Everyone I've talked to says they will not be following any gathering limits for Christmas. People are beyond done. They've pushed too much and too far and it's fallen on deaf ears at this point.

This virus is going nowhere. This virus is here to stay and is going to keep on mutating because that's what viruses do. We've got to get on with life at this point. If we lockdown this year then we will be locking down every year.

December 19, 20214 yr Quote Steering public attention away from the total number of infections and toward serious cases only -- as some Biden advisers have encouraged -- could prove a challenge after nearly two years of intense focus on the pandemic's every up and down. It is a part of a growing conundrum that Biden faces as the Covid-19 pandemic refuses to abate. "We're getting to the point now where ... it's about severity," said Xavier Becerra, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, in a meeting with reporters this week. "It's not about cases. It's about severity." Becerra said the issue recently arose during a meeting at the White House with Biden's Covid response team. Other officials also said the issue of how to refocus the public away from total cases toward the severity of illness has been an ongoing subject of discussion within the administration. "There's a degree of difficulty that now comes in trying to decide what means it's severe and what you have to do to stay out of that threshold of severity," Becerra said. "But I think that's where we're heading, is to try to be able to tell the public that." It has always been about levels of hospitalizations and mortality for me.

People will riot. So they have to slowly change the narrative.

That's not an accurate translation. It's not fiction that bodies were piling up in areas where this broke out earliest. It's not fiction that over 800k have died. But the virus has mutated. What were dealing with in late 2021 is different than what we dealt with in 2020. Omicron is a different foe. Some of that has to do with vaccinations, some has to do with natural immunities, and some of course the mutation itself. But so far it seems Omicron is more contagious but less deadly, so shifting focus from cases to hospitalizations makes sense. Honestly that should have been the focus all along, but even moreso now. Biden should be out there sending that message and calming fears. But he does suck, so I don't expect much. (He just sucks less than Trump, which is all I care about).

Yeah I don’t mean to downplay it. I’m just making the point of it’s hard to back off fully or too quickly at this point. They’re still driving fear even though we know omicron isn’t as deadly and is becoming the dominant strain. I’m not a huge Biden fan either to be honest. Way better than trump, but not great so far.
December 19, 20214 yr Many people will push back against focusing on other things than case numbers because that is how they push fear and it is profitable for many out there especially the media that gets bigger ratings

The problem they have are these groupS of people that profit from it lasting longer including news networks, they already pushed back on the NFL changing testing. They want this forever
