Seasonality doesn't mean it goes away in the summer, it just means it can spread easier in the winter. This is mostly applicable to particular climates, and is most likely due to the changes of absolute humidity in the indoor air of homes/buildings.

He said it didn’t matter what the climate was, it had zero impact on the spread rate in testing.

The thing is it really isn’t funny at all. You’re making fun of a situation that has killed a couple hundred thousand Americans so far. I remember when you laughed at both me and TEW back in late January for suggesting this thing could actually kill a 100k or more.

I'm not laughing at the current situation we're in, I'm laughing at you because you're a joke.

And yes I was wrong on how insidious this contagion was back in February. I changed course two months later and admitted my mistake once I saw how easily it was spreading within our borders. You, on the other hand, seem resigned to avoiding a simple question about masks. I wonder why that is.

That's not how the mutation of this coronavirus works. This ain't the flu, which ironically works to our advantage in this regard.

You are insane. Get yourself committed.

It is mutating faster than the flu actually. That’s not being widely reported.

Would be curious to see what testing he's referring to. After all, the recent spike in cases is quite telling on its own.

Calm down snowflake.  We've got tons of people who won't take a rushed vaccine, and plenty of doubts as to how effective said vaccines will be.

The inevitable result is HERD IMMUNITY.

To understand the virus they isolate it and test it - see if it dies in cold temps, multiplies in warm environments etc.  pretty standard stuff.

The degree of mutation matters and it's not comparable to the flu in this regard because there are different types of influenza viruses, not just strain variants.

Oh so you aren't just an idiot when it comes to polling and statistics.

Interesting...

Not sure why you keep putting it in all caps, but pushing for public policy to reach herd immunity without a vaccine is outright insane. Millions would die that otherwise would not have had to. I would consider it evil for those who truly understood the epidemiological aspects of the current situation and still advocate for such lunacy.

Where did you see me "pushing"?  What I've been saying is that it is the most likely outcome of the current situation.  Same as with thousands of other pandemics throughout human history.  It is what it is.

I’m not comparing it to the flu in any way really other than to make the point that it is mutating and there are more variations of it now than what you would expect to see in the flu in a given period.

Don’t take that to mean I’m saying it’s a flu virus and works like it and would be handled the same way from a vaccine standpoint

Link?

I've read numerous studies that point to a strong correlation where your friend claims there is none.

No link this is just what he told me.

Thousands of pandemics didn't have modern medicine. Get some leeches next time you have a fever, don't be selective about which medical practices you want to carry over from the dark ages.

Have him give you the source of these tests next time you talk to him.

I doubt very much his drug company would allow him to share testing data....but I mean a Google search can tell you climate has no impact un-rumour-tracking-english-issue-2.pdf?s

Well yea but at least we wouldn’t have to put a piece of cloth on our faces anymore.

Take heart in the fact that the phase III trial data will likely show if these mutations are significant enough to defeat the antibody responses enabled by the current candidates. We'll be getting a ton of data dumps over the next several months, so we'll know soon enough with a high degree of confidence if that's the case.

If we're betting on horses, my money is on Novavax's candidate (nvx-cov2373) as being the most effective but a bit further behind in trials. As for speed, mrna-1273 from Moderna is likely to get approval first. BioNTech's bnt-162b2 might be a close second.

From talking with him the confidence is not high within their company.  2 major companies pulled trials recently, one has started back up due to illness and I think a death.  AZ was one of them.  Look I hope they figure it out, but I am not hanging my hat on it nor am I signing up for it.  To each their own and I’m not an antivaxxer but just not sold on there being a quick fix like they promise.

Wouldn't finding a treatment that lowers your chances of dying from it be just as effective? I see a lot of talk about vaccines and not much on the treatment front.

Yeah I feel like a "tamiflu” type Of treatment makes more sense.

I’m not a virologist obviously but he dumbed it down enough to understand that they’re losing the battle.  Data is shared amongst companies so there is a team effort to solving it and they would all get the code so to speak and all work to mass produce it.  This is govt money at work so they don’t get to patent it and own it.  The good news is that they have an abundance of resources and an ability to mass produce very quickly.  There’s no concerns with making it, storing it or distributing it whenever or if ever they figure it out.

For the mrna types, there definitely is because the vials need to be stored in transit at -20 to -50 C or something crazy like that. Dry ice might be in very short supply and despite what Trump says, this is not a problem the military can wave a wand to solve.

For the neutralized / attenuated virus types, making enough doses on the order of hundreds of millions is a massive challenge. Thus those vaccine types don't scale well for global pandemics like this.
