My wife's aunt isn't that hardcore but she's pretty far down the rabbit hole herself. Fox news is on 24/7 in their house (literally every time we go there). They don't even watch local news anymore, it's just fox news and Facebook "articles" for everything. Scary stuff what a steady diet of that crap can do to a person's mind. We've seen her and my uncle go from being staunch but still reasonable republicans to straight up zombies who think Trump can do no wrong and Biden is pure evil, hell bent on destroying the country.

Since we're talking about our wive's aunts, my wife's aunt was at Jan 6th.  She's insanely rich though, and old money rich, so that sheet's pretty frowned upon where she lives.  Her and a couple of her friends were there and then when they got back somebody wrote into the local newspaper and called them out for it and now no one wants to be associated with her.  It's pretty great. 

She also hounds my wife constantly about whatever the hot button right wing media topic du jour is and went on a tirade when she found out we were vaccinating our kids.  Not sure why it's any of her mf'ing business, but the "don't tell me how to live my life" crowd sure does love cramming their garbage opinions down everybody else's throats.

They'll absolutely do it and I wouldn't be surprised if McCarthy had to eventually cave and actually hand it to him.  I used to think no one could ever top the Dems when it comes to doing everything in your power to lose elections, but the Republicans have lapped them at this point.

I'm conditioned to expect the worst from the GOP...but they've underperformed in every election since 2016. If Trump runs the gauntlet again, beats his rivals, and becomes their nominee  that's one thing. But to roll out a welcome mat for him NOW...that's just suicidal. Outside of the freak show MAGA vote, he's been awful for their ticket.

The last thing they need to do is bring more attention to the guy and they know it top to bottom.  The problem is their most reliable voters.  They're 100% brainwashed by right wing opinion shows and demand public spectacles and shows of fealty to Trump.  So, at the deep-red district House level they have to be this insane and dedicated to Trump or they'll get primaried but it completely screws them nationally.

There's some of this on the Dem side (see the progressives that called on an end to Ukrainian aid in the lead up to the election), but they're easily put down.  But on the right the inmates run the asylum so stunts like this actually have a chance.
