The primary issue that no one wants to deal with is the completely broken asylum process. Under current laws, anyone who makes it to US soil can apply for asylum status and therefore is placed in a lengthy process. While the guidelines call for a 180 day process, the backlog means these routinely take 2-3 years. While in the process, the person is not detained and exists in a sort of legal limbo -- they aren't in the country legally, but they also can't be deported. If they lose their asylum hearing, they can apply for defensive asylum once removal procedures begin, further complicating and delaying things.

Reforming asylum laws is paramount for dealing with this issue, and no one is talking about it.

I have said from the beginning deport them lawfully but deport them ALL.
