He is completely reactive and tactical, and cannot even see one move ahead at this point. He has no ability to think strategically beyond some reflexive need to blame others and pretend things would be fine if we just ignored the problems. Voters wanted a president to run govt like a business. The problem is that picked a crap 'businessman' who was bailed out and enabled by daddy and who never developed any actual ability to solve problems beyond lashing out and blaming others. The really frustrating part is I have always thought electing someone with a more diverse background beyond being a politician could be valuable. It's why I was such a fan of Romney despite some policy differences -- the man built Bain Capital into a massive success. It's always infuriating to watch politicians talk about business or the economy -- the level of ignorance is staggering. But of course, thanks to the facade created by Mark Burnett, we elected a lazy, moronic and terrible businessman, and now the chances of us ever electing someone from the private sector again are about nil.

Here's what I'm expecting - he'll have the discipline to get through one or two of these things professionally. He's aware that this is his chance to reframe his reputation with voters. And then, like a cat who spots a squirrel on the front lawn, he'll lose all chill and forget why he started doing this again, and immediately devolve to calling everything fake, and pondering the efficacy of sage and crystals.
July 20, 20205 yr Can someone explain to me like i'm an idiot. Wouldn't the easiest, slam dunk, almost complete guarantee to win in November for Trump would be to actually get Covid under control and take it seriously? Not that it's an easy task, but wouldn't that be like the most basic a** strategy even if the economy tanks instead of pretending it doesn't exist while the economy tanks?

Yeah. I'm taking the under. I'm slamming the under until the odds move. He'll melt down after 2 questions.

You have more expectations that I do. I figure he'll go off track within the first 10 minutes of speaking. If there is questions from reporters he is toast. The funny thing is as everyone has pointed out had he aligned himself with scientist and Fauci in April he'd be having a better reelection chance. Being him he can't share the limelight so can't have that. I expect these to be the ish show they were. I'm sure it'll be meme's daily coming from him.

No way he gets through 10 minutes of one before going off. Did you see his shower rant a few days ago? He is so undisciplined. He can't control himself. The media gives him softballs and tees it up and he instead says that's a nasty question and you're a terrible reporter. If he gets to two questions I'd be shocked. Unless he only takes them from OAN and EMB Trumpbots.

His problem is that he's a poorly written character. Other presidents can pivot from their "brand identity" into something empathetic or tough or whatever the country needs as events happen. Trump can only do the "Economy-focused tough guy" routine. A smarter person would say, "Everyone knows I'm all about the economy...so if i sacrifice 'my economy' to save lives, they'll know I'm looking out for them." Trump doesn't have the smarts (or confidence) to pull off such a move, so he tells obvious lies to save the economy. Which won't save the economy...because people won't spend money or work the same ways during a blatantly obvious pandemic. At least not until they can trust their government.

Even the quickest way to restart the economy is to get the virus under control and take it seriously. Trump did the opposite. I don't get it either. There's a lot of things I don't understand about Trumpism.

He had Birx running around the WH telling him exactly what he wanted to hear, which was that cases would peak sometime in April and then disappear. Also, you have to think like Trump. In order to do that you have to imagine you are a 5 year old and someone tells you one of the worst things in the world is about to happen to you. What do you do? The correct answer is to cry and scream, blame someone else, and then go lock yourself in a closet because it can't get you if you can't see it.

OK, here's a non-smart arse answer. You have to understand that what makes Donald Trump a horrible investor and terrible business man is he lacks any ability to assess or analyze any scenario other than the best possible outcome. Great investors weigh risk vs. reward and generally put more weight on the risk side -- think of it like playing non-limit hold 'em, you never bet all your chips unless you have certainty. Trump can't assess risk -- he has never been able to. Is that because he has always been bailed out, by his father, then bankruptcy courts and banks and finally by Mark Burnett? Or he is just a ridiculous optimist? I'm not a psychologist, but suffice to say that DONALD TRUMP CAN'T EVALUATE RISK AT ALL. The best example is when he built the Taj Mahal. He sold junk bonds at 14% to finance the insane construction costs. Everyone warned him that it would be impossible for the property to earn enough to service the debt. But Trump didn't care -- he was going to build the most fabulous, expensive, ludicrous casino in Atlantic City, and the cash flows would just magically appear. And of course they didn't, and the Taj went bankrupt almost immediately. But Trump wasn't going to listen to all those pessimists with their rational explanations about how no casino could possible handle the interest costs -- he just ASSUMED it would all work out, like everything else in his life. So, he just ASSUMED COVID would go away. He heard someone say the warm weather would end it, and he latched onto that, and he would hear nothing else.

So, this guy with his polling and his staff who has their fingers on the pulse of their community says things like this, and there's an audience that says, "Yep...it's about time someone said this!"??
