hiit classes?  do you even lift, bro?

:flex:

Both lol. I used to only lift with minimal cardio as I played sports a lot, but as I get older I find the classes are really beneficial. They are really tough.

His wife bought him a mirror workout apparatus. Seems like her way of screaming "look at your fat ass!...look at it!"

I thought about getting one, but I hate indoor cycling. A lot. I also hate working out at home. The classes I do are a combo of treadmill while wearing a heart monitor and staying in the zones they tell you too, and floor exercises with weights, kettlebells, TRX and stuff. Lots of core and lots of mobility stuff which I need anyway and never used to do as I have pretty bad arthritis through my spine and knees.

What's funny is my wife asked for the Peloton for Christmas 2 years ago. I 100% thought it was a trap -- if I bought it, she'd think I was calling her out of shape (for the record, she is a petite Chinese woman who never gains weight despite eating like a teenager). She stopped using it after a few months (it was...uncomfortable, so she uses the elliptical and rowing machine now), but then I got addicted. Has been a God send during the pandemic.

The important thing is find something you dig and keep doing it.

I got my wife a Peloton for Christmas.  It was an echelon actually, but close enough.

It was a bold and somewhat risky gamble.  Still haven't woken up with my D cut off.

We are complete opposites. I hate working out around other people, and I despise treadmills (get shin splints). I do Power Zone classes on the Peloton, so intensities vary in a scientific way to improve fitness. Pretty interesting stuff.

   she bought it for herself.  she likes all those classes & sheet.

i left it up to the wife since it's kind of her thing...she did a crapload of research & decided on the mirror. the peloton would've looked good next to the elliptical we never use though.  one pro for the mirror is that it takes up less room in my man cave.

Sounds almost like HIIT on a bike. I've always been a runner so the treadmill is my preference for indoor cardio. Rowers are good too but I find sprinting gets my heart rate "in the red" a lot faster and is more appropriate for interval workouts. Bike would probably work similar for me if I didn't dislike it.

My wife does the 3 HIIT classes with me each week early evenings.  Weights I do with a friend that works with me at 5 AM before work. It is all working out nicely as long as the gyms don't close again. Next week I need to change up my diet a bit as I gained 5 lbs when they were closed and I drank way too much beer. Think I am gonna look to drop 10lbs though.

McConnell and the GOP don't give a crap about Americans. His obstruction is totally expected.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday shot down a Democratic bid to answer President Donald Trump's call for increased direct coronavirus payments to Americans, but the measure's ultimate fate in the GOP-controlled chamber is unclear.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., moved to pass the bill by unanimous consent, which meant it would advance if no other senator objected. But McConnell quickly objected to the measure, which would have increased the size of the checks to $2,000 from $600.

So the main difference with HIIT is the length of the intervals. In a HIIT ride, you may push for 30 seconds, recover for 30 seconds, rinse and repeat. The longest efforts in a HIIT class are usually around one minute. In a Power Zone class, you have very long intervals (up to 26 minutes). There are 7 zones -- think of it zone 4 as being something you could hold for 1 hour if you went all out and were fully rested. In a regular Power Zone class, it would look like this: 11 min warmup (some sprints to get going, a build), 12 minute interval (3 min zone 3, 1.5 min zone 4, 1.5 min zone 5, repeat), 3 min recovery, 15 min interval (3 min zone 3, 3 min zone 4, 3 min zone 3, 2 min zone 5, 3 min zone 3, 1 min zone 6), 3 min recovery, same 15 min interval, 1 min cooldown. The Power Zone endurance classes are long zone 3 intervals (8-20 minutes) with short zone 2 breaks (2-4 minutes). So it's prolonged time at intensity.

Sounds cool.  I used to spin a lot in a gym downtown in Stockholm.  The classes were both attended and run by cycling professionals though most of us were just workout hacks.  I stayed in the back and did the best I could just to quietly hang in.  They often simulated a stage in one of the tours (e.g. Tour de France).  On Saturdays the class alternated between a 90 minute session one week and then a 120 session pass the next.  Those absolutely crushed me.  I should probably start it up again or look into a peleton (my wife would like the peleton).  I'd be in the 30 minute "easy" sessions no doubt.

I had never been on a spin bike before buying the Peloton (other than maybe messing around on a stationary bike to warm up) and never been to a class. Started with the 30 minute beginner classes and progressed to the 60s and 90s.

I haven't done it in over 10 years.  It was my winter workout here in cold dark country and we lived downtown back then and the gym was just one block away.  I'm probably better off with a Peleton now and we have a room in the basement that would be perfect.

Finally eligible for free gym membership (silver sneakers) and COVID shows up.  Have bad knees so jogging is out.  A lot of hiking and walking.  Have bench and dumbbells, but it’s so much easier to get into rhythm going to gym.   Before retirement work had gym on site.

We use 3 intervals and they are based on heartrate. Some can be 3 or 4 minutes long at the most. Some at 90 to 100 percent heartrate are 30 to 60 seconds. They also throw in inclines and stuff. Since it's based off your heart rate it automatically kinda self paces, they tell you what zone and how long, you adjust to hit it.

I will read that link later. I like learning about fitness and exercise.

Stuff like kettlebell swings will get the heart really moving and is low impact. Walking is pretty much the perfect exercise for maintaining weight IMO. I take tons of walks year round and do long hikes often in the spring and fall.

We now have the dreaded UK variant. Look for scumbag dems to use this as justification to enact more stringent measures.
