Got an appointment for my mom who is 68 years old and has COPD. She gets her first dose of the pFizer vaccine tomorrow morning!

A couple of weeks ago a bunch of libs in here were lauding New Zealand's strategy as the model for beating the virus. Well, just a couple of weeks after a stringent 3-day lockdown, looks like Auckland is heading for a strict, 7-day lockdown all because of a single confirmed case. Jobs, mental health, freedom, meh. Those things are trivial.

This is what winning looks like.

My dad was finally able to get his through the VA. He had a heart attack in the fall, so he is especially high risk.

What kind of parent would actually do that? oh yeah, liberals.

Terrible parenting. 7 years old is way too young to be allowed on facebook messenger.

New York Times 2.21.21

Apoora Mandavailli

Cool, pretty exciting title.  If it were true.

The author primarily cites two articles that were "published" on medRxIV.  This is a website that preprints manuscripts that have NOT been peer reviewed.  They are NOT published in reputable scientific journals and most will never be.  The way "evidence based literature" (SCIENCE) is produced is difficult, painstaking, with great attention to detail.  Facts are not facts just because the author says so.  Medical science is produced by sending a manuscript to a Medical Journal that has an editorial review board made up of a variety of acknowledged experts.  The manuscript is then reviewed by experts in the field, all data in the manuscript is reviewed, statistics are reviewed by real statisticians.  The review board then elicits feedback from the reviewers.  The information must be accurate, conclusions must be supported by the data and it must add something new to the world of evidence based medicine.

None of the authors of the two papers state "If you have Covid you should get a single dose."

What is his thoughts on the New York Times and their research and fact-checking in general?  Conservatives have long had an issue with the NYT for political reasons, and NYT is no less prone to letting their bias slip in than anyone else.  But there are more and more instances of the NYT presenting non-political stuff as fact when it was not researched enough.  This thing is one such instance.

NYT problems aside, it is a interesting topic, one vs two doses or how long to delay the 2nd dose, similar stories are found in the Wall Street Journal and BBC as well.

Exactly.  And the basement?  Rookie mistake.  Use the laundry room, that way they can work through quarantine.  Terrible parenting.

A darkened broom closet would take less time to disinfect post-quarantine.

Glad to see democrats are taking the pandemic seriously still.

Can't do any work in a darkened broom closet.  Kids need to establish a strong work ethic.  One day you'll understand.

Nothing about them says "democrat" to me.

No - you could always leave.  You just were supposed to then either quarantine for 10 days upon returning, or have a negative test result.

Ah.  For the most part I don't go anywhere these days, so we good.

When do we officially declare victory over covid?  Looks like the reported cases were under 50k for the first time in like a year it seems.  They are steadily declining which is good news of course.  Just curious what the number is that it’ll be deemed "over.”

Not good news at all

"At this level of cases, with variants spreading, we stand to completely lose the hard-earned ground we have gained,” Walensky said. "These variants are a very real threat to our people and our progress.”

Least we know the best way to combat the flu and no it isn't shots. I think I'll probably mask up around flu season next year.

I too think mask wearing is one way to slow spread of this disease and whatever  new one is to come in the future.  Get used to it. In public places at least. I’d like to see this years flu numbers come June.  I bet they are way down.

Let us not forget. There’s a whole lot of dead people-still dying due to this particular illness.  It’s always going to be out there.  At least for the foreseeable future.  Do your part.  Take care of your elders, and don’t think just cause you’re vaccinated absolves you. Not now. Too soon.
