What are your thoughts and predictions on what Ontario will do before Labor Day?  My family has a cottage on Lake Erie in Port Colborne, and I would like to get at least a couple weekends in up there, like I have for pretty much every summer of my life.  I also have friends that run bars in Crystal Beach and Port Dalhousie, and I would like to visit them.

Port Dalhousie is a nice little spot. I haven't been to Port Colborne in years.

Honestly, I'm not sure what's going to happen. Outside of a couple hot spots (mainly Brampton and an area down by Windsor), the number of new daily cases has plummeted. The problem I see for you is if they open up the border to non-essential travelers or not. Considering the recent explosion of cases throughout the US, I have my doubts that they'll open it up any time soon. The Ontario government has taken a fairly slow and calculated approach to re-opening and I don't think they'll want to jeopardize the progress that's been made.

Even if restrictions were loosened to allow Americans with property in Canada to go over, that may be enough for me to get across.  I can get some time on the lake in, and legitimately check in on and take care of our family property.

It's definitely possible. I think you'll have a good idea of what to expect before the end of July. Ontario has been rolling out its re-opening plans in 4-6 week phases. Phase 2 was introduced about two weeks ago, so if cases remain low for the next 2-4 weeks, we should end up entering Phase 3 by the middle/end of July. It's impossible to know right now what Phase 3 will include, but looking back at Phase 2 it loosened restrictions on the size of gatherings (from 5 people to 10), and allowed more businesses to open (hair salons, sit-down restaurants on patios only, etc).

2 grotto pizza locations in nepa have closed their dining rooms due to 3 different employees testing positive.  i think this is going to be the new normal going forward.  sporadic shut downs due to outbreaks.

Since Grotto has a stand right on the midway this made me think about the Bloom fair.

Depending on how things go I don’t know if it should do on, but then again it takes place in a conservative area.

The virus spreads more easily in a confined space, which makes sense. The respiratory droplets in the air have no escape.

The US is doing so poorly because too many of its citizens don't believe in the science. Some actually turn masks into a religious debate.

It is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Donovan’s Reef Beach Bar in Sea Bright was packed with a mask-free crowd on Saturday night at the Jersey Shore.

That's a lot of people.  I am not understanding these kids not realizing they can and probably will spread it to older people who may very well get really sick and possibly die.  How do you get that message through?  Knock them all upside the head with a baseball bat?

Maybe if our moron of a president would set an example to his people and wear a mask they would believe wearing one was a good idea. Instead he wants to look tough by not wearing one and has somehow managed to turn wearing a mask into a political issue.

and I realize there are plenty of stupid young Dems out there not wearing a mask either. Lots of stupid to go around in this country.

My area is a strong republican area with a older than average population. For about the first month most people were wearing masks out. Unfortunately that didn’t last and now I would guess about ten percent of people in stores have one on. I actually had someone yell at me in Lowe’s last weekend for wearing one and believing the hoax. Another person refused to stand back in line and stayed about a foot behind me. When I asked him if he minded backing up a bit he laughed and said "Yea I do ****ing mind”.

This is in Florida though so I guess I should expect it.

Well one of the first counties to open was out in Pittsburgh and they are now shutting down bars again.

Something to keep an eye on cause that can change if the outbreak gets big enough and it mutates but good news for now

Pssh...They're actively trying to correct the Social Security and Medicare deficit issue that will face their generation.  I applaud their drunken debauchery.

The good Dr's are speaking/testifying at a hearing today.  Will listen to see if they have any new information.

Kids don't understand mortality, by and large. Leadership starts at the top and at the top of the US is a president who doesn't wear a mask (his people are tested every day) and encourages others to follow suit.

There should be a national mask law and it will have to be enforced. Nothing else will work. It might be too late already. We are looking like no second wave, just the big one that just about every other civilized nation managed to avoid.

Not really.  It is tragically hilarious however how all of the COVID hot spots in the world have one unifying theme.  Not geography, population density, weather or form of government.  Brazil, Russia, Great Britain, even India happen to all have leaders who count themselves among Trump's few international friends.  All macho wanna be dictators who think mask wearing and staying at home is for namby pampy's.

Never gets old. The dead might disagree.

I think it was Sen. Romney who asked, how are we going to know if someone had it on a plane?  In a restaurant, bar? A bus or a train?   Even with contact tracers, the general public isn't being made aware of what and why this is happening.  I feel like people are not going to comply with restrictions, obviously they aren't going to wear a mask, and with all the unknowns still, I do believe it's going to get worse before it gets better.  I hope it doesn't come back to NYC and PHL starts on a decline. I don't see it happening though.  We are too free to move around as we want.  Which is a good thing of course, just not enough smart ones to know to stay away from people for another year!

Of all of the sell outs and stooges, Rand Paul has had the biggest fall. What a complete and total toolbag.

Some possible good news from Sweden today.  A study at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm showed that the rates for people with at least partial immunity to COVID was triple the rate for those testing positive for antibodies.  The study is under review and possibly too small to be conclusive but if the numbers were to be correct and applicable it would mean some level of immunity in as much as 40% of the Stockholm population.

Fingers crossed...

I used to think he had potential.  Now he's just another political stooge.
