December 28, 20204 yr Talked to an old friend who got the virus. Former sniper in the US military, now teaches foreign special forces. He’s in, or at least was in, great shape physically. Dude is a monster. Decorated combat vet, has trained hard since he enlisted, etc. He literally can’t walk to the bathroom from his bedroom he’s so weak. Wife had to take him to the hospital. Guys, I know most of you are on board with acting responsibly, wearing a mask, etc, but we are all human and can make mistakes. Please redouble your efforts, for your own sake. This ish is no joke. It’s not "just the flu.” It actually annoys me that it’s described as "flu like symptoms” because despite the media coverage, it downplays the severity of the virus IMO. This thing can take a healthy man in his prime and put him in the hospital.

But for some unknown reason it can be debilitating or even deadly to even really healthy young people. Best of luck to your buddy. We are truly in the home stretch I feel like. To relax now and get this thing now that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, after all the measures taken over the last year, would be such a shame.

Not even close, not enough people will take the vaccine

This thing can take a healthy man in his prime and put him in the hospital. One of friends husbands got it back in July, almost died from it and is still not right. He is consistently running out of breath and has trouble going up stairs. While I would not have called him the pinnacle of health, there was no real medical problems that he had, especially respiratory. This virus really is no joke.
December 28, 20204 yr My daughter's boyfriend is 33-34 and said it's awful. So there's another young healthy person who is in week 3 and still going. He seems to have good days and bad days. I trust I am advising them correctly -if he can go 24 hours symptom free, he should schedule a test and hope that he is then negative and can return to mankind. Daughter tested negative last week and tomorrow will be 10 days since we were together. Since we spent Christmas apart, at least we can do New Years later this week. Stay strong and diligent out there folks!
December 28, 20204 yr My wife's two extremely overweight aunts both got it - they said it was like a cold. They had a few days of mild symptoms and that was it. Makes no sense.
December 28, 20204 yr co-worker of mine contracted it. we're all remote so no risk to me, but his wife is preggers and she got it too. they got it from her mother. my co-worker is REALLY PO'd at his mother in law, because she was working at a daycare that had to shut down because of the virus. the thing is, she never told anybody and his wife was visiting his mom regularly during all this time. which is how they got it. this is the type of irresponsible BS that people do. fortunately, both of them recovered. they seemed to have relatively mild cases.

Yeah. People suck, you really cant trust most people. My wife is pregnant so we're just basically acting as if everyone has it. I cannot wait to get this vaccine so I can at least be inside with other humans again.
December 28, 20204 yr my family cancelled our normal chistmas eve get together at my mom's house because of the rona. but then my mother decided it was okay to go to my niece's house on christmas eve with 10-12 people there, including 5 of them jammed into the same car for the ride.. between christmas & new year's eve, i expect rona to blow up in january. good times.

December 28, 20204 yr Me and my kids are getting tested tomorrow. Scheduling a test is a pain. Because of the increased demand, getting an appointment is difficult. Our exposure was 10 days ago and no one has any symptoms, but we are being responsible and quarantining. A negative test means I can at least go make a beer run.

That's kinda what I was thinking too - I know quite a few people that have had it now in my area (granted, I live in a very rural area) - only one I can think of that had to be hospitalized.
December 28, 20204 yr the wife tested negative...called her dr over the holiday because of cold/bronchitis symptoms...which she also had earlier this year...and he sent her for a test. she works at home so we were 99% sure she didn't have it...but it was still a relief to get the negative test result.

You can tell because people in the same family, group, work, whatever who get "cluster affected" don't end up having the same level of severity.

Strains, viral load, strength of innate immune system, potentially previous exposures to other coronaviruses, preexisting or recent lung disease, luck...
