Way ahead of you. I've already jammed a couple UV light bulbs up my ass for good measure.

@we_gotta_believe, should I get a PCR test, or is that unnecessary if you're asymptomatic? Could I possibly be contagious 5-6 days after exposure but without high enough of a viral load to register on a rapid test?

Sounds like you want napoleon's viral load. You realize you can google and get the same answers, right?

European countries are scrapping more and more restrictions every day. Another huge L for the "it's not mild" crowd.

Meh, there's a lot of crap to sift through, it's easier this way. At this point, I kinda want to know if I've been infected purely for the sake of curiosity.

You could have also asked Miickckemakc.

Don't have good numbers, but I'd say if you take rapid tests on days 4, 5, and 6, and all are negative (while also being asymptomatic the whole time) then I doubt you're contagious. But it's also not exactly a step function, there are gradients and whether you're contagious or not can depend on other factors like your viral load at a given time, how long someone else is exposed to you, whether they're vaccinated, etc.

Probably best to assume you're infected though and mask up until at least the 6th day from when you were last exposed to her if you're not gonna do a PCR.

If i were in your shoes, I'd probably get a pcr, but it also depends on how convenient it is. If you can't book one for 2 more days, and then the results won't come back until 3 days after that, it kinda defeats the purpose. But when i took one in the fall, it was a same-day type deal, and i got the result the next morning. In that case, yeah I'd probably get one done.

You are lighter than 180, even with all those extra liquid calories every morning before you drive to work? You must not eat at all if that's true.

Stop picking fights at preschools.

And I'm not in the mood for a shot, but I'm sure by now you have had several.

Are the 15-minute rapid tests that they do at the doctor’s office any different than the over-the-counter at-home tests?

Got one scheduled for tomorrow morning!

Her PCR just came back, actually, and it's obviously positive. That was a pretty quick turnaround.

Most likely the same but I haven't seen what they use at a doctors office, my kids had them done there once but my wife wasn't sure what type it was. But the at home tests are called lateral flow tests where you swab your nose, wring the swab out in a buffer solution, and then squeeze a few drops onto a test strip. I've heard there's also some saliva based ones when you spit into a tube but never seen one personally.

Is tomrrow too early, actually? It will have basically been exactly 4 days since my last exposure.

Think I answered my own question.

First:

But the Omicron variant’s symptoms seem to come much earlier: three days after exposure on average. Furthermore, emerging evidence suggests that people with Omicron can become contagious at least a day before symptoms appear. A January 5 preprint paper posted on medRxiv tracked 30 people during an Omicron outbreak and found that most were infectious several days before rapid antigen tests detected COVID.

Plus, even though I was last exposed Tuesday, I was exposed to her for longer periods of time on Sunday and Monday.

PCR is more sensitive so no need to wait for day 5.

Thanks. That what I figured but I wasn’t sure. Daughter had mild cold symptoms this week. Woke up with a headache Tuesday  and Wednesday l, and choked on drainage and threw up Thursday morning. All very typical for her starting a cold. Once she got up and ate she felt perfectly fine every day. We gave her an at home test (negative) and kept her home from school Thursday since she had thrown up. She did cartwheels and handstands all day. Took her to pediatrician this morning and they did a rapid test which came back negative and cleared her to return to school without a PCR test.

Also heads up... For those of you who ordered the 4 free tests from the gov site, make sure not to leave them in the mailbox for more than a few hours if it's below 36 degrees where you're at. The test strips lose accuracy if they are stored in cold temps for too long.

Mine were supposed to be delivered Monday but then got an update that they were out for delivery today. Just remembered to grab them now after they'd been out there since 4, hopefully they're still good.
