October 25, 20231 yr Nice, a deshberry who tried to throw out an election is the new speaker. The wheels on this clown car. Stunning.

October 26, 20231 yr Welcome to the GOP. The party of kneeling down and sucking, swallowing, and pronouncing it the tastiest thing you've ever had.
October 26, 20231 yr He can believe in MAGA, just not dinosaurs and evolution. Those are crazy theories.

This may have been around when they were trying to put a creationist text book in schools in PA and the trial that took place. Back like in 2004. Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District This was the best docuseries I saw on the subject. Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial, a Public Broadcasting Service NOVA television documentary aired in November 2007. It features interviews with Jones, witnesses, and lawyers as well as re-enacted scenes from the proceedings (no cameras were allowed in court)
October 26, 20231 yr Here is what I don't get - why did the Dems in Congress vote along with Gaetz and his group to oust McCarthy? Seems that McCarthy was a more palpable option to them than Mike Johnson.

This is politics, not tiddlywinks.

This is politics, not tiddlywinks. It was a political miscalculation. Although for a couple of weeks there, nobody knew how this would shake out. I don't believe anybody would have thought that somebody like Mike Johnson would snag the gavel. And as to what Hunt said, his political views are skewed the right side, but he has something that has been absent from the political scene for quite some time now - a calm, courteous and pleasant demeanor. He comes off like a respectful, nice guy. In that way, Johnson is the anti-Trump at his core.

What are they supposed to do, become the GOP voice of reason?
October 26, 20231 yr Author I don't disagree that Johnson scares me in ways that Trump doesn't. He has the appearance of being competent, for one. Having someone competent who desires to undo the levers of Democracy and overthrow the will of the people is pretty frightening.

October 26, 20231 yr 1 minute ago, ToastJenkins said: Feed rope It was a crazy question. What possible benefit for the Dems would there be to propping up McCarthy?
October 26, 20231 yr Author As for whether it's a miscalculation, time will tell. Republicans could have easily decided to try for the middle and attempt to woo a small number of Democrats to support a firmly right-of-center house leader who doesn't lick Trump's boots - a guy like Emmer. That they chose instead to side with Gaetz and the fire-bombing idiots who caused this whole mess with no clear plan in place on who would replace McCarthy. It's clear that the Republican party is being led around by the most radical, insane members. The same is not so for Dems. It's a joke.

McCarthy showed that slight capacity to compromise at the brink. It maintains the status quo while McCarthy gets to fix Gaetz and his merry band of petulent children.

Seems that McCarthy was a more palpable option to them than Mike Johnson. McCarthy was actively trying to impeach (without a vote) the president and had made deals with democrats only to double cross them. He was a notorious liar and scumbag. There was no way they were going to save his arse even though his successor would likely be worse.
