Thank you that was a genuine question. I'm trying to stay as informed as possible so I can shut idiots up when they spew their nonsense. Lol

No worries.  Its effectiveness is definitely less when people are non-compliant and cases are super high.  But they're certainly still helpful in curbing the spread.

My company does their own contact tracing and it's usless since most of the employees and customers are walking around with the mask on their chin or below their nose. I still see people multiple people everyday touching everything, hugging, shaking hands sitting side by side at lunch or in the office.

That's just in a small town in a small grocery store chain. I can only imagine how bad it is nationwide

I think it's bad all over.

My office has been triaging people with upper respiratory infection symptoms to do remote visits to limit exposure. If we think they need a strep or flu swab we do it in the car with full PPE.  Only if they're asthmatic or have signs of respiratory distress do we bring them into the office so we can better assess.

SO many people are lying to us about symptoms or close contacts so they can come in office.  Sometimes it's not even for a sick visit, they'll come in for a physical and the parent is super sick or they'll tell us they had a recent exposure.  It's infuriating.

Damn man, that does sound horrible. Sorry you have to have all that stress on you.

We have people lie and come into work sick because they can't afford to stay home for a day. So they rather come in and put the whole store out and screw everyone over

Exhibit #98567 for why we've needed an appropriately large stimulus package for months now.

My wife is an OBGYN and has so many pregnant women come in complaining that "they did everything right!" and "don't know how this could happen" and in the same breath talk about the baby shower they had a week or so back.  Same people who then complain that the hospital is forcing them to labor with a mask on if they're positive.

3 docs in her office have tested positive already and even more MAs.

Yes, I would be fine because I'm management I do ok. However, the majority of the workers that make up a grocery store are not getting paid enough to survive being out of work for even a day.

Corporate will not pay you if you go out with covid but, tell people they can't even come in with a cold. They are setting themselves up for people trying to work through being sick.

Dr. Kent also revealed that CDC delayed the publication of a scientific article to ensure that it would not be released until after Dr. Redfield’s July 31 testimony before the Select Subcommittee.

At the July 31 hearing, Dr. Redfield testified that he believed schools should reopen for "face-to-face learning” in September 2020 and noted, "There’s really very significant public health consequences of the school closure.”  He did not mention the CDC study, which found that the virus spread widely among children at a summer camp in Georgia.  The hearing ended at approximately 12:45 p.m., and CDC released the report approximately 15 minutes later, at 1:00 p.m.

putting lives at risk.  lock all of those mf'ers up.

Seeing this is a thread about the virus, I'll post here. So far, I've had three family members (my great-niece/Goddaughter, one of my brothers and his daughter) and a family acquaintance come down with it.

Needless to say, I've been staying nearly completely isolated from nearly all of society since March (due to my mother's cancer and me being her sole caregiver) ... actually, since maybe February when things began to look like they were going to get bad.

Hope all are doing OK now VA.  Bless you in your caregiving.  It's a tough job. Please remember to take care of yourself too!  If it's any consolation, society sucks right now anyway!

Remember this broad?  I’m never not thinking about the way her voice trails off at the end

Hope everyone is recovering well and you guys are staying safe. It's been an incredibly frustrating year but certainly worse for people with high risk loved ones at home. Stay strong. Hopefully we're coming to the final stretch.

Thanks, everything's going ok... pretty much 'status quo'. Went to chemo yesterday, so chemo sickness won't start until Saturday (usually) but they lowered the strength this time because the previous round was pretty hard on her. So we have to see how it goes this time around.

As for society, I stopped watching nearly all news back when this virus began to overtake all coverage. I tend to only watch old sitcoms right now. I've been working my way through "Coach", which was such a great series! If anyone here hasn't ever watched it, they really need to. I think I'll start re-watching 'Frasier' next.

The "for your entertainment" section has a lot of solid show recommendations if you're looking for something new.

I finished watching the most recent season of 'The Crown', last week. It was interesting, but mostly all about Diana... which is understandable. She pretty much dominated the news in the 80s (in terms of the Royal family).

I may begin re-watching the 2017 Eagles season, since there was no NFL season this year.

uh oh.  Daughters district who was gong to hybrid this week decided to stay virtual this week, but yesterday said they are going hybrid next week.

So much back and forth.  I wonder if he'll say anything about schools or leaves each district alone to do their thing.

If he recommends telecommuting, I just may do it.  Again.

Most of the data I've seen is that schools can have outbreaks, but given the structured nature/physiology of kids/whatever reason they haven't been as big of a source of systemic spread as stores/restaurants/rallies etc.  Granted I have pretty bad data fatigue right now so I'm not completely up to date on all the studies right now.  But hopefully schools can stay hybrid. Fingers crossed for parents out there.

I hate the fact that Guiliani is out of the hospital after, what, four days? All this does is show people who think Covid is "nothing" continue to spout the same nonsense. There is no way Rudy got "normal" treatment. He had to have gotten the same cocktail Trump received. At his age and with his health problems, he should not be 100% healthy this fast.
