Correct. So this is not the earliest we took a LB since McCoy. We took 3 or 4 LBs earlier than 103.

I get what you mean now. You’re right. We have taken a few guys. I’m stuck on McCoy and totally forgot about overdrafted Ike Reese.

Ike Reese has nothing to do with this. You clearly did not say what you think you said.

Yeah I admit that. I missed a lot players that were drafted ahead of this guy.

Akeem Davis Gaither was still on the board. I'm not buying Davion Taylor being BPA at LB but at least they tried to address the position. I thought he was someone that could be had in the 4th round with one of those comp picks, 3rd round is a bit rich for my blood here.

Good one

Huhn? What impact players are finished products coming out of the 3rd round?

Overall, a lot of their picks (present and past) are of the developmental or projectected type.

Kist and Solak are majorly down on this kid... Thoughts?

Confused by this statement. They are investing in speed which everyone wanted around these parts. Some of the fastest players in each position drafted so far 🙂

We also won a SB with this FO and have made the playoffs three straight years.

Some of the crap people here have been saying is so ridiculous. They really need a reality check smh.

Last year, they loved JJAW, and Solak hated the Sanders pick. So keep that in mind.

He did that with the draft last year in a RB deep draft, Pumphrey. At least he's consistent.

That wasn't last year. We got the wonderful Miles Sanders last year.

This guy does really good breakdowns.

Seems like the kid has the physical tools and does well recognizing what happens in front of him. Has some technique issues to work out, but a lot of positive things.

There’s a lot to like about this guy, I think. His versatility, speed/explosiveness, range, willingness to be physical. The fact that he hasn’t played a lot, means that there’s a lot of room to get better. There’s a large variance of outcomes I think. One of which is him being a steal.

Oh I always keep those things in mind. Not every scout and analyst is right on every player.

Another tape review of this guy, from a game against Oregon. It showed some flaws in his game, but also where he made disciplined play and was just let down by his teammates.

The play where he ran down the RB after a 10-yard head start was pretty amazing. I think it also shows that this kid knows his assignments and gets where he is supposed to be, which is something we were lacking from LBs last year.

After watching those two breakdowns, I feel a lot better about this pick. His technical flaws seem like easy fixes, and he can flat out fly. More importantly, he showed discipline and didn't just wildly fly around the field. He also has the size to take on linemen in the run game. The tape showed that he didn't get washed out by blockers, like what happened to Gerry a lot last year.

I think this is shaping up to be a nice pick. You never know how he will adjust to the NFL, but from the looks of it, the speed of the game won't be a problem.

They drafted Kendricks in the 2nd round in 2012.

Stewart Bradley - 87

Kendricks- 46

Hicks- 84

And technically Marcus Smith was a DE/OLB for Louisville so - 26

Don't forget about Chris Gocong at #71 in 2006.

Okay, go ahead and forget about him.

If he can play the run well then it's a good pick. NFCE has killer RB's. I hope he can.

If not, just another PAC-12 player who can't handle the physical part of the game.

It'll be interesting to see how he does vs Akeem Davis-Gaither career-wise.

Yes it will. Good point.

This was from PFF's evaluation of the Eagles' draft.

"Davion Taylor didn’t crack the top 100 on the PFF Big Board due to being relatively undersized and having little experience playing between the tackles, but our data scientists love Taylor as a prospect. In PFF’s analytics mock by George Chahrouri and Eric Eager, they had Taylor among the top-32 prospects, as he projects very well to the NFL. He’s an incredible athlete who you invest in — as Philly did at pick No. 103."

I don't find myself agreeing hardly ever with those two.

No? I think they speak sense though I don't take everything they say as spot on.

It seems like he's not afraid to mix it up with TEs and OLs, but when they do get their hands on him he does have trouble shedding the blocks.  As Tom says in his video evaluation of him that he wants to see him use his hands more to throw off blockers or at least get around them.  If he can learn to do that consistently then he could really turn into a good pick.  Another question is should he put a little more weight?  A NFL LB at 228 is on the light side.  Can he get up to 236-238 range without losing speed or burst?  Maybe they see him more as a passing down LB who can cover RBs/TEs and they're fine with him at 228?  But you are right in that if he does learn how to play the run well then he's a 3 down LB.  As Baldy likes to say, he has to get those violent hands going.
