The earth is flat also

At least you answered my next question

I kinda don't mind the mask on the airplane - lots of disgusting people crammed into a small space - now I can worry a little less about their cooties

My wife and I flew in early February 2020 right before covid even was talked about. She's always been a bit of a germaphobe with travel and said she wanted to wear a mask on the plane. I laughed and said "no that's embarrassing plus it's not going to do anything anyway." I've literally never been more wrong about anything in my life lol.

GF has been feeling kinda crappy after the first Pfizer shot, which she got Friday morning. I know that a lot of people got knocked on their ass after the second dose, but I hadn't heard about the first one being rough. Anybody with a similar experience after the first shot? How long was it until side-effects subsided?

idk about pfizer but i just got my 1st moderna shot a little over an hour ago. no side effects so far. doubt i'll have any. i'm really tough.

We get our second shot of moderna Friday.  Before hand we'll probably pick up meals for the rest of the weekend that we just have to heat up because I'm a big baby.

Get those Costco stocks.  There's going to be a big spike before Friday.

Schmoopie and I went in yesterday on our way back from Lowes and Target.  We went in only to get dog treats and acai bowls and only ended up spending $242.07.  We really are showing restraint!!!!

Oh, we didn't end up getting dog treats.

I was in training on Saturday with 3 people that got the Moderns vaccine. All 3 of them had really bad reactions to it, said it hit them like a freight train between 12 and 24 hours after the shot. Fever, chills, lethargy, body aches, etc. Lasted less than a day then they were fine. One woman said her lymph nodes in her neck swelled up like a softball after the first shot and they were still swollen (shed just gotten her 2nd shot that week or a week before).

I got the Pfizer shot (get my second next Friday).  Between hour 12 and 24 I was exhausted.  Slept for a good 12 hours.

CDC releases highly anticipated guidance for people fully vaccinated against Covid-19

Quote
The new CDC guidance says fully vaccinated people can:
  • Visit other vaccinated people indoors without masks or physical distancing
  • Visit indoors with unvaccinated people from a single household without masks or physical distancing, if the unvaccinated people are at low risk for severe disease.
  • Skip quarantine and testing if exposed to someone who has Covid-19 but are asymptomatic, but should monitor for symptoms for 14 days
However, people who are fully vaccinated still need to take precautions in many scenarios. The guidelines say fully vaccinated people must:
  • Wear a mask and keep good physical distance around the unvaccinated who are at increased risk for severe Covid-19, or if the unvaccinated person has a household member who is at higher risk
  • Wear masks and physically distance when visiting unvaccinated people who are from multiple households.

Good news @mr_hunt! soon we can hang out and touch tips!!!

I think this is the right move. Some, like my brother, are questioning the wisdom of it. His reaction was "Why does the cdc even need to come out with this guidance? People are stupid. They'll just stop wearing masks bc they don't read everything. Also, why not just wait until we're further along in the vaccinations to even say anything about this?"

I think he raises valid points, but I also think that there's no perfect solution here and that this is probably the most effective one. I see what he's saying, but at the same time, "pandemic fatigue" is a thing. If we don't start giving some guidance that shows we're making progress and that there's light at the end of the tunnel, we run the risk of people basically feeling like "This is never going to end anyway, so why does it matter?" and then giving up altogether. This gives people some hope and encourages them to get vaccinated to get back to a normal life.

They were talking about this on one of the Sunday news shows this week (I think it was Meet the Press). This lunacy of telling vaccinated people to keep wearing masks, physically distancing, etc. is never going to work. This is a step in the right direction, but we need to appreciate that people are self-interested and naturally selfish. Once they can't get sick anymore, they are going to go back to normal life. They can keep asking people to wear masks in federal buildings, on planes, etc. (where the federal govenrment has jurisdiction), but beyond that, people are ready to be free. The idea that people would keep this up AFTER being vaccinated is ludicrous.

The best thing we can do is keep getting shots in arms and letting people live their lives. The morons who don't get the vaccine can deal with Darwin. Once I am vaccinated, the hooker/coke/Vegas binge will be epic.

So vaccinated people don't need to wear masks when gathering with unvaccinated people from a single household. So if we go visit my mom, she doesn't need to wear her mask but do we still need to wear ours?

That's what it says, but the safest thing to do to protect yourselves in that situation would be for all to wear masks, since the jury is still out regarding whether vaccinated people can spread the virus to unvaccinated people. Early indicators, however, seem to be that they can't, but we need more data to be confident. Masks do offer some protection to the person wearing them, but you are much safer if the people around you are masked since it limits the projection of their aerosols.

Solid news from CDC, sorry Joe Shades.

Also their recommendation that vaccinated people who have been exposed to someone COVID positive to NOT quarantine is pretty telling that they dont think transmission is very likely or significant for vaccinated people.

We will see long term , if you don't put @joeshades73 It does not show up in alerts

nah, you have to keep the mask rules in place for another couple months.  Otherwise the anti maskers will just run around claiming they are vaccinated and who's going to check credentials at every store?
