You are lighter than 180, even with all those extra liquid calories every morning before you drive to work? You must not eat at all if that's true.

Per advice received the other day at the local clinic, GF took another rapid test this morning, and this one came back positive for 'rona. She's feeling much better. Symptoms are abating after 1-2 days of intensity, and she seems to be coming out the other side (thanks, Pfizer!).

@we_gotta_believe, what should the isolation protocol be? According to this, people are generally infective for about 6 days after symptoms appear (Omicron might be longer). So, would this mean that we should continue to isolate in-house until at least Monday if she came down with this on Tuesday afteroon? Do we need to wait for a negative test result before ending quarantine? In the article below, it also seems that rapid tests are actually the best way to detect high viral loads and whether or not someone is contagious.

So, the CDC guidance is that, if you're improving, you can end isolation but should keep masking for 5 days. This is the CDC's sneaky way of telling people "Yeah, you can still infect people, but get your ass back to work." What this tells me is that the previous 10-day isolation period is the safe bet for being around loved ones whom you definitely don't want to infect, so my understanding is that it would still be prudent to isolate at home for the 10-day period.

so...what's jury duty like during the rona pandemic?  <_<

Basically she needs to isolate until her rapids come back negative. Omicron typically hits and clears faster than Delta (hence CDC guidance changes) but it still can vary from what I understand. So even though rapids are not as sensitive as PCR, they're still a decent proxy for infectious period. In other words, a PCR may still come back positive 10 days later but that doesn't necessarily mean that person is still infectious (test may be picking up dead virus rather than viable virus) but a rapid is less sensitive, so more likely to pick up only viable virus, if that makes sense.

Not sure why they didn't simply say "isolate for 5 days and then return to work after testing negative" rather than basing it on symptoms which are subjective and still not as accurate for determining infectiousness. I had hoped they'd be better under a new director but doesn't look any better with still tons of poor guidance from them.

Here's a good graphic to show typical period of infectiousness

3rd.

I thought you guys were ahead of us on the boosters. I got my third a few weeks back. Hope you don’t feel bad. Knocked me out for about 36 hours.

Yup. Plus when you do it on a smoker you get that added flavor.

The flavor sounds nice. I don’t do filets much anymore. Sometimes I’ll just use my iron skillet for a cut like a strip or similar that has some fat on it.

She works really hard, so I make her much better meals than a sandwich. But you make sure to work twice as hard as normal today, to make up for me being completely unproductive.

I’m sure I did. Probably 10x more so you can drink with Lynched.

Go for the 21 day isolation and 45 no sex protocol just to be on the safe side. :P

I switch it up. Wife's fave is filet, me and my son prefer rib eye. I do the same with the pan when I cook thin cuts. Little butter, garlic and rosemary to finish.

And I appreciate you working so hard. As for drinking with lynched, I tend to avoid childish, old man drunks, so I'll pass. I save my drinking for the football games anyway.

My family waited a little bit for the first shot so we were a tad behind a lot people over here. We were scheduled to get boosted right before Xmas and then we all got the Rona.

I'm gonna test either today or tomorrow. I'm really curious to see the result, because I came home for lunch on Tuesday and hugged and kissed her, which was just about two hours before she started feeling sick. So, if I'm negative, I will be praising the vaxx gods.

I would most certainly praise them for being so gracious as to permit me to host the virus asymptomatically.

Congrats on getting rid of your aids. Now if you can just get them to do a dementia one, you'll be set.

Pass on my congratulations to her, would ya?

My kid texted me from school. There was a huge uptick in covid cases, tons of kids stayed home today. They were told to bring all their stuff home as they may have to switch to virtual for a few weeks (Atlantic County NJ).

Lots of good stuff coming out on BA.2 today. Continues to outcompete BA.1 in more countries, but while it appears more transmissible, no evidence that it's any better at escaping immunity (in fact it might even be worse at it than BA.1)

Most of it is aggregated in the thread below. Haven't had a chance to go through all of it yet, but passing it along in case anyone has a bout of insomnia tonight and needs something to put them to sleep.

Remember when people argued at the beginning of the pandemic that hospital data on Covid was including people who were hospitalized for other reasons who just happened to test positive and those people got called conspiracy theorists and some were banned from social media and then Fauci came on TV a month or so ago and said literally the exact same thing in response to the omicron wave and everyone just accepted it without batting an eye?

This happened locally about two weeks ago. My kids' school remained opened but some of the neighboring schools had to go virtual for two weeks. My school has been really good about masking and kids are staying home when they are sick. It seemed to hit the youngest grades the hardest: Pre-K, K, 1st...

We are really hoping if they do make the decision it's only for a few weeks.

@we_gotta_believe, should I get a PCR test, or is that unnecessary if you're asymptomatic? Could I possibly be contagious 5-6 days after exposure but without high enough of a viral load to register on a rapid test?
