Oh well

Anyone else notice when MAGA morons attempt to explain the reasoning for their deification of Trump it takes a huge post to do it?

Like... it would be a red flag for me if it took a million characters of word vomit to justify why I'm not crazy for voting for someone.

My reply was implying that it's absurd to act like adults need the president to make up their minds. The president (in this case Trump) represents the views of a lot of Americans --- views that in many cases likely conflict with your own. That doesn't mean he shouldn't still represent the people that voted for him. Many of you keep trying to paint a picture that Trump says something and his sheep follow. As witty and clever as those retorts are every single regurgitated time, they are inaccurate and actually have me wondering just how many of you are buying it yourselves.

Trump behaves like Trump because that's who he is. He's not a politician like people are used to. I'm not a fan of his personality, but some of his bluster is refreshing at times. He certainly deserves criticism when criticism is warranted, but people don't always give him a chance and just shell out blame at him for things he can't control. For example:  He has literally been blamed for a "culture of lies." Obviously, he's not always truthful. But this "culture of lies" --- according to my estimates has been around for ... oh ... nearly as long as mankind walked the earth. Please tell me I didn't need spoiler tags for that ...

But with a pandemic, we're not talking about views any more than we'd have "views" on a hurricane or an earthquake. This isn't gun rights or abortion....you think one way, I think another way, and we both hope the president we vote for supports our cause. This is a natural disaster, and sacrifices have to be made in the short term to save us in the long term. So when our president refuses to wear masks, and gives quotes in interviews that people wear masks "as a protest against him", that's not representing a view that conflicts with mine. It's denying reality in a way that makes this pandemic last longer, damaging all of us, no matter who we vote for. The same with the "LIBERATE MICHIGAN" stuff. The same with this past week's attempts at reopening schools. We've graduated past the point of simple political differences — I dislike putting Mexican kids in cages, you say it's the law. I dislike Trump pardoning his buddies, you say the whole justice system is conspiring against him.

We're at the stage where a very real virus is sweeping through the country...130,000 deaths since like...March. Four or five months. And Trump's main agenda is reopening the economy because it'll improve his poll numbers. But the blatantly obvious, knock-you-across-the-head reality is there is no "reopening of the economy" if a virus is rampaging from coast to coast. This is no longer a cutesy little game of political football, you and I tossing the ball back and forth. This isn't politics as usual. And yes, leadership, and stability, and messaging, and science matter here. I don't need a president to make up my mind for me. I need him to mobilize the government in a way that addresses the unpleasant reality in front of all of us. And he's incapable of doing that because it would be "breaking character." Like Andrew Dice Clay, he has one act, and he can't do anything else. That's the problem. Not politics.

His bluster is about as refreshing as a wet fart in an elevator. Sorry, he's a moron and anybody who doesn't have a problem with this guy representing our country has issues.

All the mandates, suggestions, closures, etc... have been designed to do is "slow down" the spread. Are they even saying it's possible to wipe this thing out? The vaccines could begin rolling out next year, but there won't be enough for everyone. Even less certain is how long they would remain effective (a few weeks - a few months). People would likely have to get the vaccine more than once a year. Then we'll have to see if mutations change it positively or negatively. Whether we agree or disagree with his actions, I fail to see how they make this pandemic last longer.

Yeah ... I'm gonna have a hard time believing that if Trump's covid reaction had been the opposite this whole time, that his "critics" would actually be praising him for it now instead of pushing the same, tiring anti-trump narrative they had committed to for the past 3.5 years.  Sorry.

I’m not saying they would. My point is there are still idiots who think it’s a hoax, not that bad, and it’s all just a conspiracy to get Trump out of office. Trump retweeting all those things will only cement that opinion in them. Like let’s try to get this under control before pushing all those narratives.

You fail to see how his anti-mask stance and "maybe it’ll go away on its own” beliefs and pressure to reopen economies and schools make a pandemic last longer?

I’ll explain - although we won’t get to zero - we want fewer people exposed to the virus.

Starting this past Jan, that became a deciding factor as well.

I fail to see how his actions make it last longer when the whole point is merely to "slow it down." It's not going to go away any faster by doing anything other than isolating everybody in the world for 30 days at the same time.

Hilton’s will have them in the rooms, along with other accessories and weights, and a kiosk full of workouts.  Other hotels will follow but Hilton is ahead of the game.

Yeah. But then I have to stay at a Hilton. Pass...

It's funny... trying not to paint with a broad brush here, but I've noticed a large number of anti-mask people like to peddle the line "our freedoms don't end where your fear begins." Yet, it seems like these people buy into every wacko conspiracy theory and slippery slope fallacy imaginable. Who are the ones pushing fear again?

/end observation

If everyone wore masks when in crowded spaces, it would absolutely significantly decrease the spread of the virus.  100%.  It wouldn’t just "slow it down”.   We could essentially eradicate it.  When I say eradicate, obviously this doesn’t mean down to 0, but it means down to such a small number that we could go back to life basically as normal.  No delays in school, sports back, removal of dread risk from society, etc...

(and this doesn't really even need to be said, but....)   Like almost every other country in the world has managed to do.
