Self serve checkouts at the grocery store, kiosks for self ordering at fast food, Siri-styled AI for drive-thru orders, etc. It is all already happening. Democrats seem hell bent on accelerating it. I agree and I used to feel bad about it, but now I just want the Dems to pass this $15 minimum wage and let the carnage begin. They think they are doing these people a favor by forcing a minimum wage that high, but they really are not. A lot of these people will not have a job anymore as they will no longer be there. Technology and business will ALWAYS find a way to improve operations and lower costs. What is amazing to me is how nobody seems to want to believe this. The politicians are focusing on the stories of the people trying to feed a family of a low wage, but what happens when they no longer have that money because machines have taken over those jobs? Then you have the people themselves. There are so many different avenues out there to improve yourself - to learn a new trade, to get more schooling, etc. Yet people just want to continue to do what they do and not improve their lives until it is too late. All these lower end jobs are going to go away and what are these people going to do or where are these people going to go? I really hope I am either too old to care or living outside of this country by the time the civil war starts.

They may require people to learn new skills, but in my opinion, automation are just technological improvements and are a net benefit to society and the economy.

Stupidity seems to lead the way in this country and nobody wants to spend the time to learn new things. I mean take a look at these boards - how many posts would not even exist if the poster actually spend a minute researching what they are posting instead of just vomiting up the garbage that some idiot posted on Facebook or Twitter? If they don't even want to do that, how the hell will they learn a new trade, especially when technology is not the easiest thing in the world to understand?
March 1, 20214 yr As society gets more technologically proficient and overall wealth increases, the birth rate will correspondingly drop, thus I’d imagine it would eventually offset reduced labor needs. Of course, none of this will happen during our lifetimes because poors keep having kids, but hey, it’ll happen eventually.

What's worse is even when someone bothers to take the time to explain something in painstaking detail, people still disregard it entirely because they trust the meme Uncle Earl posted on Facebook more than an explanation spoonfed to them. I'll never forget arguing with opengeo on the old boards about how page rank works or how websites use tracking metrics. Regardless of how patient I was in explaining why unique visitors based on IPs was far more important than total aggregate page views, he was married to his preconceived notions and nothing was going to change his mind. At some point, all you can do is laugh and move on.

Geo has always been a conservative who dislikes the left. CVON seemed to put him in the uncomfortable position of trying to normalize things the right does under Trump. I think it became exhausting for him.

I know Trump is worse and I get ridiculed for the "both sides" thing but in a similar way there were Democrats in 2016 who didn't like Hillary and "held their nose" to vote for her because they hated Trump. There are always those who just vote the same party their whole life no matter what, and think the other party is evil and morally reprehensible. There are a lot of voters that vote D or R across all levels of government and don't even know the candidates. Now with Trump's presidency it's way worse; a cult and dangerous like nothing else we've seen. This showed the populist cult of personality we've seen in other countries and were thankful we have a good democracy in the US. That changed quickly and got this bad in basically one election cycle. The seeds have also been planted for decades of media propaganda that the Democrats are evil and way worse than the worst of the Republican party. I don't know what changes that culture.
March 2, 20214 yr What do actual conservatives do now? There really isn't a conservative republican party anymore and it doesn't look like there will be for the foreseeable future. Even if Trump should one day get bored and leave politics, how do you look at the current GOP for leadership, having seen what they've become the last 5 years?

You have a conservative media pumping out Trump/Q propaganda and officials still pushing the big lie. They're just going further and further toward fascism. I just don't see that party ever going back to traditional conservatism. And they apparently have no plans whatsoever to do so. It seems to be full steam ahead on the Trumpism train.

Keeping the dems in the center lane is really our only option right now.

Seems alive and well. I expected a little bit more of a fight against Trump, but not much more. This is the Republican party and will be for the next decade or two at least. His only opposition isn't even from elected party members, its from a think tank of pariahs. But damn you would have thought that stripped of all his megaphones there would have been a gang of Republicans that would have smelled weakness and attempted a coup on Trump's party (yes i did that). They are all scared stiff of him, he completely 100% owns the base.
March 2, 20214 yr Paul Gosar. GOP Scumbag. Of course, the GOP seems to be fine with such, very fine people. He used his pandemic proxy to avoid doing his job so he could speak to white supremacists. Nobody in the GOP says a word.
