**Official Philadelphia 76ers Thread 2022/2023 Regular Season*

Featured Replies

There is no one on this team playing well right now. They got a random, seldom seen good night from Shake Milton and thats the only reason they were even close in the game.

Everyone is in a slump. Maybe some guys are tired, but reinforcements have been back for a few games now. Other guys have been the ones missing time and shouldnt be tired.

Is it fatigue or is it people not buying what Doc and Morey are selling right now?

The rah rah we can do this without Ben (or someone to replace him) stuff only worked so long. Now theyre undermanned, and purposely going in to games with less talent than they are capable of having. Wonder if the players are getting fed up with it.

Oh stop.  He’s the least of your worries.  I know you have had to wait to criticize him.  Harris Embiid and Green combined for 27 points.  That’s where we lost the game.

Show me where I made excuses?

You know who else has been bad (save for one game) since Embiid returned?

they don't have anyone who can create...still.

I think two moves need to be made at this point. Simmons is the obvious. Get the best value you can and be done with the whole thing.

His contract makes it a challenge, but I think you need to look at trading Harris too. He has his games where he’ll put up a bunch of points, but he’s too much of an iso player and stops ball movement. When he’s not hot shooting, which is too frequent lately, he’s a disruption to the offense.

Quit making excuses

We should have traded Mattisse this off season while his value was high.  He is Ben Simmons on offense except he actually tries, but just sucks at shooting.

tisse is shooting 30% from three...which is pretty bad. he could probably get by with that if he had any sort of handles or ability to drive...but he doesn't.

His only job on offense is to sit in the corner and make 3's at the league average percentage.  Without that, he is useless.  He will be unplayable in the playoffs except spot minutes on defense if we are up by like 12-15+.

agreed. defenses will just cheat off of him like boston did last night. one-way players get destroyed in the playoffs. i'm all for trading just about anyone at this point.

as we were watching the game, i told my kid that something would come out either last night or this morning saying that embiid is still recovering from covid & that's why he's been so turrible.  and right on cue....

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/32767536/philadelphia-76ers-joel-embiid-says-working-way-back-covid-19-amid-shooting-woes

BOSTON -- Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid said "it's going to take awhile" for him to fully round back into form after an extended bout with COVID-19.

Embiid had his second straight rough shooting performance in Wednesday's 88-87 loss to the Boston Celtics.

"I would never use it as an excuse but obviously I think it's going to take me awhile to get back, especially legs and cardio and all that stuff," Embiid said after going 3-for-17 against Boston, making him a combined 7-for-33 across Philadelphia's past two games. "But every single day I got to keep working hard, and keep getting better."

This year is a wash.  There is no rush to make any moves.  Even a major move, unless we get extremely luck, will not make us contenders this year.  The goal should be to get Maxey as much time and experience with Embiid as possible and then work on trading Ben and Tobi between now and this upcoming off-season.  It sucks we lose another year of Joel's prime but there really is no other choice.

I agree and disagree with him.  It was obvious watching him the last two games, his energy level, even from the start of the games, was low.  His first game back, when he went to double OT, he looked a lot more energized.  It is possible that the 46 minute game after being out that long with COVID really drained him.  His recovery is not where it needs to be yet.  Seth suffered from the same problem last year.  However, him missing his shots is not because of that.  If he was short on everything, I could see it.  He is just off and rusty, combined with low energy and lingering COVID affects.  I would not be surprised if this lingers for another month or so.  He looked super lean last night night and I am sure it isn't because he is working out really hard.  He looks like he lost weight/some muscle from COVID.

i agree that this year is a wash. if getting maxey minutes is a priority, i'd love for them to somehow move tobi asap...making maxey more of a go-to guy on offense along with embiid. easier said than done though.

"I would never use it as an excuse" right as he proceeds to use it as an excuse

Yeah I think Morey has his work cut out for him.

Even before covid this was a yearly problem with Embiid. It's going to be the same sheet every year with him till he is no longer playing in the NBA.

gotta somehow get an alpha scorer so jo can have his off nights offensively where he kinda loafs on offense while focusing on defense & rebounding.

Players coming back from Covid are generally bad in all sports. I guess Aaron Rodgers is the exception because he went to see Tor Eckman or something, but it's mostly held true. Harris last year was not a star but a reliable 20 and 10 guy. My issue with him is he isn't aggressive enough. Right now none of them are. Maxey needs desperately to stop hesitating. He has passed up good looks and drives to the hoop over the last few games.

I still think we need to trade Simmons for the best aggressive perimeter scorer we can and let the team gel. I still think that guy is Russell.

I might be more interested in CJ based on health, contract and productivity.  It would also cost less to acquire him.

Roco is cooked but I would do this deal to swap CJ and Tobi.
