We really need to start focusing on more important things, like eradicating this Karen and Kevin pandemic.

I guess I’m just in the minority in thinking the masks aren’t nearly as effective as they say they are or wish them to be.  I’ll accept that I’m in the minority.  I’m not saying it’s not smart or doesn’t help at all (unless you’re wearing the type that blow germs into the air as I described above).

im also very frustrated with the lack of any answers we have gotten.  The doctors don’t know much more about it than they did in February.  They have advanced some treatment methods but don’t have a legit answer and consistent treatment.  The vaccine trials may end up being an epic fail.  Fauci even said they may not be successful with them. But they’re trying all sorts of things to increase their odds.  Can you imagine if they don’t figure it out and have to start all over?  Meanwhile we suffer - health, mental and physical, society, economically.  It all continues to suffer.  It’s so damn frustrating.

Yeah I guess you are.  Virtually every medical and public health society emphasize masks and IMO for good reason.  Even if they were something crazy low like 10% effective in stopping spread, due to the somewhat exponential nature of viral spread could have translated to a significant impact on our ultimate numbers and disease course.

Agree this whole process is frustrating. Unfortunately this is going to be a marathon. I hope that minimally invasive measures like masks, tracing, distancing, limiting crowds, take out, hand washing etc can prevent us from being forced into more invasive measures like lockdowns again.  I don't think most of America could handle that.

Lol its crazy. Like even if you are anti mask or whatever, why must you act like this. These poor people working at the dentist office don't need to deal with this woman. They didnt start a pandemic or even come up with the idea to require masks.

It's honestly embarrassing to watch. I'd need a paper bag over my head, let alone a mask, if I ever acted like that in public or treated someone at a dentist's office in that manner. Yes masks suck. They're hot and uncomfortable. We get it and we're all experiencing it too. But throwing a temper tantrum over wearing one or getting your temperature taken before someone is about to work on your disgusting mouth is beyond pathetic.

It's just a complete lack of respect and consideration.

This is how dumb Florida is.

Governor refuses to make a mask mandate. Says counties should decide.

Counties refuse to make  a mask mandate, say it should be at a city wide level.

Ft Myers refuse to make a mask mandate, even though when reached out to residents, 78% say they want masks mandated. Say it should be at a business level.

Really. A little empathy and cooperation is too much to ask? Everybody has had to adjust. We all have do a little more these days. If you don't want to wear a mask or get your temperature taken, don't go to the dentist. Stay home.

Nobody wants to take responsibility. There's the problem.

Yup. And the major businesses like Target, Publix etc reached out to the Governor saying they want masks mandated but want him to issue the order. Its the circle of death.

LOL

I don't mean to pile on since like 3 other people are already engaged in this. But your point seems to be that masks can't guarantee safety to a 100% certainty, therefor you mistrust states making them a law or requirement.

But laws in general don't 100% guarantee anything, they serve as a tool to help a large portion of society.

Masks help to lower the odds spreading the virus. Bullet proof? Absolutely not. It's a piece of cloth.

Not necessarily mistrust - I think they misrepresent the effectiveness and there are a lot of dumb people out there thinking that they fix everything, and there is no standard mask meaning my mask, if it’s made of toilet paper and bandaids, doesn’t protect you to the level that yours, made of coffee filters and silly string, protects me.  Maybe if there was more of a "hey THIS mask is what you should have and they give x level of protection” it would be better but then people would sue when they get sick because of false claims so they just say cover your face with anything.  It’s a joke when you really stop to think about it.

It is frustrating. But doctors have come a long way since February treating the disease. For instance, they now know anticoagulants can help. They're learning more every day. It is unlikely they will hit a homerun the first time at-bat with a vaccine, but give them a chance. It's still early in the game and it's going to take time. How long did it take to get a polio vaccine? Measles? They're moving really fast.

Keep wearing masks in public and limit contact with others to slow the spread. Nothing is foolproof but it's the best chance we got. All we can do is give them time.

Can’t compare to measles and polio, it’s an entirely different era of medicine.  We are far more advanced now than back them.  I’m not saying it’s an overnight fix, but every damn day they change their tune with what medicines work, what doesnt, what symptoms are, what the virus does to the body, etc.  we’re 6 months into this.  And zero legit answers.

I really fear that we will be forced to lock down again and I don’t even want to think about how screwed we will be then.

thanks for listening to me vent guys.  Believe it or not, coming here helps my mental health 😆

What's the goal with all this crap? I know the "LIBERATE MICHIGAN" stuff was about getting people to pretend there wasn't a pandemic sweeping across the land so they'd go out and spend money.  Is this just an attempt at creating a wedge issue? Like we're gonna divide ourselves into Pro-Sending Kids into a Pandemic camps and Anti Sending Kids into a Pandemic camps?

This has 100% been politicized now. They got bored with masks so moved onto the next subject.

Just kick the can down the road and make someone else deal with it. Problem solved!

I feel for business owners. Most are already reeling from the pandemic and now they and their staff get to be the de facto mask police because various levels of government don't want to touch it. As if business owners and essential workers haven't been through enough ish already, they now get to deal with the Karen's and Chad's of the world because they're too proud to put a piece of fabric over their ugly mugs.

Sheesh. And the "next subject" is getting parents to use their kids as guinea pigs. That'll play well in the suburbs.

You know, I'm on the side of "It's not that harmful to children" camp but the way this is being pushed while things are still completely out of control is really disgusting.

Agreed. And I can't speak for all teachers but I haven't heard one yet say they DON'T want to be in the classroom. The end of the last school year was extremely stressful for them too, not just parents who had to help their kids from home. All they want is to go back safely. But instead, all the districts are just being told "figure it out. Make it work."Like, this shouldn't be that hard.

If you can't even do a summer camp that is mostly outdoors, why are we even arguing about schools?

I'm not sure that's really feasible though. There's so many factors to consider

It's not. That's why all the schools were more comfortable doing some type of hybrid schedule. That's why they spent the last two months coming up with plans, but now are having to scramble because the pressure of full capacity, 5 days a week is being put on them.

At least someone admits it, watch the way the some in the media talk you would think it is no big deal even in hot and humid weather. But these people are all frauds, I was watching CNN for a few minutes, they went outside to a reporter...well he wasn't wearing a mask but when he realized he was on air he quickly pulled the mask over his face. I can't breathe in a mask so instead of throwing a tantrum I order things online instead of going into a store or use drive-throughs. No need to worry about work for now. Not sure why some idiots get upset about the temp check, I am fine with that if need be. Also There some who want us to wear masks forever

The outlook is not good for schools

I was reading something a few days ago I think it was on the CNN site, some "experts" were asked about masks and a few said we should always wear masks in public places and no more hand shaking even after a vaccine is found. I will look for the article later
