Here on base we were just told by the General that there will be 100% mask wearing again everywhere indoors and in cars (unless you're alone). There's also a restriction on occupancy at the gym, bx, dining facilities, etc. to 75%. The installation is 97% double vaccinated and in the past couple days 25 people tested positive. 

New Zealand gearing up for another lockdown and they've removed their planned initial border mini opening which was going to happen on Jan 17th but is now cancelled until further notice.  Australian States now in discussion as to what to do as their case rates are skyrocketing.  The PM has said "no return to lockdowns" but it is a State by State thing that decides.

Here in Sweden the medical authorities have just announced that proof of vaccination to enter larger public indoor spaces won't be enough now with Omicron.  We are likely going to go back to restaurants/bars closing at 8pm and all workers recommended to work from home whenever possible.  Still super low numbers here but many are predicting that to change quickly at some point.  Yesterday I was out on public transport in Stockholm and maybe 15% of people were wearing masks and lots of people out and about Xmas shopping.  We shall see...

Absolutely ridiculous this is. England is about to do something similar and it's beyond a joke. Omicron is thought to be less severe and the boosters offer good protection against it. Its ridiculous to lock things down and impose restrictions for a virus that will kill less than 1% of the population.

Right though we have never had anything close to a lockdown here and we won’t now either. The closest thing we have had is 8pm closings and no large events and that lifted last April. 

One of the guys I went clubbing with tested positive, the plot thickens!  This Omicron is friggin wildfire.  people around me are catching it left and right.  Our fave couples date is down for xmas with it also.

 

Just goes to show all those genius monday morning Qb who questioned the lockdowns.  At first there was real doubt about the first Covid strains being as contagious as this one, if it had been we would have seeing apocalyptic results.  It only takes a .05 to become a .1 and the numbers get out of control in a hurry.

 

Humanity has dodged a bullet if this weaker version is the hyperspreader and for it come out once we (or at least the not stupid) are vaxxed.

 

and yeah, at this rate, I do expect some lockdowns.  Omicron is absurdly contagious.

Yes, I remember seeing a report on it years ago. It was popular in poor parts of Ukraine/Russia because heroin was expensive and hard to come by. I think the process of making it somehow involved diesel fuel? The word krokodil is Russian for "crocodile," and the name comes from the drug turning people's skin black and scaly and peeling off.

Yeah.  My MIL has it.  She's in the highest of high risk categories since she's severely disabled from a car wreck many years ago.  She's half vaxxed and doing so-so right now.  If anyone I know was gonna die from this my money would've been on her.  My BILs have been in charge of her care and such.  If my wife and SIL had a say she would have been fully vaxxed and boosted by now but her brothers are Fing idiots.  Only reason she's half vaxxed is because she was in the hospital with a breathing problems in the fall and they slipped the first shot in there.  Of course the dipshits never followed through.

On the positive note, we're not going over there for Christmas dinner so I can sit around day drinking and smoking on Christmas day for the first time in 12 years.

Yeah I'm sure after the early morning festivities are done me and the wife will be getting plastered. I'll probably have a small prime rib delivered and spend my day smoking and BBQing way to much food for 4 people.
