. He may be one of our best WRs still but that's because the WR position is still really bad
