May 14, 20214 yr Already feeling the repercussions of this CDC stupidity. Principal apparently has received numerous questions about masks in the last day. He reiterated that PDE guidelines remain in place, but this is going to be a mess. Kids and parents will now claim they don't have to wear masks in school now, and will now cite the CDC after hating on them for over a year.

It's too soon.

That is, those who are in-between doses and those who have yet to receive a dose, until two weeks after the final dose. But yeah, lots of people are ready to ditch the mask, vaccinated or no. I agree, I think it's too soon. Too much virus still being transmitted, too many people still not vaccinated, especially kids. Essentially CDC is saying it does not matter anymore.

May 14, 20214 yr I don't have a problem with the CDC guidance. It's reflecting what we've known for several weeks now, that wearing a mask after being fully vaccinated is only providing negligible protection in the vast majority of cases. Now whether states use this guidance to repeal mask mandates is a different story. That should be based on regional or state wide vaccination and daily case rates. Naturally you can't ask a place of business to check vaccination cards for anyone not wearing a mask, so it makes sense to set a threshold and then repeal once it's been reacted. Trying to discern the vaccinated from unvaccinated at the door is pointless. Concerts and other large events need to be handled differently though.

Right, this DOES follow the science, but it doesn't account for that fact that many Americans are selfish a-holes. We still have a lot of unvaccinated people who are vulnerable.

They should have been vaccinated months ago if they have a qualified condition.

Mostly 3 days out of commission and loss of taste and smell in some cases. I'd be more concerned if the ones with comorbidities didn't have the opportunity to get vaccinated. Kids will be fine. It doesn't seem to phase them. My 13 year old nephew had it and was fine after a day or two.

Anyone, even kids, can get very sick and die from this. Vulnerable=unprotected. We have variants circulating that are much more contagious and virulent. Anyone who is not fully vaccinated is at a much greater risk of contracting serious illness, and some of those younger populations that do have underlying conditions are still only now able to sign up. It's only fair to make sure everyone has had that chance. And, at the end of the day, some people have conditions that mean they can't get vaccinated, so we need to get to herd immunity for these people to resume some semblance of a normal life.
May 14, 20214 yr There are plenty of kids with complicating medical conditions, where contracting COVID could be especially risky, who are unable to be vaccinated.

My daughter had an even slighter fever one day. As soon as they are done they’re getting vaccinated. Side note: last night my blind wife brushed her teeth with my daughter’s toothbrush by mistake. She (my wife) is fully vaccinated, so this will be a good test to see how effective the Pfizer vaccine is.

Lots of reports coming in of breakthrough infections, those who are fully vaccinated are now testing positive for coronavirus. But virtually all have mild or no symptoms. For the fully vaccinated, CDC is only recommending those who have symptoms to be tested.
May 14, 20214 yr Well this thread was awesome for two days - I see we're back to the usual suspects whining about masks and their sore vaginas again YOU WANT BEEF?
May 14, 20214 yr Do the fully vaccinated still have to quarantine after being exposed? Bo hope your wife does ok. I tried not to laugh 😷

This may provide incentive for them to actually get vaccinated. I fully support the right of private businesses (airlines, restaurants, etc.) to demand proof of vaccination. 2. Those who aren't vaccinated because they can't be (e.g., kids) can protect themselves with masks. The data shows us that vaccinated people who get COVID don't get sick enough to spread it. 3. Darwin wins again.
