It reminded me of the chick in Pulp Fiction getting the adrenaline slammed into her chest. I highly doubt they used an 18G needle, probably more like 25G.

That nurse has given a million shots in his/her day and could find a vein on field mouse. Now, you've got me paranoid, lol. Should I have felt it more? It really felt like nothing, and I was expecting more. Did she maybe miss the vein?

They might not be perfect, but they're a powerful weapon that will help us get this under control. He also makes the point that the public health community has screwed up the messaging on this by being paternalistic and focusing on what people can't do, rather than what they can do, giving them options rather than absolutes and framing the matter around mitigation rather than elimination, but they've been selling fear instead of hope, etc. He also notes that some of the shutdowns and some of the mitigation efforts were kind of nonsensical when we think about how the virus spreads. On the last point, I'd contend that we took a lot of extreme measures early on that proved to be excessive or foolish simply because we really didn't know much about this virus at the time, but maybe we should be revising them. Either way, there's good perspective in here and advice to be well-taken by the doom-and-gloomers. Good video!

Did she maybe miss the vein? Vaccines don't go into your vein, they go into the muscle tissue. Which is easier to do but an inexperienced nurse could still irritate a nerve, inject it too slowly, go in at a weird angle, go in at a thinner muscle etc all of which will cause more pain. But overall unless she straight up missed your arm entirely you got the vaccine no worries. Sounds like you got a good one regardless of age. Just whatever you do don't be that person who insists the doctor give the shot or draw the blood. Most of us are much worse at it than the nurses/phlebotomists who do it all the time (unless maybe it's part of your specialty eg neonatologists or vascular surgeons). Experience trumps degree.

March 9, 20214 yr There is more good medical info on this page about COVID and vaccines in one page, than Trump gave out in 4 years.

So he's good I tend to pass out when my veins are punctured for blood draws. When I got put under for getting my wisdom teeth out I passed out from the iv poke, woke up and thought I was done. Nope. Then they gave me the good crap.

I'm lucky that needles/IV's don't bother me. I had an angiogram a couple of years ago and it just so happened to be the day that they were having nursing students start IV's. It took a few attempts for them to get it going on me, but I honestly didn't mind. They gotta learn sometime. 🤷♂️ The poor bastid beside me was NOT taking it well.

I watch them put the needle into my vein like a real man.
March 10, 20214 yr Biden’s signature will not be on the stimulus checks. Shows how much less capable he is than Trump...

March 10, 20214 yr I don't have an issue watching blood draws on my own arm, but I did get light headed to the point where I had to sit down when I watched the anesthesiologist struggle to place an epidural on my wife. He poked her so many times trying to hit the spinal canal that it looked like a 10x10 grid of puncture wounds with blood dripping out of each one, all while she was writhing in pain the whole time.

After a surgery of mine, they had to find a new spot for my IV, it took them the first half of a preseason Eagles game for them to find it. It was a lot of poking into my arm and using a machine to help to find a good spot. It was unpleasant. I did faint after giving blood once (I had to give blood in case I needed it after my surgery) but I was only like 14 at the time. I haven’t given blood since.
March 10, 20214 yr No shame in getting woozy with shots, but just pointing out that you'd all be garbage at childbirth.
March 10, 20214 yr Needles have never bothered me. O remember in high school I split my head open and had to get a line of stitches. They shot it with novocaine or whatever so it didn't hurt when they were sticking it up, but there just enough sensation left that I could feel the thread pulling through and the skin pulling tight as they stitched me up. People always thought it was weird that I described it as a neat feeling. At one point I thought the nurse asked me if needed a popsicle to keep from passing out and I told her no o was fine before I realized she was talking to my BIL who had taken me to the ER and was in the room. He was about to pass out just from watching it.

Cut the cord on #1. #2 let the doc handle. They also remove all visitors when they do the epidural. Good move because that would've put me out.
