Isn't there a large part of the African American community not wanting the vaccine also?

How in the hell are some states still < 40% vaccinated with ONE dose? Wtf?

Remember when I said all politics is identity politics and right wingers were all "nuh uhhhhhh its only lefties"?  Trump made this a political issue and now downplaying the dangers of covid and up-playing the dangers of the vaccine is hard wired into their personal identity. I see with with most of my Tumpbot family members.

Have you gotten yours? has any hardcore CVON Trumpbot gotten it?

Yes.  Although, tbf, the U.S. government doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to being honest with black people.  Forced sterilization comes to mind…

That's a great question!

Not buying it for a second.  The Tuskeegee Experiments weren't a well publicized, worldwide vaccination that everyone of every race was administered.  It's apples to oranges. That's an excuse liberals give as to why black people aren't getting it so that they don't have to criticize them like they criticize the Trump supporting morons that aren't getting it.  The real reason is that, much like white people and people of every other race, there are plenty of stupid black people as well.   Being stupid is the one and only reason not to get the vaccine (unless you're in the very rare subset of people that can't get it for medical reasons).

Yeah, but…

That’s like saying some black people don’t trust police because they break a lot of laws.  It’s a little more complex than that.

This. It's not like the ~200,000 Jewish people living in Germany are refusing the vaccine. Using history as a reason to justify ignorance in the present is ridiculous.

No, it's not.  It's a life saving vaccine and we're in the middle of a pandemic.  You either get it or you're an idiot.  I don't care what happened to someone's grandfather.  It's irrelevant to the topic.

Yeah, I don't give a F whether you want to blame a mistrust of authorities, or outright ignorance, or some other reason, but either way it's a major problem from a public health standpoint and over a year later, I'm no longer willing to be sympathetic. We live in an era where access to information has never been easier and I again ask where do we draw the line on when to listen to doctors? If a doctor says your blood pressure is too high, do we make excuses to not trust them because it's all a ploy by big pharma to take your money? What about when you have an ulcer and are told to go easy on spicy food? Is Bill Gates involved in that scheme too? I mean, might as well just take a page outta Trump's book and start staring at solar eclipses while we're at it. Why? Because F doctors, that's why.

I have ran into many of doctors that have great memories and know the steps of A, B, C, but get lost when they realize you understand human anatomy and question them on things. Hell, I won't see a doctor again if they are obese or sloppy fat.

It's hard to find a good doctor, that actually knows his or her stuff beyond a book taught them.

If you don’t understand why black people in this country have a general mistrust of the U.S. government, I don’t know what to tell you.  Just throwing them a bone with a new holiday doesn’t move the needle much imho.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say all doctors are infallible, and as I've said before, you should absolutely be your own advocate and take an active interest in your own health by being as informed as possible. Seek out a second or third opinion if you're unsure about the advice your primary doctor is giving you.

And if someone doesn't know where to start before even seeing a doctor, there are accredited national organizations that can provide tons of good, unbiased info. Spend 15 min each day looking into an issue so you have at least a general understanding of it.

Anecdotal, but I know plenty of guys that love cars and go to great lengths to take such good care of them. Same for some guys that just bought new houses and are always trying to stay on top of things and be proactive. Yet these same guys eat and drink to excess, barely exercise, and otherwise lead incredibly unhealthy lifestyles. The irony of it all is that you can always buy a new car or a new house if either one accumulates damage over time. But you can't buy a new body. You only get one to F up as you go through your life, so it boggles my mind why some people take such a passive role in their own health and basically thumb their nose at the medical community whose role is to help them improve or maintain it. This past year has really ratcheted up those sentiments a couple notches, and it's just insane.

I understand some of the reasons why, but I'm saying I no longer care. You can't excuse ignorance forever. If they think the vaccine makes you magnetic, or is a big pharma get rich quick scheme, or is designed to make you infertile, or some other such nonsense, then like I said, why stop there? Why let the government dictate your life in so many other ways? Go forth and lick doorknobs, forgo seatbelts, stick needles in electrical outlets, etc.

Black people aren't a homogenous block. Some are smart, some are stupid.  Some mistrust the government, some don't give it a second thought.  Some can separate a historical atrocity from a worldwide pandemic.  There's some overlap here too.  For instance the Venn diagram of those that can't separate a historical atrocity from a worldwide pandemic and the one's that are stupid is a perfect circle.

And to be clear, my above statements apply to all races, political affiliations, genders, socioeconomic status, etc. I don't care if you're white or black, republican or democrat, male or female, rich or Kz. If you can use the internet, you have the means to make informed decisions.

You know a lot of uneducated people can’t differentiate real news from fake news, right?

Anti vaxxers will use any excuse they can. I hope they suffer

Of course. You can't fix stupid. But you sure can laugh at them.

And 15 months into a pandemic, which happens to be the single most transformative event of all our lives, not getting a vaccine can only be characterized as being stupid/ignorant. I was willing to let the "I don't know if it's safe" excuse slide for a few months, but I just can't tolerate it anymore. How long do we need to wait before we tell them "it's F'ing safe already, go make the obvious choice to save your life and those of your friends and family" ?
