You don’t withhold medical aid during a pandemic which will get hundreds of thousands of people killed (and put your own country at risk of reinfection) because of a bad leader unless you’re a psychopath. Cold War is war. As Herm Edwards says, "You play to win the game”. I don’t see us rushing ventilators to Iran even though most of their people are innocent in all of this.
May 8, 20205 yr I'm fine staying home another month just because of my own personal situation. I didn't realize the amount of deaths in PA are in long term care homes. Most of them already have protocols for flu. I think it was the downplaying when it first arrived and the workers coming and going that most definitely contributed to these outbreaks. It is very sad. When you talk about people not going to the ER, I wonder when the medical community will start "seeing" their patients again? While I was waiting outside the hospital yesterday the ambulatory care lot seemed to have a few cars so I conclude they are doing some surgeries now. A week ago, the lot was empty. It's been hard not being able to be with Mr. Di during his visits and treatments. Even for myself, I am unsure if I will see my oncologist in June as scheduled or if it will get pushed or changed to a phone call. I'd rather "see" a doc.

May 8, 20205 yr The problem is, many governors were way too late to react, and a lot of damage was done. And now they’re over-correcting the other way because of this. There’s no reason things can’t open up right now provided that: 1) everyone is wearing a mask when in public spaces 2) physical distancing is maintained where practical 3) people practice sound hand hygiene #1 being the most important.
May 8, 20205 yr I tend to agree @Phillyterp85, though I think densely populated areas understandably should have more restrictions. I think most of the state falling under the guidelines in the "yellow" or orange PA level is sensible. Continue to operate remotely where you can, minimize conduct outside the home as much as possible, and when going out wear a mask. For restaurants, I'm not as sure. I could see opening up dine-in under different rules where occupancy is limited by square footage to ensure distance, but if you're going to open restaurants people won't be able to consistently wear masks. I'd like to say people take their own responsibility there, but people are dumb and additional spread is quite possible if we're too lax.
May 8, 20205 yr For right now, even if everything were to open back up today, I’m not doing anything differently.
May 8, 20205 yr A friend of my brother in law just died of Covid. He's 30, so I'm guessing she's around that age. No idea if she had any underlying medical issues, but people acting like this is only killing seniors are just wrong. The shelter's been lifted here for a while, but I haven't changed a thing. No reason to risk it.

The one I'm most aware of took weeks after the first positive case (and multiple patient deaths) to think "hey maybe we ought to segregate people who tested positive from the rest of the population" The best and brightest are not running these facilities. They are poorly financed in most cases. I blame Trump. He gobbles them all up for his staff.

Nobody said "only killing seniors" but the data from the PA Secretary of Health itself shows the VAST majority are elderly, and/or with additional comorbidities. Data also shows that the health care system in PA is far from overburdened. And like I said above, those who choose to stay quarantined that is fine, it's their personal choice and have every right to do so.
May 8, 20205 yr Crazy thing about all this is how so much egg can fall on the faces of BOTH world super powers at the same time. After 3 years of Trump and China swinging their D's at one another over superpower status, both of them get totally and completely embarrassed in the most humiliating way. For China, trying to cement their status as a technological superpower, they have now infected the entire globe for eating f'ing bats. That might be the most embarrassing thing to happen to any country in a long, long time. And then the US, supposedly the greatest country on earth, floundering like a failed, broken state that can't even get its citizens to wear f'ing masks. Worst outbreak in the world despite having a 2 month head start to prepare. The world is angry at China and laughing at the US.

One could easily argue that the reason the PA healthcare system isn't overburdened is because we are following these guidelines. How much burden is on the healthcare system also varies place to place. Areas where there are hotspots - Middletown/Langhorne, Doylestown are those closer to me that I'm aware of - have put a pretty sizable burden on St. Mary's and Doylestown hospital. A neighbor of mine is a nurse at St. Mary's, and while they're managing, they're still seeing a lot of cases coming in from the local areas (and even some from outside the area... NYers in some cases). The whole point of keeping distance and sheltering in place was to prevent the system from being overrun.

I'd say at best in Center City 50% of the people are wearing masks. In the Burbs I've seen almost no one when outside their home. So that isn't happening. 2.) Doubt 3.) LoL yea that one isn't happening either. So things can't open up as people are nasty, and at best half are wearing masks. Excellent.

Tyler state park the two days I’ve been there had almost no one wearing a mask.

Why the F if someone is walking around outside staying 6 feet+ away from others should they wear a mask? Pickup basketball games, yes, those are morons.

The suburbs lived a very different lockdown than the inner city. As it should be mind you, but still needs to be said. In the Suburbs people hung out on the sidewalks and on porches. They'd have a beer in small groups and chat with proper distance. The city was straight up, legit, Marshall Law. Step out of your house without a mask and a visible good excuse and be harassed by law enforcement.
