Believe it or not, there are plenty of other offices that people run for besides POTUS

Might be too little too late. Sounds like omicron hit here faster than expected.

My best friend has it. Just fatigue and chills. Vaxxed, but hasn't gotten the booster yet.

Luckily his wife and kids didn't get it. They are from Hawaii originally, so the family flew to Oahu ahead of him, and he'll go when he tests negative. Hopefully he sees his kids on Christmas.

This thing sucks. Sorry man. Keep him rested, limit physical activity for a couple days even after he starts feeling better.

Yeah we made sure we were prepared if this happened to one of us. He is vaxxed so hopfully he just gets mildly ill.

Just for info, his first symptom was a sore and scratchy throat. Added a mild fever and he is very tired, gets dizzy if he moves to fast.

One of the guys I went clubbing with tested positive, the plot thickens!  This Omicron is friggin wildfire.  people around me are catching it left and right.  Our fave couples date is down for xmas with it also.

Just goes to show all those genius monday morning Qb who questioned the lockdowns.  At first there was real doubt about the first Covid strains being as contagious as this one, if it had been we would have seeing apocalyptic results.  It only takes a .05 to become a .1 and the numbers get out of control in a hurry.

Humanity has dodged a bullet if this weaker version is the hyperspreader and for it come out once we (or at least the not stupid) are vaxxed.

and yeah, at this rate, I do expect some lockdowns.  Omicron is absurdly contagious.

And absurdly mild, don't forget that part. Lockdowns for a weaker form of a virus that kills less than 1% of those who contract it. Just dumb.

That sucks man. Looks like you'll be daydrinking and bbq'ing!

Yeah. My poor kid is beating himself up pretty bad, he thinks he ruined everyone's Christmas as we were hosting for most of the family.

After a good rest I'm sure he will be ok. Wife and I will figure out a way to make it fun for the kids.

It's gonna come down to the hospitalizations.  If everybody under the sun has it, welp.

Awe. How old is he?

Great nephew (4) has the flu. Fam canceled a brunch this past Sunday.  I missed a good friends memorial service and had to reschedule my booster due to having bronchitis.  Week 3 of this crap.  It's getting better but still coughing and tired. No definite plans for Christmas just yet.  Probably visiting Thurs night and Friday night and home for the 25, 26, 27.

Guess we are all used to plans changing last minute.

has there been talk of new lockdowns?

I'm sure he'll be fine too. Kids are resilient. Got my son a PS5 and a bunch of games and we close our firm from Xmas Eve Eve until the new year, so I am looking forward to some quiet time hanging with him playing Madden, FIFA and some Spiderman next week.

And so far they look pretty low compared to the OG and the other variants.

Won't work.  Pretty sure we learned that the hard way.

Omicron just crashed a couple weeks ago.  As with every wave it takes a month or two for that to convert into mass hospitalizations.  Everything i've read so far is predicting record hospitalizations.  Yeah it's weak, but the amount of cases is expected to more than make up for it.

We got the PS5 like a month or so ago. I just gave it to them, it wasn't really an Xmas gift as I had promised to get it as soon as one was available. We just set up the basement into a gameroom/movie theater and that was the last piece. The Mile Morales Spiderman on the PS5 is pretty awesome.

I seriously doubt there will be hard lockdowns.  Curfews/capacity limits seem hard to avoid at this point.

He's 14. Both my kids were really looking forward to this Christmas as we moved in the spring to a much larger home and everyone was going to be here. But, as with most things it could be a lot worse. Once they get over the initial dissapointment they will be fine.

My sister in law has 2 small kids, 2 years and 9 months old, and her family was supposed to stay for the whole week. I feel probably the worse for her as she lives 4 hours from all the rest of us and has to find last minute accommodations. But again, things could be much worse.

Yeah that's what we got. I'm psyched to open it as much as he's gonna be on Saturday morning.

Yeah. I dont even play a ton of those types of games anymore, but I like watching them play.

We don't have much data on breakthrough cases with kids yet, but it wouldn't shock me if this was omicron already.

On Fox news, I'm sure.

They're happening in multiple parts of the world...it's not farfetched to think odds are they'll come back here at some point. You think everything is a conspiracy theory.

I'm not seeing that, most projections I've seen to date for hospitalizations seem to be roughly on par with original strain but far less than Delta. Still enough to prolong the pandemic, and hardly a mild cold like the trumpbots keep touting, but they were never good at math so not really surprising in that regard.

We never saw lockdowns with Delta despite the fear mongering on Fox News for months on end, but sure, this time they're really coming! Run for the hills, the evil Democrats are coming to lock you in your house and take your guns too!

i haven't heard any talk of new lockdowns in the us. sounds like faux outrage to be honest.

This time we have testing, we have vaccinations, we know treatments that can work. It's not the same dire scenario as it was in 2020. Even when we had "lockdowns", grocery stores and gas stations stayed open, restaurants were open for takeout, and bars sold drinks to go. Only non-essential services closed. I can manage for a few weeks. But I really don't think we're going back to 2020.
