July 20, 20214 yr COVID cases up in all 50 states, with infections rising 70 percent. Yet, I am weird for wearing a mask. Ok.

Back in Jan-Feb when cases were still really high, I stated to see a decrease in the % positive. Which was the indication that the numbers were flowing in the right direction. Especially since the amount of tests that were being done each day were through the roof. Tests and %positive has spiked recently. But there seems to be some leveling out in recent days. Hopefully. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/usa Grow up and get your GD vaccine! Um, excuse me? This is America. You can't tell me what to do.
July 20, 20214 yr so if the speculation about the Pfizer vaccine for older (over-50) individuals being less effective against delta proves accurate, what does that mean for Moderna? how similar, or dissimilar are they? I ask because my parents got the Moderna. They're in their late 60s.

I ask because my parents got the Moderna. They're in their late 60s. So far, we haven't seen any data that indicates they wouldn't have similar efficacy. Same vaccine type, same modified spike protein code, same lipid delivery mechanism, only difference I know of is dosage. Pfizer is 30ug vs 100ug for Moderna, though that might mislead some to thinking it scales up linearly with an immune response when it doesn't. There's definitely a point of diminishing returns when it comes to mounting an immune response. And these types of vaccines don't have the same pharmacokinetics as more common drugs. They aren't metabolized in the same way as say an opiod would be. That's why we can give the same vaccine dose to a 400lb man as we would to a 90lb teenage girl.

From my understanding they're both very similar with very similar protection numbers. I wouldn't worry too much, the efficacy even against Delta is still very high. Like I said before, that 95% number keeps getting thrown around so when people see something lower they get worried. 40% efficacy and above is very good for a vaccine.

July 20, 20214 yr For any parents that aren't suffering from lifelong brain damage, ignore the troll who can barely sustain employment at KMart. Death isn't the only metric when it comes to kids being affected by covid. There are many other complications caused by even seemingly mild cases of covid in kids, like MIS-C, myocarditis, pulmonary fibrosis, etc. We already know the virus readily crosses the blood brain barrier and anosmia or long-covid is associated with shrinkage of brain tissue based on imaging from a UK study. There's still a lot we have left to learn about how this disease impacts our bodies. All I know is that I don't want to live with the regret of falling to protect my kids because I underestimated the risks based on incomplete data.

Lots of vaccinated people getting sick from the delta variant BUT only mildly so. Hospitalizations and deaths have not been rising in any significant manner.

Ban water and cars as well Over the course of the pandemic, 49,000 Americans under the age of 18 have died of all causes, according to the CDC. Only 331 of those deaths have been from COVID — less than half as many as have died of pneumonia. In 2019, more than 2,000 American kids and teenagers died in car crashes; each year, according to some estimates, about a thousand die from drowning.

Wife fully vaccinated as well (almost wrote "fully jabbed" ) and daughter has her first scheduled next week. Thanks for asking. We started slow over here but are about to zoom past you guys. Of course we don't have a large group of anti-vaxxer numbnuts.

July 20, 20214 yr Just now, DrPhilly said: Assuming you got yours some months back, correct? Yeah, the end of March or some crap. My younger daughter just turned 12, but we haven’t had a chance to get her vaccinated yet. Right now she’s at summer camp in PA.

Sweden was at 58% one jab and 37% full. US curve is totally flat. Sweden is steep. We will be past you on the full in a month and never look back. If you can trust those stats of course. These were from "ourworldindata" from a couple days back.
